First thing you think when you pull on The North Face Men's Nuptse 2 Jacket? Warm. Second thing? This Nuptse 2 seems to fit just a little snugger than my old Nuptse. It's not just those extra pints and burritos you and your climbing buddies down every weekend after a few hours at the crag, North Face has designed this newer version with a slimmer, more modern fit. Just as durable as you want it to be, this lightweight winter coat is made from mini-ripstop nylon and has abrasion-resistant shoulder panels to protect the jacket from pack straps. Stuffed with premium 700-fill goose down, you'll have all the breathable, high-loft warmth you need to battle frigid temps.
Stuff this North Face jacket into one of the 2 zippered front pockets and you'll have no problem finding room in your pack for it. Pull it out at your high-elevation camp and make your buddies jealous as they huddle over their little stoves, warming their hands on their cups of mac n' cheese. Velcro tabs at your wrists and a drawcord at your waist help retain body heat and seal out chilly drafts. Zip-in compatible, this down coat will connect to any same size TNF shell for a nice puffy layer of insulation on the slopes. From December blizzards in Oregon to October backpacking on the Colorado Trail, The North Face Nuptse 2 Jacket for men will be your lifeline when the mercury plummets.
Old school down jacket still a winner
January 01, 2012
I bought my first down jacket from North Face in the 1970s and it is still in service, tucked away in my camper van for those days or nights when the temperature drops below freezing. Since then style in down jackets has changed. All the other down jackets I have bought in recent years have a thinner, more athletic cut, are much lighter, less resistant to tearing, and intended as a middle layer between a lightweight inner layer and a protective shell outside. The Nuptse 2 is an old school, stand alone, down jacket. With a pound and a half of high quality down, it will keep you warm on the very coldest days. It is roomy enough to throw on over a wool sweater or fleece jacket. The material is more resistant to damage from the elements, so you donÂ’t need an outer shell unless you are expecting a downpour. You may look like the Michelin man -- the cut is not that much snugger than earlier versions -- but you will have a jacket that will keep you warm, all by itself, whatever other layers you may be wearing at the time, in the coldest climates you are likely to encounter. I like my lightweight down jackets, especially those from Marmot and Patagonia, but I also really like having one jacket that I can throw on anytime, with no fuss, and that I know will keep me warm in the coldest temperatures even when I am not working up a sweat.

Fits perfectly and feels great. Does not feel bulky. Will be using it on our next climb to Mt Everest. We got too hot in our other jackets!

I have a favorite jacket that I have worn for years. I just could not find a replacement for it. So I went on the internet and found this one at altrec.com. I worried about buying without being able to try it on first. My worry was unjustified. It is a beautiful jacket and the fit is great. The description on the web site was true the product. When it arrived, it was what I expected. Never2Old
Great coat but not for shorter men
January 19, 2011
I bought this coat as a birthday gift for my husband and I wish it worked for him! He's 5'5" and about 185 pounds and while the body could have worked for him the arms were too long and way too large all around making them look way too puffy. He wanted it to work because it was so comfortable and warm, but we'll have to keep looking for something that fits him better.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useNice&Warm-Nuptse 2 Jackets

No Longer Cold
January 05, 2012
After carefully scrutinizing multiple reviews and videos on various websites, I decided to purchase The North Face Nuptse 2 jacket. I am impressed. I annotated used to the appearance of a down jacket, but it is definitely warm! I live in Alabama where the majority of our weather is comfortable with the occasional cold spells. So far this jacket has secured warmth on 30° weather. My only complaint is that it seems to run a little big. I look very big when using the jacket's zip on capability with The North Face Atlas Triclimate jacket in a size large. I will most likely trade for a medium. I am 5'11" and 185. Buy this jacket!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useWorth the money
January 06, 2012
I recently purchased this product and love it! It's slightly a size too big (for me), so I will probably have to return it for a smaller size. Other than that, I recommend this product anyone who needs a warm jacket for the winter.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: slighty too bigNuptse Down Jacket is a Must Have Essential
September 09, 2011
This down jacket is a must have essential for all mountain sports, backcountry, and alpine travel, and for those who want to stay warm anytime. It is by far one of the most coveted and well made products out there. The down fill is 700+ goose down. The jacket works superbly in cold weather. When zipped into a North Face shell, the combination is perfect for super cold conditions. I have both a Denali and Nuptse and use them for different conditions inside my North Face Varius Guide Jacket. My wife "borrows" my Nuptse for evening sporting events to stay warm in the stadium! She loves the way it keeps her toasty on even the coldest nights. (Thought that was my job!) Because this is a high end item, you truly get what you pay for, and North Face guarantees their products for life. This is an essential must have for serious backcountry users and for times when you want to stay really warm when it is miserably cold. The jacket will stuff into its inside pocket and packs down light and small. Light weight - super warm - North Face Lifetime quality. A Must have Essential.
March 03, 2011
This was purchased for my son who is going to China to live for a year. It appears to be well made and warm. For a jacket that protects to such low temperatures it is scantily sized. It should be a bit longer to protect the lower back. It runs small in general.
Pros: Build quality, Cons: Bad design, Low performanceMay 04, 2011
This is not the first time I purchase through Altrec, I bought many items and mostly Northface. The quality of this jacket is excellent, because the quality is exactly match the description and very comfort as well at all time. Shipping is very fast . Highly Recommend.

