Unusual story here. I ordered these boots from ALTREC and received them on 12/16/08. I wanted to take my husky for a walk after work that night, but hesitated to wear my new boots without doing my usual wear-them-around-the-house-first break-in. Well, 1/2 mile from the truck I broke my ankle wearing my TEVA low cut hiking shoes (not much snow, but spots of ice and crusty snow). SO, ten weeks later I first got to wear my Chilkats in 2009. Right out of the box, they were very comfortable. I ordered 1/2 half size up and this is a must. I wear Thorlo hiker socks and, although I did not wear the boots in really cold VT weather this year, I can tell that this combination would provide all the warmth needed for -0 F. temps. whether on short hikes, snow shoeing, or shoveling the driveway. I did not buy these for winter back-country camping. My winter hikes are all less than 10 miles and these fit the bill. I have forded streams almost to the top of the boot and stayed completely dry. Well made, comfortable even with a messed-up ankle, good traction, and they look cool! Rememeber to go 1/2 size up and wear them a little tight the first time because the will form to your foot with use. Have fun. Jimmy

Great set of boots that I used around 30 times this winter. Light to Medium weight with a nicely cushioned sole that made walking on snow covered hard surfaces long distances a better experience while keeping my feet warm and dry. Good snug fit like any sneakers and just as comfortable to wear all day. Highly recommended and a decent price too.

Got these boots for a winter in VT. These boots are very waterproof and well-insulated: perfect for winter hiking or just walking around in wintry slush. The boots are snug and a little narrow, which is good for me, but maybe not those with wider feet.

I recently became "addicted" to snowshoeing and purchased the Chilkats boots for that specific purpose. I could not have done better..... I put 90 miles on the snowshoes/boots the first winter I had them. I hiked both the plains(ND)and the mountains(Mt). I have had dry and comfortable feet the entire distance. I would strongly recommend these boots for anybody interested in winter hiking and/or winter sports. They are durable, comfortable, and well-priced.

The Chilkats arrived just in time for a few late snowy/rainy/slushy storms to 'visit.' Each time I went out with the dog (and there were many of those), my feet (ordinarily cold and wet in these situations) were warm and dry and comfortable. No over-heating and surprisingly easy on the feet. And, regardless of the length of these walks, the Chilkats were trouble and leak-free. I'm glad I got them.

I purchased the Chilkats Snow Boot for an upcoming trip/hike to Tibet and have been "breaking them" in during preparatory hikes. They were very comfortable after the first couple of miles. Simply put, they are great hiking boots! I will get to test the effectiveness of the insulation in a few months.

Pretty solid boot. I needed something warm and waterproof for doing field research in the winter. Took a little while to break in but always kept me warm and dry. Wore them on some mountain hikes in late winter and was satisfied with their grip and durability. The only problems I've had were trouble keeping them laced up tightly and they sometimes hurt the front of my ankles a bit. Overall I'm happy with them for the price I paid. Wouldn't buy them full price though.

The boots are really nice, however ther are very narrow. My feet was hurting after a couple of hours of using them. I recommend to buy 1 number bigger than your own.

I purchased these boots to replace a pair of Sorels that had seen their last hike. I have only worn the boots a few times so far due to a mild winter, but so far, they have met all my expectations. They have a nice snug fit around your entire foot, much different than my Sorels that I had previously owned, which seemed to get packed out very quickly. This was a great buy.

There's nothing wrong with these snow boots. I jump at Altrec's sale on them after my brother bought a pair and just loved them. However every TNF shoes I've purchased or tried on seem to fit just a bit too narrow.
The Chilkats, they were just a bit too narrow. But the sale price was excellent and with a bit of wearing to stretch, well...
But with Altrec's great return policy, I know I can be satisfied with any purchase I make.
So, try out a pair of any TNF shoes at your local shoe store, and then decide if Altrec can supply with quality North Face gear.
