Description

Warmth-to-weight ratios are almost as critical as your food supply in cold, high alpine weather conditions and that's why climbers and mountaineers like this Men's Elysium Jacket from The North Face. Recently North Face updated their Men's Elysium Jackets but kept the emphasis on insulating performance and minimal weight. This highly compressible jacket stows easily in a corner of your climbing pack or travel duffle. The former Napoleon chest pocket found on older Men's Elysium Jackets was relocated to the left bicep, giving you great accessibility to small essentials while you're wearing a pack or full harness. Sometimes the fabric on other cheap down or synthetic puffy jackets will run, fray or tear, but the Men's Elysium Jacket has a durable ripstop nylon exterior that holds up well beneath pack straps and most abrasive surfaces. Depending on how you size your Men's Elysium Jacket, you should have no problem layering this outerwear over a fleece midweight pullover or other clothing with moderate insulating qualities. It also fits well beneath most mountaineering shells.

Just ok...

I found The North Face Elysium Jacket to have an inexpensive look and feel. I am a little disappointed that the designer did not have The North Face logo and The Summt Series logo embroidered on this jacket. They are screen printed on this jacket. That detail alone cheapens the look, in my opinion. I found this jacket to be warm and light weight, yet the "alpine fit" was unusually large for The North Face series of down jackets. It would maybe a good idea to drop down a size when ordering this one. I did. I`m not real sure that I would recommend this jacket. In my opinion this item should retail at $199.

An excellent down jacket if you want a very light weight shell and more warmth than the super light down sweaters. When choosing a jacket for warmth, check fill power, but also check total weight and then consider where the weight is coming from - the shell or lots of down stuffed in it. It's tricky online when you can't feel the jacket. Weight and shell material are your only clues.

great performing gift
December 30, 2011

My son asked for this for Christmas. He didn't have much on his list, so despite the price, I went for it. I made the order by phone, fabulous help on the phone, and the jacket arrived practically overnight. The fit was perfect - he's slight, but tall 6' so the medium allowed room for a sweater underneath. The feel of the jacket is marvelous - silky, and very, very light despite it's 700 fill power. Also important, it looks good, not too puffy, more form fitting, attractive. He went out for a one day excursion (32* and windy) and came back saying he was hot. He rides his bike to work every day, and needed real warmth for the cold and wind. This is perfect. It hasn't rained yet, so can't yet judge its performance in rain. I'll send an update after that. He finds it the best of the jackets he's had because of it's light weight, yet ability to keep really warm, and it only helps that it's good looking, too.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Incredible!

Just got this jacket. Live in the Chicago area, so it's already cold (in the 20's today). I cannot believe how warm and how incredibly lightweight this jacket is! LOVE IT!!

I got a good deal!!

I'd like to recommend to buy this product. It's very light as if I didn't wear anything and the warmest ever. Size is so enough to wear layer clothings inside. I love this jacket ever! It's my best choice.

Best performance for the price!

Great jacket!

I was surprised at how light and compressible, yet warm this jacket is. I am 6'6" so I ordered the XXL for sleeve length. The sleeves fit great, but the jacket is a bit large in the chest. I may try an XL. I weigh 250 for what it is worth.

Great coat for active wear. Lightweight but warm. Construction allows for ample flexibility for wear while active. Elastic at cuffs and drawstring at the bottom help to seal out the cold. I really like the blue color.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

November 28, 2011

A good choice for a hike in the mountains. Light weight, small volume. Protects also good when you stop (no active movement). Also I would like to have a hood (not present). So, as result this purchase as good.

Overall Good Jacket
January 19, 2011

The Jacket looks very nice, and is also very warm. Definitely a recommended purchase. However, the jacket does have a small flaw, the feathers of the jacket seem to be slowly coming out the jacket. The could be a problem a few years down the road. Overall pleased with the purchase.

The Elysium is exactly the jacket I was looking for. It has quickly become my go-to jacket for the outdoor photography that is my passion, and it functions perfectly between my heavyweight parka - designed to withstand arctic conditions - and the several down sweaters and lighter weight jackets I've accumulated over the years. The Elysium is light, but warm in freezing conditions, and yet it's good-looking enough to wear for a night out on the town.

Nice!!!

Happy but...
May 28, 2009

I just got the jacket and it is indeed incredibly warm. But....it is a bit heavier than advertised. Mine (size Large)weighs in at 1.28 lbs., which is almost a half pound more than I was expecting. But, I got a great deal on it and I'm still happy with it regardless of the weight.
