Great first time experience
October 30, 2010
I ordered these pants on October 25 and they arrive on the 28th. First time customer, must say I was quite pleased with my purchase experience. I havent wore them out in the field yet but these pants are cut very comfortablely and appear well designed to handle outdoor wear. I plan to wear these out when Im out photographing nature so my only complaint is that I wish the pockets were deeper and roomier to hold filters and other accessories more securely. I bought these for under $60, a very nice buy!
Pros: Build quality, Performance, comfort, Cons: pockets could be largerGreat gear
March 21, 2010
Lightweight. Versatile, lots of pockets in the right places. Shed water, dry easily. Can zip off without taking hiking boots off (tho I have small feet). Repurchase - with enough damage and blood you can render these unsuitable for good company. Not bulletproof, but very tough and built with integrity.

Great Pants!
August 12, 2008
I looked at several convertible pants before purchasing North Face. The material is higher quality and much more comfortable.
Great pants.
August 10, 2008
Have a pair of TNF pants that are 12 years old almost like these, i'm sure these will be as good, also great service from Altrec.
Versatile, durable, great fitting, and quick drying. Great!
November 17, 2009
I've owned several versions of the NF men's convertibles through the years, and I have never been disappointed in the quality of the product. In fact, I've been so pleased that I bought two sets this time. The convertibles I bought this time are more versatile than any I have purchased in the past, they have proven to be very durable, and to top it off, the matching leg zips makes it easier than ever to get the legs on when sudden weather changes occur. If I ever wear these out, I'll be looking for The North Face convertibles again.
I highly recommend these pants!
May 25, 2008
I own three pair of these convertible pants and they are great for those chilly mornings but warm afternoons. I wear them while playing golf and they are so much better than the cheaper convertible pants. They also provide protection against the wind and light rain.
The pants appeared to be well made & just what I was looking for

These zip off pants are a gift for my brother. He is tall and thin and zip off pants for tall people usually don't come in small waist sizes. I had trouble finding something I thought would fit him. I liked them, but the true test is if he likes them.
Zipper broke!
January 10, 2011
Zipper on the pocket broke after a couple of weeks of wearing the pants almost daily. Other than that Ilove them! I wish the zipper hadnt broken though...
Great buy
October 08, 2011
This product is perfect for hiking. The pants are quite comfortable. I wore them on a hike through the mountains of Nepal and they maintain very well. They also dry very quickly which comes in handy when it is necessary to wash them outdoors. I would definitely recommend these pants!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: CostGreat pants.
January 12, 2010
Nice finish and good fit. Just what I need for my upcoming trek in Costa Rica.
Great all-around pants
April 19, 2010
I bought my first pair of of these pants in 2003 and they're still going strong. I was browsing Altrec and decided to get some more - I should be set for the next 20 years.
Northface paramount convertible pants are awesome

These are my ideal convertible pants. They fit well, look well, feel smooth, protect excellently, breathe well, and convert easily. Doesn't get better for warm weather.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueAn Option for the Tall Gals
August 10, 2009
I'm a 6 ft tall female that wears a size 6 in womens. I bought a pair of NF Paramount in the long. This length has been perfect for me. I had first purchased the regular length and they were just a tad bit short. They are very lightweight and have taken a serious beating on my hikes. Once washed these pants look as good as new. These pants have many pockets and a belt you can tighten up as needed. At first I didn't think the belt would ever be needed, but once you work up a serious sweat the belt is a nice option!

Nice pants, great price!!

Planning a backpack trip to Europe and need to pack light. These pants will offer versatility and comfort with very little bulk. Altrec had beat everybody by 1o%. Thanks
My go to pants
November 29, 2009
Last year I purchased two pair of North Face convertible pants and would recommend them without hesitation. The zippers are well hidden and being able to convert them to shorts is a huge advantage in our South Carolina summers. Buy these pants with confidence. You'll not be disappointed.
My favorite birding Pants
March 16, 2013
These are my very favorites. The material is heavy but yet they dry rapidly. The cargo pocket could be more roomy, but for me they are roomy enough. When you are out in the middle of nowhere in a motel you can wash these out in the sink wring them out, hang them up and they will dry in no more than 12 hours. The colors are just right for birding in the field. You sort of blend right in. Camo would be better but I am not complaining, just suggesting. My one complaint is the stupid belt they come with. The first thing I do is cut the belt off, pull it out and throw it away. If you can afford to buy these pants, you can also afford a realistic belt to hold them up. Duh.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGreat pants
January 03, 2010
I bought these for my husband, who is difficult to shop for. He loves them--says great fit, really comfortable. Wore them hiking above 10,000 feet and found them to block the wind well, warm enough at the top, and not too hot at the bottom. The convertible pants/shorts part is convenient. Will be buying these again.
These pants rock!
July 24, 2008
Dudes & Dudette's! From Argentina to South Korea Ive worn these pants thru some tough stuff. You can climb,Trek, yoga- anything. They wash/dry very easy and compress into your pack with ease.

