Great wet shorts!
December 02, 2011

I purchased 3 pairs because these shorts are so versatile and dry quickly. I can go run and work out, then go swimming right away. The belt works great, and the pockets are very helpful. There is even a tie inside. The fabric is super soft and I am wearing one of the pairs as I write this. It does not get much better than this for wet shorts!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value, dries quickly

Just what I wanted
October 31, 2011

I was looking for a pair of shorts that I can wear to work out at the gym and when I am finished I could just jump in the pool and do a few laps. These were exactly what I was looking for. They dry quickly, hold their shape and go from gym to pool flawlessly. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that they run slightly big and I wish it had a zipper on the back pocket and not velcro. I am a big guy, 6'2" and 250lbs with a 40 inch pant. I ordered the XL. There is plenty of belt when dry but I had to cinch them up when I dove into the pool and it left a lot of belt in the pool. If you are between sizes, I might opt for the smaller size.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value
Cons: belt could be shorter, pocket could zip rather than velcro

Looking for some comfortable Crossfit shorts...
October 06, 2011

Just got them - but I love them already. I was just looking for a good, light-weight short for running or crossfit. I'm not sure how they'll hold up, but they seem like they're perfect for a good WOD.

Great Trunks
September 03, 2011

Losing weight and needed a smaller pair of trunks. Saw these in the outlet. Bought. Received. Excited. Material texture great. Integrated belt perfect and even a draw string to get to the best fit. Length was how I like it. Very comfortable when I tried these on. I'll enjoy the river next trip without worries.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value, perfect fit

The best...
August 24, 2011

This summer I wore Class V Trunk Shorts backpacking 86 miles in NM--always comfortable in rain, 95 plus heat, cold nights. 3 weeks later: I wore Class V Trunk Shorts everyday for a week in Hawaii--snorkling, body surfing, etc. Again, extremly comfortable. These 2 environs are about as far apart as you can get and yet these shorts were awesome. Highly recommended

Great Shorts at a great value
August 24, 2011

Another great product courtesy of North Face by way of Altrec. These shorts wear great, wash even better and feel as if you are wearing nothing at all. At the current price they are a great value and would be perfect for any high impact / low impact activity.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value

Outstanding Trunks
August 18, 2011

These shorts are among the best trunks I own (comparing to similar products from Patagonia and Columbia). Having only worn them for two weekends, the material feels incredibly durable and should hold up to years of abuse. The mesh lining is comfortable, no pinching or rubbing. To my eyes (or maybe just my computer monitor), the website portrays the colors more vividly than they actually are... I ordered three pairs (all in earth-tones), but wouldn't shy away from the brighter colors on a second go-round. Bottom line, if you're going for a high quality, comfortable pair of shorts... you can't go wrong with the Men's Class V Trunk Shorts.

Great river or swim shorts
August 16, 2011

Nice shorts, love the way they feel. I've used them kayaking and they dry quickly. They fit a little large; I ordered medium and exchanged them for a small. I'm about 31" waist, and the size range for small is 28"-30", and the size range for medium is 32"-34" so I fall right in the middle. The small is a much better fit for me. They make good swim trunks too.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
Cons: fit large
Comfort: 5 / 5
Durability: 5 / 5
Quality: 5 / 5

Great Shorts
July 06, 2011

Was looking for some functional and comfortable boat shorts...and these are perfect for me. I'm 5' 8"/average build, and struggle sometimes with shorts being 1" or 2" too long. The 8" inseam on these is perfect for me. I now own 3 pairs. Durable, lightweight, quick drying. Love 'em.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

Columbia Trunks
December 31, 2010

These Columbia trunks are very comfortable, and can be used for many different activities, I use them while swimming, biking, running, and hiking. Very good buy for you buck!

best all around shorts
August 27, 2010

I've had a pair of those in the Army. I've been using another 2 pairs for 2 years for training, running, biking, hiking, swimming.

chris

best shorts ever
July 27, 2010

The north face class v cargo is the most versatile all around shorts out there. Great for working out at the gym right to a dip in the pool. I have like 10 pairs of these shorts and I love them.

JD Schlandt

Great garment to include in your hiking attire
June 22, 2010

I love how the shorts dry so quickly. I use them extensively for summer hiking as they are great for taking a quick dip in the mountain streams. Along with freedom of movement in the legs, the mesh lining is a plus. I have found no better pair of shorts

GCC

Great Shorts
June 16, 2010

These shorts are light, arid and provide great freedom of movement. The only shorts I wear for running and working out.

kevin

Excellent all-around short
May 27, 2010

I spend the summer in these shorts. They are light, quick drying and stand up to rugged outdoor activities. Make an excellent all purpose water short. Work great for paddling and swimming.

May 19, 2010

These are great!! I wear them in the pool and out. Cool, comfortable

great warm weather shorts
May 14, 2010

Comfortable & light. Has a zippered rear pocket. Mesh liner is smooth. Only drawback is all pockets are mesh, not solid nylon.

