The North Face Men's Paramount Convertible Pants

The Paramount Convertible Pant is perfect for packing light for your travels or hiking adventures. It features mid-thigh zip-offs and extended side-leg zips.

  • Abrasion-resistant nylon fabric
  • Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) 30
  • Length Options: Short, Regular, and Long
  • Extended side-leg zips
  • Durable water-resistant finish (DWR)
  • Pants zip off at mid thigh
  • Constructed waistband with belt loops, zip fly, and belt included
  • Front-slash pockets
  • Rear and side cargo patch pockets with Velcro® closures
  • Zippered right coin pocket
  • [SIZES] S - 2XL
  • [fabric] 170 g/m2 Paramount—100% nylon faille
  • [inseam] small 30", regular 32", and long 34"
  • Available in the following colors while supplies last: Asphalt Grey, Dune Beige, Soil Brown, Zinc Grey, New Taupe

Fit Tip: This is a do everything kind of pant. The convertible zips off at just the right length, and when you wear these full length, it is nice to have the side leg zips for ventilation. There are plenty of pockets to stash your goodies, and the fabric can really take a beating. These pants fit a little bit baggy, so wearing long johns underneath is not a problem. I have a 30" waist and 30" inseam. A size small, regular fits perfect.

Best Convertible Pants!
The most durable [con-vert]ible pants I own. The zippers have never snagged on me and they are conveniently colored matched (right and left). I'm not too fond of the built-in belt but I still own 4 pairs!

Versatile, durable, great fitting, and quick drying. Great!
I've owned several versions of the NF men's convertibles through the years, and I have never been disappointed in the quality of the product. In fact, I've been so pleased that I bought two sets this time. The convertibles I bought this time are more versatile than any I have purchased in the past, they have proven to be very durable, and to top it off, the matching leg zips makes it easier than ever to get the legs on when sudden weather changes occur. If I ever wear these out, I'll be looking for The North Face convertibles again.

The best travel and trekking pants you can get!
Many deep pockets that can very safely and securely hold money, passport, and even a small camera.... Leave the day pack behind. Quick drying and rugged. The convertible feature is a must for use in changing climates and temperatures. The adjustable belt allows you to keep pants secure even after getting wet. Hands down, the best travel pants/shorts you can get.

Very durable. Would like to order the green ones when they are available. Although I agree with some of the other comments that the earlier versions seem to be better quality.

Not many pants around where you can find a 30 waist and 34 length. These fit the bill. Comfortable and plenty of pocket space too.

Excellent Travel Pants
The tough yet lightweight fabric holds up to a variety of environments. Ease of conversion and color coded zippers on the legs are a benefit. The extra gear loops on the waist are very versatile. Quantity of pockets is a plus. Great look.

An Option for the Tall Gals
I'm a 6 ft tall female that wears a size 6 in womens. I bought a pair of NF Paramount in the long. This length has been perfect for me. I had first purchased the regular length and they were just a tad bit short. They are very lightweight and have taken a serious beating on my hikes. Once washed these pants look as good as new. These pants have many pockets and a belt you can tighten up as needed. At first I didn't think the belt would ever be needed, but once you work up a serious sweat the belt is a nice option!

Great pants
I basically wear these pants about 5 days a week. I have 4 pairs that I actively wear now and have had two pairs in the past that I worn out. I am 6'2" tall with long legs and the tall size fits perfectly. They are not perfect and don't last forever; but they are lightweight, very packable, plenty of pockets, breathable, quick drying, and nice looking. Need I say more?

These pants are
I live in south Louisiana where we have mild winters. I wore these pants playing golf the other day. We teed off in the morning when temps were a little chilly and by the 11th hole I had to remove the leggings. Perfect. The extra pockets, the moisture wicking material, the fit and comfort of these pants made paying the full price well worth every penny. Also. You won't find better service or prices from any other outfitter than Altrec. I placed my order and went the free shipping route, and still had my package within 5 days. The prices at Altrec beat ANY I've found to date. As long as Altrec keeps up this outstanding service, I will be a customer for life.

GREAT product!
I have been wearing Paramount [con-vert]ibles for at least 4 years now and currently own about 7 pair, along with 2 pair of another style of North Face pants. Yes, they are all I wear. I used to be a T-shirt & jeans guy. Now I am a T-shirt & North Face pants guy. One of my original pair finally had to be retired because the zipper broke. They aged well & the fabric is very durable. The retired pair had no signs of wear/tears besides the broken zipper. This newest pair is my favorite version. The fabric feels slightly lighter. Here are the reasons I love these pants: EXCELLENT stain resistance, any wrinkles come out just by wearing them, cell phone pocket on side holds phone and writing pens, deep front pockets, and the cargo pockets (one for MP3 player and other for wallet. This alone helped improve my back problems caused by sitting on a wallet all day.) Last but definitely not least, the fabric does not hold on to smells (camp fires or sweat) like cotton does. I usually wait until I have worn them at least 2 times before I wash them, and could easily go longer if I need to. Also, I machine wash and line dry ALL of my synthetic fabrics. Turn a fan on them and they're dry in no time. It will be a sad day for me if The North Face ever stops producing these pants. Make sure you get the appropriate length.