great ! very light and very warmth, VERY COMFORTABLE.I highly recommend it.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of useTried the competitor-came back!
March 15, 2012
The reason this jacket gets a great review is that it is made so well. The fabric holds up to alot of activity like throwing hay for my horse and clearing snow and playing with my over zealous black lab! The competitors jacket (more $) tore and ripped. Never leaving NF again.
Pros: Lasts foreverMarch 29, 2012

Best cold weather coat
December 14, 2012
I purchased two Nuptse 2 down coats for myself and my son. What I like most is how the sleeve has a velcro closure which keeps the cold out. I also like the fact that it has the two toned look on the shoulders which highlights. My con is that I wish it had a hood of some sought for my son but overall its a GREAT coat..I give it a 3 thumbs up!!!

perfect balance
December 30, 2010
I have used this jacket every since I got it, and fell in love with it, compared to others; it is the perfect balance of warm, comfort, water resistant, fit and style, without being too bulky, what more could you ask for from a jacket, if you get one you won't regret it, I love the fact that it has a emergency hood that stores in the collar.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, water resistat, has a hoodyPerfect Winter Jacket for the Cold and Snowy
December 30, 2010
As a student at Syracuse University, this jacket has done everything I expected and more. I love it and would recommend it anyone looking for a very warm but lightweight jacket. You can't even feel the cold. It seems waterproof but I haven't been in a down pour in it, only lots and lots of snow.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueAbsolutely Perfect!
January 11, 2012
I bought this jacket for my boyfriend after he had fought me for years on converting to a "puffy" coat for the harsh New England winters. Last year, I bought him a lighter weight down coat from a local "sale" store that doesn't allow returns, but at $20.00 for the coat, I figured what the heck! While he still loves that coat, he definitely needed something warmer and more durable for shoveling snow and dealing with the ridiculous cold we experience in New England. I bought him this coat for Christmas this year, and he has yet to take it off. Super cozy, very warm, and not bulky at all. He's 6'5, 240 lbs, so I ordered him an XL and it fits perfectly. It doesn't "swallow him up" like the old school down coats do, and he has plenty of room to wear a hoody under it. Maybe next year, Santa will bring me the long down coat!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Costdependable jacket
December 07, 2010
The North Face nuptse jacket I have purchased has so far lasted me 2 years and is still extremely durable. Also amazingly during an unusual rainy day in the winter I had rained so hard and I was completely dry thanks to me jacket in fact it seemed to me when I took it off in my car it had water everywhere on it. Anywhere water could find a grip I found water and even with that not even the tinniest drop of water could be found on the inside on my jacket.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of useAltrec is the Best
January 08, 2012
My 14 year old son is 6'2 and travels alot with his basketball team. The weather has been inconsistent and he has been able to wear the coat during the inconsistent weather. He has not been too hot or cold at all. He was very excited to get the coat and thought the coat would not fit his long arms, but it was an excellent fit. A coat we will appreciate when it gets colder and we want to keep our athlete warm!! The price was fantastic and the service swift!!

Bought one of these jackets 6 years ago and lasted me until now. Keeps me warm in any weather whether in windy conditions or even when I was up in the mountains skiing. I would still recommend you stray on an additional layer of water repellant for those heavy rainy days. Bought this new one as a gift.

January 08, 2012
I bought this coat for my boyfriend who is hard to fit. He's very muscular, with a broad back and and a bit of a tummy. To his surprise, the coat fits perfectly (5'9" 230 pounds). He loves the lightweight feel of this coat...it keeps him very warm without having to add any layers. The coat looks great on him and surprisingly isn't so bulky that it makes him bigger than he is (it probably helps that I got the coat in black). He's only been wearing the coat for a couple of weeks, but it does seem very durable (which is my experience with North Face -- both my 2 1/2 year old and I have North Face down coats). He also likes the waist and wrist adjustments on the coat. His only complaint is the lack of internal pockets on this coat.
nice jacket

Got it for my dad. Everything looks perfect, except for it doesn't have the inner zip pocket, which is contradictory to the specifications. He thinks the pocket is a must-have for him, so I have to return it.

