Description

First thing you think when you pull on The North Face Men's Nuptse 2 Jacket? Warm. Second thing? This Nuptse 2 seems to fit just a little snugger than my old Nuptse. It's not just those extra pints and burritos you and your climbing buddies down every weekend after a few hours at the crag, North Face has designed this newer version with a slimmer, more modern fit. Just as durable as you want it to be, this lightweight winter coat is made from mini-ripstop nylon and has abrasion-resistant shoulder panels to protect the jacket from pack straps. Stuffed with premium 700-fill goose down, you'll have all the breathable, high-loft warmth you need to battle frigid temps.

Stuff this North Face jacket into one of the 2 zippered front pockets and you'll have no problem finding room in your pack for it. Pull it out at your high-elevation camp and make your buddies jealous as they huddle over their little stoves, warming their hands on their cups of mac n' cheese. Velcro tabs at your wrists and a drawcord at your waist help retain body heat and seal out chilly drafts. Zip-in compatible, this down coat will connect to any same size TNF shell for a nice puffy layer of insulation on the slopes. From December blizzards in Oregon to October backpacking on the Colorado Trail, The North Face Nuptse 2 Jacket for men will be your lifeline when the mercury plummets.

So light you don't believe its real
April 02, 2012

I purchased a small Nuptse2 in black, it looks great. Although a little poofy, but the rectangular blocks makes you look slim and tall with fashion. The jacket itself is extremely warm, but if you don't wrap your wrists with its velcro, wind chills may go seep in. The tie straps that tighten your waist are very well hidden underneath the jacket. Easily one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

It's very warm and comfortable but a little bit short than I expected. It is very good for cold states with a lot of snow like CO, but in California, I don't think I need it very often, but everyone should have one just in case.

Nuptse 2 Jacket is AWESOME!
March 21, 2012

I want to start this review off on the right foot: here in Boston, MA we have had a really mild winter this season. It was *last* year's winter that motivated me to buy the Nupste 2. I have read the other reviews for this jacket. Some of the criticisms are warranted: there are indeed only two hand pockets, one of which can be used to stow the jacket. That said, I can't really see, given the design of the jacket, how North Face can add more pockets without affecting its look and function. Personally I have addressed the issue of "waterproofing" that other reviews have brought up about this jacket. I am fortunate enough to own a shell #the North Face's "Libre Triclimate", should anyone want to know -- another fine jacket# so that I may zip the Nuptse 2 inside the shell. The ability to zip the Nupste 2 into a shell, or go out and about without the shell, as the weather dictates, is another great selling point. Either way, you're sure to be warm and that's the whole point. In short, you will not be dissapointed with the Nuptse 2 jacket. I highly recommend it.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value, zips into a north face shell
Cons: just two hand pockets

Tried the competitor-came back!
March 15, 2012

The reason this jacket gets a great review is that it is made so well. The fabric holds up to alot of activity like throwing hay for my horse and clearing snow and playing with my over zealous black lab! The competitors jacket (more $) tore and ripped. Never leaving NF again.

Absolutely Perfect!
January 11, 2012

I bought this jacket for my boyfriend after he had fought me for years on converting to a "puffy" coat for the harsh New England winters. Last year, I bought him a lighter weight down coat from a local "sale" store that doesn't allow returns, but at $20.00 for the coat, I figured what the heck! While he still loves that coat, he definitely needed something warmer and more durable for shoveling snow and dealing with the ridiculous cold we experience in New England. I bought him this coat for Christmas this year, and he has yet to take it off. Super cozy, very warm, and not bulky at all. He's 6'5, 240 lbs, so I ordered him an XL and it fits perfectly. It doesn't "swallow him up" like the old school down coats do, and he has plenty of room to wear a hoody under it. Maybe next year, Santa will bring me the long down coat!

It was around 30F in San Jose in the morning. I am happy that I got this one. It kept me warm when I went out in the morning to take a walk. Also during the day and in the evening I can wear it - this jacket just looks great! It is very light, puts no burden on me.

Great coat
January 08, 2012

I bought this coat for my boyfriend who is hard to fit. He's very muscular, with a broad back and and a bit of a tummy. To his surprise, the coat fits perfectly (5'9" 230 pounds). He loves the lightweight feel of this coat...it keeps him very warm without having to add any layers. The coat looks great on him and surprisingly isn't so bulky that it makes him bigger than he is (it probably helps that I got the coat in black). He's only been wearing the coat for a couple of weeks, but it does seem very durable (which is my experience with North Face -- both my 2 1/2 year old and I have North Face down coats). He also likes the waist and wrist adjustments on the coat. His only complaint is the lack of internal pockets on this coat.

