Designed to carry loads while backcountry snowboarding, The North Face Chugach 35 Board backpack combines an ultra-secure Fly Trap board attachment system with over 2,150 cubic inches of storage capacity and plenty of alpine-oriented ascent features. Whether you're hoofing it out to your favorite powder chute or hiking up to make runs on a remote summer snowfield, this pack is everything you need for a 365-day season. Outside you'll find dual tool tubes, utility pockets for wands, bottles and poles, and a front shovel pocket. Inside you'll find a lined goggle pocket, a hydration system compartment and plenty of space for an extra shell, insulating jacket and a hearty lunch. This is a great pack with a good design on both the shoulder/hip/sternnum strap layout and on the board holder. It has a great rigging system that allows for different sized items to be securely strapped down. This is everything from the width of a board down to the circumference of a medium sized tent without effecting the balance of the pack. Fits MSR Evo Ascents well on the way down. Shovel pocket holds a good sized shovel and two internal sleeves (in addition to the roomy hydro sleeve) can hold long items (collapsed avalanche/tent poles, etc) in place and out of the way. Goggle pocket is roomy. Tool loops on back have buckles (excellent feature) to hold ice axes/etc in place and the hip belt loops are perfect for temporary storage. I use this primarily for mountaineering day trips. The downsides: hydration sleeve has no loop for tying the bladder up high and it drifts down, pulling the tube with it. The loops on the shoulder straps are just barely large enough to pass through a camelback mouthpiece. Some pocket/insert system for small items would be nice to keep those items up top since side access, although possible, is less than optimal.

I got this backpack for snowboarding and now use it for every type of day trip, climbing, hiking, even just travelling. My favorite feature is that you can use it in any weather without things getting wet. I also love the pockets and that the zippers go all the way down the sides so you can get to the very bottom of the pack easily. Pretty comfortable and lightweight for the size. Also North Face equipment (everything- seals, hardware and zippers,etc.) lasts forever!!!!