Perfect pants!
Great pants for just any outdoor activity. They are perfect for getting into nature, traveling or just hitting the town. They look great and not too sporty if you would want to wear them to school, workplace etc. Nice big pockets, great material, perfect fit! I guess I won't use them as shorts, but this feature is great in case it's getting really hot. Overall great pants for a very reasonable price.

The only pants I'll buy now..
They're great. Made of a super-durable material, they ventilate well (I'll never go back to jeans again), the pocket space is more than you can hope for, the option to unzip the pant legs is a feature that every pant should have. Super comfortable. In the winter you'll need thermals underneath because of the airflow.

I will usually only buy Marmot or Mountain Hardwear for trekking but these did an amazing job! Recently went on a 12 mile hike in a cloud forest (very humid) and stayed dry! They kept me warm when it was cold and cool when it was hot! Not to mention I was walking in thorn bushed for miles upon miles and the thorns did not even catch the fabric! Excellent buy!

Very durable and with deep pockets.
I have several pairs in different colors, and wore one pair almost exclusively for two weeks walking up to Mt. Everest Base Camp, and wore the same pair in the Amazon. Very versatile! The deep pockets add extra security, but they could be improved by adding a pocket with a zipper. Plenty of room in the slash pockets for all kinds of things combined, and you won't even notice it if you carry a small camera there. I've had several different kinds of convertible pants, and these are the best.

Great! I compared several brands. These are more durable, more resistant to snags and look nicer than the others. Less flimsy. Ample pockets and well-place zippered security pocket. Took 3 pair on 3 week trip to Africa but needed only 2. Dried quickly overnight. Still looked good at the end of the trip.

only item you need for wearing on a spring summer or fall outing
These pants are simply the best. Cut for comfortable fast moving. Plenty of pockets for gear and the zip off leg is perfect for the afternoons when it heats up. If you searched the world for the best pant/short combo you would come back with these. I bought two pair. My oldest son stole the first pair and I had to order some more for me. I am not going to wear these around my youngest son!

great pants
First of all these pants are more flattering than your usual cargo pants. I wear a women's size 8-10 pants and the men's small fit great. They cut the wind and are warmer than jeans. They have been soaked in the rain at 40 degrees and still kept me warm. Mud brushes off easily if you let it dry. Another plus feature is the R/L label for the zip offs. My only complaint is the pockets on the front of the thigh don't allow for much stuff.

Great all-around pants
I originally bought these for hiking, but have found myself wanting to wear them for casual use as well. I thought the deep front pockets were odd at first, but have found them very useful when hiking, especially when stepping up on higher ground/rocks/logs/etc. Whatever was in my pocket used to fall out, but these pockets keep that from happening, so that's a much-appreciated feature. Zipping back on the legs is quick & easy (at least if the pants are off :). They're lightweight and the convertibility is perfect for 3 season-use (in my case the hot Georgia summers, cool spring mornings, and wonderful fall weather). I'll be buying other colors soon!

Just got these and they feel great. The pockets are huge so you can carry a lot of things. I am 6'3" but pretty thin and I got the medium tall. They fit great, but when converted to shorts the shorts could be a little longer. Also, the material seems pretty sturdy so they'll hold up great.

Comfortable on the field and in the lab.
Bought this pair because I needed something to wear to bike or hike with and go straight to work in. The zipper pocket on the right side stores my handphone nicely and comfortably, without hindering leg movement. Lightweight and quick dry makes this a wonderful pair to wear here in the tropics. Heat retention good, legs never felt cold in the cold room (4 degree celcius), nor felt too warm walking in the tropical heat (32 degrees celcius plus). Neat in-built pants hook too, unlike my other hiking pants.

Great pants, so glad I purchased them. Hiked for 13 days in Presidentials in NH on the AT - 103 miles - 6 days clear/sunny, 7 days consecutive rain, cold, wind, pants did outstanding, dried out fast in the shelters, repelled water well, zipped off/on quick, right over my boots, outstanding, can't wait to wear them on my next trip! another great TNF product.
There are two companies that i usually have no complaints about their products: Merrell and TNF. With these pants i wasn't dissapointed as well. I put them on and wore for a week straight. They are lightweight, breathe well and dry very fast if got wet in the rain. Had no chance yet to wore them as shorts, but see no reason why they could be bad. Excellent money spend.

Buy these pants
The reviews here about the Paramount convertible pants are all true. A versatile and quality pant. Shorter inseam will require $10-$15 for professional tailoring. Well worth it though. One does not normally see the attention to detail at this price point. I purchased another pair. Very pleased with this product.

Practical and comfortable
I've traveled Peru, in the Andes and Amazon, and Burma in these pants. They have the pockets that you need for travelling, deep and with a good sized zippered coin pocket. The material is strong, comfortable and keeps you dry. Open the leg zips a little for extra ventilation in countries where shorts aren't appropriate and it's hot, or you just want to keep covered because of mosquitos. They're incredibly comfortable and easily adjustable with their own light-weight belt that comes included. Great that they come in different lengths as they're not easily hemmed due to zips for easy on/off of the leg sleeves.

great pants
These pants are very durable and have met all my expectations. They are comfortable to hike in and the deep pockets give me peace of mind for my valuables. They are very easibly convertible to shorts with little effort. All in all, these pants will last me a very long time.