Bob Beggan

These purchases make 7 pairs I now own
April 01, 2010

These shorts/swim trunks are going to be my daily attire when I retire on my sailboat next year. They are very comfortable, dry rapidly and easy to wear with T shirts/golf shirts. Too bad they have eliminated a few of their colors. A very well made pair of shorts that look and fit great!

Eric

Good, versatile shorts
March 05, 2010

These are good, lightweight durable shorts that are versatile enough to use for hiking, swimming or just walking around town. Price is reasonable. The mesh liner is not a soft as some other brands but still comfortable enough.

DSTRONG

perfect
January 14, 2010

loving them. also like the new hidden pocket. "long" is a great length, but still above the knee and classy. also love the zip on the back pocket. my biggest complaint is i wish the belt was shorter! i'm prob gonna do some modification of it at home

Ivan Van Dooren

Very Happy
August 30, 2009

I received my shorts on time and they were exactly as ordered. Love the shorts! Well made and comfortable. I would recommend getting the next size larger if you fall in the upper area of the size range. I will certainly be buying from Altrec again.

Jack Miller

Great shorts
July 15, 2009

I have been wearing these shorts for years and just got more. Great product.

NanSea

Just Right!
June 24, 2009

I wanted a good pair of nylon shorts for hiking and swimming. This is the best I have found in years! The material is rugged, and the pockets secure. The belt works fine, too. Was disappointed in the limited colors in my size (just black). But, at least they won't show spots!

Jon-Paul Maddaloni

These shorts are a classic - fit is perfect and long wear
May 13, 2009

The North Face Men's Belted Class V Trunk is a great pair of shorts. You can wear as casual, swim, exercise, ect.. They look great and have a long wear life. I just purchased 2 pair to replace similar shorts from North Face that I have had for over 10 yrs. The size is spot on from size chart and the color was spot on as well for both the red and blue pair. Do yourself a favor and pick up a pair today. Altrec - Thanks for the best deal on the web.

Ashwin

Perfect
November 04, 2008

I wish I could find this somewhere locally. These are the most versatile pair of shorts ever. The material is rough and the rear zipper offers me the peace of mind about my wallet that I need when I am biking. The front pocket's subpocket houses my car keys perfectly! I just can't seem to find this in a brick and mortar shop.

jason

nice shorts
September 07, 2008

i requested the cool blue shorts, although the picture on this site is misleading. the picture shows an blueish grey short, when in fact they are very light blue. it turns out the color is fine so i did decide to keep them. the material is nice and the shorts are very comfortable. good for lake and river swimming.

Indraneel Majumdar

great for hanging out
August 22, 2008

Walking, hiking. A tad on the heavier side, I prefer lighter roomier shorts for swimming/sprinting/running. Has a velcro top pocket inside the right pocket, great for keys and such. I like this inspite of the belt getting in the way, but then with the belt on, no one can pull your pants off!

Barry Goldblatt

The best--better than Patagonia
August 16, 2008

These are the best for everything--running, leisure, swimming, etc.

Al Stebbins

Great All Around Shorts
July 19, 2008

If you really are an outdoor person these shorts are light, comfortable, and dry well. I know they are made for folks on the water but they are super for hiking, rock climbing, and just hanging out in.

North Face class v hking shorts
July 02, 2008

Best hiking shorts I have ever owned in 17 years of hiking and over 9,000 miles in the Grand Canyon.

Ed Heaton

Belted Class V is top of the class
August 24, 2007

The TNF Belted Class V is a great pair of shorts. The move well, and dry fast. The belt hangs freely but can be tucked in and still works fine.

Dave

I really like these shorts.
May 18, 2007

Made with a strong light weight fabric, they have a really good fit to them. The material dries pretty fast, great for water activities of any kind, I recommend.

Ray

Awesome for any water sport.
August 04, 2006

Great fit, especially the long version which falls right above the knee. Dries quick.

Volodymyr Naumtsev

Good product
July 01, 2006

I absolutely love the model. Before buying the pair on the internet I bought the same pair in a nearby sport store, just color was different (khaki). But when I got my new "deep water blue" pair (from Altrec), I discovered that the fabric was slightly different- smooth and thinner. The "khaki" pair was pretty thick and the fabric was "mesh", like it was popular in the mid 90's and what I just LOVE. So I have no complaints about the model, but I was slightly disappointed with the quality of the fabric of the "deep water blue" pair. And also a question appeared in my mind why The North Face uses different fabrics in the same model? Thank You!

Lee

awesome!
May 21, 2006

very comfortable shorts. I hate the new style of below the knee drives me nuts, because above the knee is hard to find these days. They are extremely comfortable, the belted waist keeps the waist snug in and out of the water. I picked up the navy blue pair, and now after wearing them over the course of a week, im going to pickup another :) Highly recommend for average adults who have a beer gut and like the shorts above the knee.

GREAT PAIR OF SHORTS
September 17, 2005

THESE SHORTS ARE PERFECT FOR EVRYDAY OUTDOOR USE. THEY CAN PASS FOR CASSUAL SHORTS AND SWIM SHORTS. I WEAR THEM TO CLASS SO I CAN IMEADIATELY GO STRAIGHT TO THE SWIMING POOL AFTER WARDS.
