Description

A proven and popular classic design among customers, this Men's Mountain Light Jacket is a fully waterproof and breathable shell that is Zip-in compatible with identically-sized insulation jackets from The North Face. The lightweight profile makes it an ideal choice for climbing, backpacking and mountaineering, although the versatility makes it a popular choice for a range of other outdoor activities, including skiing, snowshoeing and sea kayaking. The Mountain Light Jacket for men has a two-ply Gore-Tex® Performance fabric that resists abrasion from rock and ice. It's not uncommon to read consumer reviews from satisfied customers who have owned earlier--and heavier--incarnations of this quality hard shell jacket for a decade or more. To keep the jacket design light, The North Face modified the hand pockets to do double duty as vent openings. If you need a secure, non-vent pocket for your wallet or phone, the zippered Napoleon chest pocket is a perfect solution. Inside the Men's Mountain Light Jacket is a stretch pocket designed to carry a water bottle. The removable drop hood is fully adjustable and offers weather coverage for the lower portion of your face.

Men's Mountain Light Jacket 4.7 5 10 10
Great all around rain jacket The first thing I noticed when opening the package was that this jacket is much lighter than any other Goretex jacket I've owned. I can throw it in my backpack when I'm expecting rain, and I barely feel the extra weight. I'm 6'3", 200lbs and the XL was a perfect fit. I have plenty of room to layer up underneath, and it doesn't look too big when I wear it by itself. I've only worn this jacket out in the rain once since I bought it, but I was very happy with the performance. The zipper that connects the hood to the jacket only goes 50% of the way across the collar. I was initially worried about wind blowing through the back of the hood, but this didn't end up being an issue. The hood and collar overlap by about 2 inches, and that was sufficient to stop wind from penetrating. I was able to stand in wind that was strong enough to blow over metal patio furniture without feeling so much as a breeze through the jacket. It's basically like walking around in a tent. I haven't owned this jacket long enough to speak to the durability, but from what I've seen so far I would definitely recommend it. April 3, 2011
I have two TNF Mountain Light Jackets. I had to send my first MLJ for a repair and didn't want to go without one for a month, so I bought a second. I use the jacket for snowboarding mostly and am very happy with the performance. The newer one feels lighter in weight and has the new feature of a stow away pocket. The newer MLJ has a ripstop type quality to the material. I miss the sleeve pocket from my first jacket, but that's about all I miss. I purchased a large. I am 6 ft tall and 175 pounds. I use a TNF Denali fleece as a zip in. Sometimes, that combination is too warm, especially if I have my long underwear on also. The MJL is a fantastic shell. April 3, 2011
Another good north face jacket Replacing an old worn out North Face jacket with this one. Seems to be every bit as good as the old one, which lasted many years. As always, price is high but not too much else out there that compares. March 30, 2011
Great all around jacket This jacket is perfect if you are looking to buy one jacket for everything. It is not an extremely technical jacket and if your primary goal is for extreme alpine adventure and climbing then you might want to keep looking. If you are looking for a everyday jacket that can be used as a ski shell or used on a backpacking trip, then look no further. I use the shell by itself down to about 40 degrees before I zip in another layer. Only complaint is the rubber wrist straps. Not sure why they would not use soft material but all in all a great purchase. March 28, 2011
This jacket is a great product. The rain protection is awesome. It was out in a downpour and didn't feel a drop. My north face denali jackets zips in easily. The collar is roomy without being bulky. The only downside is the absence of a zippered chest pocket. March 21, 2011
Great TNF product I recently purchased the Mountain Light jacket to compliment my other TNF products. I really like the fact that I can zip-in my Denali jacket, and my Nuptse vest; thinking about adding the Massif jacket also. I have tried both of them and they work great together to help keep me warm during the frigid temps outside. I am 6'3", 205 and the XL fits the best, even the arms are long enough: I usually run into a problem with arm length and have to go with a XXL and then the body of the jacket is too big. I also like the fact that the jacket is Gore-Tex; best waterproof material I have come across. It is an investment, but one that will last you for a long time. February 4, 2011
Gold Standard The North Face Mountain Light Jacket is the gold standard for Men's Alpine endeavors. Its Goretex technology is often imitated but never duplicated.Totally windproof, waterproof, and warm.I always come back to it. Only minor issue is that it runs a little bit large. January 16, 2011
Poor first experience We ordered this jacket as a christmas gift and when it arrived brand new it had a huge tear in the pocket. I don't know if this was a manufacturer's defect but it made the experience very poor. The second one we received was fine. January 9, 2011
My wife bought this shell for me a few months ago. Since then we've had torrential downpours and blizzard-like conditions. I couldn't be happier with the performance of this shell. The Gore-Tex keeps me dry and the overall construction of the coat is designed to keep rain from entering through vulnerable places. Paired with my Pumori Polartec 200 fleece, this is a formidable winter jacket that is not too bulky, yet still provides plenty of warmth and protection from the elements. December 29, 2010
A great jacket This is a great mid weight shell. Well built, durable and wind and water proof. A bit too heavy for summer but perfect for about any other season either alone or with liner. December 13, 2010