Trendy Jacket but NOT Warm Enough
December 27, 2010
Very popular jacket in Chicago which is why I chose it. Unfortunately, it was just not warm enough for me in Chicago. I always needed another layer like a fleece under it to stay warm. I like a jacket that keeps me warm whether I'm in a t-shirt or a sweater. I returned the jacket and am much happier with my Mountain Hardware jacket. Overall, the Nuptse is a fine jacket and very trendy in the winter months if a city, but if you're looking fir true warmth, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

I bought this from Altrec a long time ago. The jacket is used every winter and is still like new. Washes up great and is still somewhat water repellent although not as good as it used to be. Jacket hasn't shrunk either. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who wants a warm long lasting jacket. About a year after I bought mine, I picked one up for my wife. She loves it too.

Simply OUTSTANDING!!
December 22, 2010
I wear my Nuptse down jacket everyday here in the Aspen Highlands when the temps are below 35 f. TNF`s 700 grams of insulation is perfect under the conditions you will find here during the winter sports season. Not bulky, fit is true to size and is offered in great colors. When layered correctly, this jacket is extremely warm. My choice was the Bittersweet Brown. Truely, my winter favorite.

Take on Old Man Winter
December 18, 2011
This is my first and only down jacket. If it's snowing and windy outside, this is the first thing to come out of my closet. It keeps you warm and toasty. (Layering has almost become optional.) And it's lightweight! That being said... this is jacket is not particularly suited for rain. Rainwater will eventually seep in through the seams given enough wind/water/time into your inner layer. (In my case, my dress shirt...) Add a waterproof shell, a hat, & a pair of mittens/gloves and you are good to go!

I live in Southern California where it rarely gets into the 30's. If I were younger, this may be a jacket that is a bit too warm. I admit it -- I am 60 [when you get older, you get a bit colder easier!] and a perfect jacket to wear when the temperature drops into the low 50's and below.

A classic down jacket, very warm. it is a little bulky but can't complaint considering the warmth it provides. that is a jacket everyone shall have for the bitter winter. I am 5'9, 65KG, the S fits well. it could be zipped in Mountain light shell and makes a super warm shell.

Nuptse - Worth Every Cent
January 11, 2011
I have only had this jacket since December 25th, but I have worn it every day and it is phenomenal. I work in construction management and spend a majority of my days walking around jobsites in the northeast US.... needless to say, it is extremely cold this time of year. The cold is not even an issue now with the Nuptse jacket. I can stay outside all day and not feel remotely cold. As far as fit -- I am 5'11", about 200lbs. I had originally asked for the XL because that is the size I usually wear in jackets. After trying the XL, I decided it was a little short in length and a little too small to wear with a sweatshirt underneath, so I jumped up to the XXL and it is great. If you like jackets to fall a few inches below your belt line, I would suggest bumping up a size. If you are considering a durable, insulated jacket ... this is your best pick, hands down! I can't think of a single "dislike."
December 05, 2010
Great jacket...my son loved it and I have it in the women's. It is lightweight and warm and very comfortable. Fit is just right. He wore it two years and needs a larger size now. Will buy another. We love them.

I want to start this review off on the right foot: here in Boston, MA we have had a really mild winter this season. It was *last* year's winter that motivated me to buy the Nupste 2. I have read the other reviews for this jacket. Some of the criticisms are warranted: there are indeed only two hand pockets, one of which can be used to stow the jacket. That said, I can't really see, given the design of the jacket, how North Face can add more pockets without affecting its look and function. Personally I have addressed the issue of "waterproofing" that other reviews have brought up about this jacket. I am fortunate enough to own a shell #the North Face's "Libre Triclimate", should anyone want to know -- another fine jacket# so that I may zip the Nuptse 2 inside the shell. The ability to zip the Nupste 2 into a shell, or go out and about without the shell, as the weather dictates, is another great selling point. Either way, you're sure to be warm and that's the whole point. In short, you will not be dissapointed with the Nuptse 2 jacket. I highly recommend it.
Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value, zips into a north face shell, Cons: just two hand pocketsAlready own the The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket? Tell us your thoughts.
Great Fit, Great Quality, Great Price