Pros: Great design, Great value, lightweight, warm, great cut / fit
Cons: no internal pockets

Altrec is the Best
January 08, 2012

My 14 year old son is 6'2 and travels alot with his basketball team. The weather has been inconsistent and he has been able to wear the coat during the inconsistent weather. He has not been too hot or cold at all. He was very excited to get the coat and thought the coat would not fit his long arms, but it was an excellent fit. A coat we will appreciate when it gets colder and we want to keep our athlete warm!! The price was fantastic and the service swift!!

No Longer Cold
January 05, 2012

After carefully scrutinizing multiple reviews and videos on various websites, I decided to purchase The North Face Nuptse 2 jacket. I am impressed. I annotated used to the appearance of a down jacket, but it is definitely warm! I live in Alabama where the majority of our weather is comfortable with the occasional cold spells. So far this jacket has secured warmth on 30° weather. My only complaint is that it seems to run a little big. I look very big when using the jacket's zip on capability with The North Face Atlas Triclimate jacket in a size large. I will most likely trade for a medium. I am 5'11" and 185. Buy this jacket!

Old school down jacket still a winner
January 01, 2012

I bought my first down jacket from North Face in the 1970s and it is still in service, tucked away in my camper van for those days or nights when the temperature drops below freezing. Since then style in down jackets has changed. All the other down jackets I have bought in recent years have a thinner, more athletic cut, are much lighter, less resistant to tearing, and intended as a middle layer between a lightweight inner layer and a protective shell outside. The Nuptse 2 is an old school, stand alone, down jacket. With a pound and a half of high quality down, it will keep you warm on the very coldest days. It is roomy enough to throw on over a wool sweater or fleece jacket. The material is more resistant to damage from the elements, so you donÂ’t need an outer shell unless you are expecting a downpour. You may look like the Michelin man -- the cut is not that much snugger than earlier versions -- but you will have a jacket that will keep you warm, all by itself, whatever other layers you may be wearing at the time, in the coldest climates you are likely to encounter. I like my lightweight down jackets, especially those from Marmot and Patagonia, but I also really like having one jacket that I can throw on anytime, with no fuss, and that I know will keep me warm in the coldest temperatures even when I am not working up a sweat.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, super warm

December 30, 2011

Bought one of these jackets 6 years ago and lasted me until now. Keeps me warm in any weather whether in windy conditions or even when I was up in the mountains skiing. I would still recommend you stray on an additional layer of water repellant for those heavy rainy days. Bought this new one as a gift.

Take on Old Man Winter
December 18, 2011

This is my first and only down jacket. If it's snowing and windy outside, this is the first thing to come out of my closet. It keeps you warm and toasty. (Layering has almost become optional.) And it's lightweight! That being said... this is jacket is not particularly suited for rain. Rainwater will eventually seep in through the seams given enough wind/water/time into your inner layer. (In my case, my dress shirt...) Add a waterproof shell, a hat, & a pair of mittens/gloves and you are good to go!

Pros: Build quality, Performance

Nuptse Down Jacket is a Must Have Essential
September 09, 2011

This down jacket is a must have essential for all mountain sports, backcountry, and alpine travel, and for those who want to stay warm anytime. It is by far one of the most coveted and well made products out there. The down fill is 700+ goose down. The jacket works superbly in cold weather. When zipped into a North Face shell, the combination is perfect for super cold conditions. I have both a Denali and Nuptse and use them for different conditions inside my North Face Varius Guide Jacket. My wife "borrows" my Nuptse for evening sporting events to stay warm in the stadium! She loves the way it keeps her toasty on even the coldest nights. (Thought that was my job!) Because this is a high end item, you truly get what you pay for, and North Face guarantees their products for life. This is an essential must have for serious backcountry users and for times when you want to stay really warm when it is miserably cold. The jacket will stuff into its inside pocket and packs down light and small. Light weight - super warm - North Face Lifetime quality. A Must have Essential.

I absolutely love this jacket! I bought this after trying on my buddies standing around in -20 C weather here in Norway. And let me tell you the beer in my bottle froze before I even experienced any chill. This Jacket is a must. I was so pleased with it that I bought one, as well as a bunch of other North Face Gear to have a winter system.

This was purchased for my son who is going to China to live for a year. It appears to be well made and warm. For a jacket that protects to such low temperatures it is scantily sized. It should be a bit longer to protect the lower back. It runs small in general.

Jacket does the job.
February 04, 2011

We've had a brutal winter in New England this year. This jacket keeps me warm and dry. Being outside is unavoidable with such a tremendous amount of snowfall. The jacket is lightweight, comfortable and solid. I can move around easily and stay warm without having tons of layers of clothing underneath the jacket. North Face never disappoints.
