Not a hiker and only wear these shorts for casual reasons. By far, the best pair of shorts I own. Am going to purchase the other 3 colors (trying to talk myself into buying them all at once) - I own the dune beige. Highly recommend these to anyone looking for a casual pair of shorts that extend just past the knee.

I am normally a Patagonia GI Shorts fan, but now I am no longer! These shorts fit great, have good durable material, and have plenty of pockets for GPS and hiking snacks. Rear pockets are oddly placed, but huge! Overall, I'd buy 'em again.

I was somewhat skepticle of paying $30 for a pair of shorts that would not be used for dress; however, after receiving the shorts I was happy that these shorts can be used for nearly any occasion. Excellent construction and well thought out placement of the pockets make these shorts a winner. Although I haven't been caught out in the elements yet with these shorts, I can attest to the fact that the lightweight material is strong yet comfortable and should not fail to impress the user.

These shorts are sturdy yet comfortable and allow for great range of motion. The extra pockets allow you to carry essential items, yet are unobtrusive when empty. The fabric dries quickly, and is easy to clean. The sizing chart was accurate for choosing the perfect fit.

I now have four pairs of these shorts. I wear them over my bike shorts. They stand up to the abuse of downhill and free ride trails. The pockets are roomy and secure. When riding alone, I keep my cell phone in the one of the pockets with the Velcro closure. It’s easier to reach than my backpack.

Just like the North Face Trail Pants, these shorts are both light weight and durable. North Face was my first source for simple layers like pants and shirts four years ago, and this company's clothing has not disappointed me on trails from the AT, OT or to the PCT.

These shorts are great. They are comfortable and lightweight. They also dry very quickly. I have been using them for mountain biking and think they are perfect for it.

I purchased these cargo shorts for my son as a birthday gift. He is a paleontologist and will live in these well made, comfortable, great fitting shorts. The fabric is light and cool and yet surprisingly durable. The fit is roomy without being "big". The style is perfect for traveling, hiking, and outdoor activities. My son will find these shorts appropriate for his dig this summer as well as for just hanging out. We are both very pleased with this product.

I purchased two pair of these shorts and they are among the most comfortable and best constructed shorts I own. I find them comfortable when Fly fishing and in the cockpit of my Cessna on hot days. The cargo pockets are large and easy to reach when I am flying as I store a handheld back-up radio, pens and flashlight in them. Kudos to North Face and to Wildernet.altrec.com. These are great folks from whom to make purchases since they are fast, efficient and keep the customer informed. Their customer service is top-notch and they have become my primary supplier of outdoor grear. I am happy to recommend them highly.

These shorts are great; I have been swimming in nasty lakes, wading in flood water, and simply wearing them around for a week. They are perfect. The back pockets are easily accesible, but keep your wallet secure. Also, they are long enough for me, and I am 6'4".

These shorts fit fine, and wear well. My only reservation is that the back pocket has a slanted entry with a velcro fastener, and I prefer a pocket with a top entry.

i have three pairs of these shorts so obviously I think alot of the product. they are as good for hiking in the mountains as kicking around town. I like the 100% nylon for the durability and ease of wash & dry. If i were North face i would make these two changes to make the perfect short. 1) add a hidden zipper in one of the cargo pockets.2) make the short a 12 inch inseam to better keep up with the fashion trends. This does however keep my 16 yr. old from stealing them. Over all a solid short. Send my comments to the north face and i will gladly field test a new pair with the noted changes.Better yet,i will give them to the 16yr.old.Ha.

These shorts will provide years of rugged use. Nylon is hefty, cargo pockets are handy. And crotch gusset is essential when you're moving. There are more well-designed shorts out there, but you'd have to pay double for them. These shorts get the job done.

The shorts are comfortable and functional. The summer in New England can be very damp and humid. These shorts are cool and dry quickly. Only dislike, the front pockets are way to deep, not very user friendly!

I like the shorts. They are well constructed and comfortable. The fabric is tightly woven and appears to resist snags and tears. A minor problem is the built in belt. The tag end can't slip into the belt loop, thus allowing it to hang.
