Nice Jacket ..
December 31, 2012
I liked every aspect of this jacket so I purchased it, its very light and warm. Other than the neck being a little wider that what I typically like, eveything else fit great and was top notch.

Mens North Face Makula Jacket

Excellent quality, very warm and not confining. With a name like North Face you can't loose. I may buy one for my whole family. The colors are many to choose from. Your sizes are always available which is a huge factor as most others sell out of sizes and colors.

The Makalu Jacket is stylish and comfortable. Great for keeping you warm after leaving the gym on cold mornings and well as outdoor activities on the weekends.

Zipper is not easy, hood is not removable

First of the all, the jacket is from high quality material, HyVent Alpha is equivalent to Gore-Tex and PrimaLoft One makes it very warm, yet slim profile. But there are a couple of flaws: (1) the hood is not removable, so wearing the jacket is a like wearing a hoody, which I don't like (2) the zipper is very small and hard to zip. I'm afraid I can break easily. I would suspect this part gonna break after 1-2 year use.

light, but warm, waterproof

I was not sure on this jacket. It seems to be a good spring or fall jacket. It is very light weight, which kind of scares me. The water proofing seems to be the real winner here. Its hard to find a waterproof of this type and still be insulated. Would be excellent in moving conditions. Standing would be spring/fall type weather

If you like the Pow-Pow..

I use this jacket mainly for skiing and it is fantastic.. lightweight, true to form, keeps you warm.. It is very sleek looking and in my opinion this is one if the better looking north face's available.. Can definitely be used as a leisure jacket too, however it def comes across as an alpine jacket.. The pictures dont do this jacket justice.. Mine is black with red accents on the zippers.. It's beautiful..

I bought this jacket about two weeks ago, and am very glad I did! I bought the TNF black in Medium. For reference, I am a lean build at 6'0" and 130 pounds. I bought it because of the quality of TNF products and their lifetime warranty. I also own TNF Hooded Denali fleece jacket and TNF HyVent DT Venture rain jacket. This jacket is perfect for those that want a warm, weather-proof jacket without the bulk and weight of a snowboard/ski jacket. The jacket is very lightweight for a winter coat, which was a must for me as I do not like the bulk and weight of winter jackets. Tech: The jacket uses Primaloft One, which is one of the best insulators out there. The water-proofing on this jacket is very impressive as well. It uses Hyvent Alpha, which is on par with Gore-tex, using a membrane system for the shell. I live in the Pacific Northwest, with rainy and semi-cold winters, and it has held up to the weather here. It keeps me warm in 30-40 degree weather and I'm always dry! It's so warm that I no longer have a need to layer for the colder nights. Just a shirt and this jacket does me fine. Wearing a sweatshirt underneath makes it a bit too warm, and little bulky. The fill does stay warm when wet, but I canÂ’t see why the inside would ever get wet. Design: The jacket is very stylish and I wear it out all the time. That being said it is not as long as a ski/snowboard jacket, if that is what you are expecting. That was not a problem for me, as I was looking for something to keep me warm and dry out in the city, not at the slopes. I would not say it is too short, but rather it is more of a technical/casual jacket. It is about the same length as their popular jackets such as the Denali fleece or Venture rain jacket. A good description would be if you took the Venture rain jacket, added more pockets, upgraded the waterproofing material, and added insulation, you would then have this jacket. All the pockets are zippered. There are two hand pockets, one napoleon pocket, and one security pocket on the inside. The hood is very well made and insulated as well. It has a firm curved bill and can be tightened around your face. The hem cinch cords are all internal, which prevents it getting snagged on anything. The hem is tightened through cords in the pockets, and loosened with a pinch along the zipper at the bottom. The main zipper has two zippers for opening it from the bottom. Some people have complained about the main zipper not working well. I have found that when I have trouble with the zipper, it is mostly because that the pin is not in the box all the way. If the pin is not fully depressed into both zippers when trying to zip, it will not zip. It doesn't become a problem once you figure out the zipper. Customers should know that the TNF Black that is pictured on Altrec, is a picture of last season's jacket, and that they are shipping this season's. It is essentially the same design with a few differences. The cinch cords for the hood and all the nylon zippers pulls are red, except for the napoleon pocket which remains black. The left side of the jacket does have the summit series badge. I think it looks better with the red pulls because it gives the jacket some contrast, instead of being all black.
