The North Face Men's Chinook Convertible Parka

Similar in design to other parkas from The North Face, this Men's Chinook Convertible Parka doesn't have insulation so you can choose your layers according to the conditions outside. It offers plenty of pockets for storage and a practical detachable hood that's great for situations when you're wearing a helmet on a snowmobile. Inside the Chinook Convertible Parka you'll find two water bottle pockets, a zippered security pocket and an electronics compartment for your radio, cellular phone and MP3 player. The convertible drop hem also drops down for extra coverage when you need it--like when the snow turns to sticky sleet. If you're looking for other parkas with similar features and a detachable hood, check out The North Face McMurdo Parka.

  • Waterproof and breathable 100% nylon oxford HyVent™ shell fabric

Big, Bountiful, Warm and Versatile.
This is a really great substantial coat, though it is a size too large for me. It has pockets everywhere and the quality in construction is evident throughout. The coat is warm and protects well against the wind, plus it's waterproof too so I've walked in the rain with it. It has the ability to "let down" the lower part of the coat via snaps which allows for a full length coat should you need it. The coat is not like your average down jacket...it is quite heavy as you will read in the other reviews. However, for severe weather, this is one fine coat.

All Business
This coat is enormous, but that was why I bought it. The jacket is totally warm, and really does have a lot of pockets and places to hold whatever you might need. I will never have to worry about another severe weather day again with this monstrocity :-)

This parka is worth spending all the money you have. It comes with versatile pockets and awesome designs. Hood is detachable, and you can even extend down to your knees. 5 stars plus alpha. I recommend.

would be hot in winter!!!
everybody is right. this jacket is large fit, very warm and not so stylish. the lining is NOT removable. so it would only work in cold days. the upper half of the lining is fur-like, lower half is stuffed feathers. and it's waterproof.

Great winter coat for Chicago
I bought this coat in February 2007. I walk to the train in the Chicago area about 1.5 miles. This coat keeps me warm. People on the train will comment how nice the coat is and question whether it keeps me warm--it does. That said, I would not use this coat if I had to drive in a car or just walk short distances--too bulky. But for my needs, it is perfect. North Face quality and construction is top notch.

SOLIDLY BUILT-VERY WARM
I BOUGHT AN XL. I AM 6'4" WITH A 34" WAIST (ABOUT 230#). THE SHOULDERS AND ARMS FIT WELL BUT THE WAIST IS PRETTY BIG. I WISH IT HAD A DRAWSTRING INSIDE TO HUG IT TIGHTER TO THE BODY SO AIR WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO BLOW UP INSIDE THE COAT. OTHER THAN THAT IT'S A VERY NICE COAT, CUT LARGE AND MADE FOR BAD WEATHER. TOO LARGE TO BE COMFORTABLE WEARING AROUND TOWN RUNNING ERRANDS (ABOUT 6 1/2#) BUT VERY NICE IF YOUR OUTSIDE DEPENDING ON YOUR COAT TO KEEP YOU COMFORTABLE. NICE AND RUGGED.

Great quality jacket
The jacket is definitely high quality and putting it on makes me feel like I'm preparing for an Arctic expedition. It has about 10 pockets (I stopped counting) with zippers and cords every which way. I think it runs narrower in girth than it does in length. I’m 235lbs, 6ft with a 46 chest and large would probably have been too tight with any type of layering but I feel like I’m wearing a dress because its past mid-thigh.. Also, the jacket is pretty heavy and bulky so it may be awkward for small cars and public transportation commuters - but at least you’ll be warm.

So Warm!
This coat is incredibly warm, has tons of pockets and looks great. It runs big, so I had to return it for a smaller size.

great coat for the winter
I have bought other coats in the past, and this is by far the warmest. It has so many pockets that I don't know what to put in them. This coat is more versatile that the picture shows. It is worth the money I spent.

Nice, warm, large fit
This coat is long and warm. It fits awesome and it has that large fit that's so popular these days. If you're looking for a jacket that fits larger guys, this is the one. I have never been cold and can ware it everywhere. Love it. I would recommend it to anyone.