I am 6'5", 225lbs with 36 in sleeve length and the XL fits me perfectly with just enough room for a bulky sweater if i want. Will order again form Altrec. A+ experience all around.
Pros: Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: none that i have foundWrite a review for the The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket here.
Tried the competitor-came back!
March 15, 2012
The reason this jacket gets a great review is that it is made so well. The fabric holds up to alot of activity like throwing hay for my horse and clearing snow and playing with my over zealous black lab! The competitors jacket (more $) tore and ripped. Never leaving NF again.
Pros: Great value, excellent fabricMarch 26, 2012
It's very warm and comfortable but a little bit short than I expected. It is very good for cold states with a lot of snow like CO, but in California, I don't think I need it very often, but everyone should have one just in case.

Great jacket!
January 05, 2011
I finally decided to get myself the warmth of a down jacket this winter, and did a lot of looking & comparing beforehand. I didn't need to - I should have bought this jacket 1st. It's nice & warm, appears pretty durable, fits good but doesn't make me feel like the Michelin man. Just a great all-round jacket.

This jacket is awesome, I'm not sure what I would do with out it. Love it when it starts to get cold, just throw it on and poof snub and warm. You can also wear this to bed, use it as a pillow or for extra warmth.

the north face nuptse jacket is a great jacket. however, it is a bit lofty and cumbersome for extended trips through the backcountry. nevertheless, it is an outstanding piece for in-city or overnight trips.
VERY WARM FOR A LIGHT JACKET
December 27, 2012
This jacket is very warm with its 700 down. The jacket is very light and also large. When I first wore the jacket, it made me look very big and it stil does but that is what makes this jacket warm. Overall, this is a great jacket and is recommended for anyone who need a light warm jacket.
Pros: Ease of use, light, warmNuptse - Worth Every Cent

Never2Old

It's a best seller for good reason....

Bought this for the husband, along with the Marmot Zeus so he could pick which he wanted, and he liked the NF Nuptse better. He is a tall drink of water (with long arms) at 6'3" and 175lbs and the Large size fits him well. I was concerned about the jacket and sleeve length, but it looks great and is long enough in both places, and roomy enough for a couple of layers underneath without being "swimmy". He liked the features ( hood, adjustable wrist straps, snaps at wrists, interior zip pocket) on the Nuptse better and the collar and wind flap both felt more secure and purposeful on the Nuptse than on the Zeus. Also, the exterior just seems more durable, and having worn the Nuptse myself for the past few years, I can attest to its warmth, durability, water repellent properties and overall comfort. This is true whether I'm walking around town, up in the mountains, or walking around on a frozen lake in Northern Minnesota. I never worry if I'll be warm enough. I just grab my jacket & go. Also, it seems to go from outdoors to indoors well, without feeling like I'm wearing a furnace that I need to escape from. I've never worn it in a true downpour, but even with the rain here in Oregon, it never seems to get wet, so I appreciate that. Bonus that it packs into its own pocket for use as pillow, which is great when you want to take a good jacket with you when you're traveling by plane. I think the fact The NF is still making this jacket after so many years, and it is still so popular (especially in our capricious culture) is clear evidence that it is a good product. Though I've never needed to contact them, I hear their customer service is awesome. Hope this info is helpful.

I purchased this identical jacket a couple years ago, but when the shelf in the garage broke and splattered battery acid on it, I was on a mission to find a replacement. I believe that other than battery acid, this jacket would have been indestructible. I tried to cover up the marks with a black sharpie and some electrical tape, but a replacement was necessary for going out in public. The North Face has discontinued this particular jacket, and it wasn't looking very promising to find another one. But, thanks to Google, I found Altrec, and my jacket! of course The North Face is trendy, but I've never had such a versatile winter jacket. I never get cold, and rarely get overheated. Actually I will find myself walking through the house 15 minutes after getting home, not even realizing that I still have it on! Neither wind nor rain penetrates the durable liner, and the 700 down is perfect. (before I found this jacket online, I tried the 800 down summit series, which I thought was too warm!) If you're on the fence, BUY IT!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, looks cool! It's a best seller for good reason....

Nuptse Down Jacket is a Must Have Essential

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great valueSo light you don't believe its real

I purchased a small Nuptse2 in black, it looks great. Although a little poofy, but the rectangular blocks makes you look slim and tall with fashion. The jacket itself is extremely warm, but if you don't wrap your wrists with its velcro, wind chills may go seep in. The tie straps that tighten your waist are very well hidden underneath the jacket. Easily one of the best purchases I have ever made.