The best travel and trekking pants you can get!
November 13, 2009
Many deep pockets that can very safely and securely hold money, passport, and even a small camera.... Leave the day pack behind. Quick drying and rugged. The convertible feature is a must for use in changing climates and temperatures. The adjustable belt allows you to keep pants secure even after getting wet. Hands down, the best travel pants/shorts you can get.

Comfortable and great looking pants.
July 30, 2009
Worth the money. I'll be taking them backpacking soon.
Great Fit, Versatility
October 12, 2010
Wore these right out of the package. Comfortable in wide temp ranges. Good water resistance. Like the lower leg zippers. The belt is a good feature as the medium is loose for my 33" waist. Good price when considering the multiple use as shorts. Well made.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueMen's Paramount Valley Convertible Pants
October 16, 2011
I have three sets of these pants in different colors. I also have one set of the previous older version. The pockets on the this version are much better as the old previous version the front pockets went all the way down to my knees so I would have to really grab low to get things out of my pocket and they would be so low that they would interfere with walking slightly. These versions corrected that as the pockets don't go down as deep to your knees. I wear these in the summer and winter. I also use them for Kayaking and they keep me pretty dry. They are very comfortable and taking off the pant legs when it gets hotter is very easy. Also the color coding makes putting them back on not a guess. I like wearing these to the airport when I fly also because they don't have a metal belt buckle and you don't have to take off the plastic belt because it is non removable. It also provides plenty of pockets for whatever I need to carry. Also wearing them as pants from NY and converting to shorts when arriving in FL is very convenient. Overall I am very happy with these pants and hope they last me a long time. My other pairs are over a year old and have no wear on them.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, water resistant, integrated belt, Cons: CostGood pants but tight throughout the thighs
May 14, 2010
Nice pants - I love the fact that the legs zip off & the length of a 34 inseam. The thighs are snug if your legs are muscular or if you plan on stuffing the pockets with much of anything. The main front pockets are quite deep & roomy. However the cargo pockets are located directly over the main front pockets. That combined with the less then average upper leg room limits the comfort & utility of the pants.
Best Convertible Pants!
November 21, 2009
The most durable [con-vert]ible pants I own. The zippers have never snagged on me and they are conveniently colored matched (right and left). I'm not too fond of the built-in belt but I still own 4 pairs!
Will not travel without them.
January 31, 2010
The best convertible pants I have owned. Comfortable, lightweight. Worn as shorts and with leggings during hot weather. Great service from Altrec. Ordered the wrong size. Called them and they had the correct size in my mailbox in time for my trip. I'm going to order another color of the same. Only negative is that front pockets are too deep.
Very Nice !
September 26, 2011
Recently had the opportunity to try this out in the rain to see just how water resistant it was going to be and suprisingly it held up rather well.In light to moderate rainfall and depending on how long the rain lasts while you are outdoors it will hold up with no problems, but in a heavy downpour it's about 95% effective which is not bad because I didn't think it would be able to take it. The drawcord is very convenient to eliminate the need for a belt and the medium size I purchased for a 32" waist was a bit roomy but not by much thanks to the drawcord. It fits perfectly and very comfortable. The right zipper pocket could have been a bit more roomy and including zippers in all pockets would have been nice to ensure contents are totally secure, but no big deal I still thing this was a worth while investment.

Bought these pants for everyday wear here in the winters and for camping as well. Great fit, color, and material. Altrec had the lowest price I could find online as well.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueExcellent Travel Pants
August 30, 2009
The tough yet lightweight fabric holds up to a variety of environments. Ease of conversion and color coded zippers on the legs are a benefit. The extra gear loops on the waist are very versatile. Quantity of pockets is a plus. Great look.
Great Product!
July 19, 2008
The fabric is heavier that most cheaper convertible pants. Good quality and worth the extra $$.

This is the 2nd pair of Paramount Convertible pants I've bought for my boyfriend and he loves them. Super fast drying and super comfortable. Nice big pockets, great material, perfect fit, very versatile and functional.
I have purchase 4 pair. Great comfort and fit.
August 25, 2008
I found out the hard way that they shrink after washing and drying. I lost 1 inch off the length.
Worked Great
September 29, 2010
I bought two pair of these for my excursions on my cruise to hondurus and belize. The were comfy a snug. When I was done ziplining I took converted to shorts and went in the water. they dried fast.
Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great valueThe North Face Got It Right!
November 06, 2012
These pants are Fantastic! I am a big guy (6’1”’ and 225lbs) and the XL fits me perfect. I am extremely pleased with the feel and comfort of these pants. My wife really likes the looks of them on me. TNF got it right with these pants! Great value and service from Altrec. I will certainly order additional pants.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value, fits right!, great colors to pick fromGreat Product!

I looked at many brands of convertible pants, before settling on the North Face. The fabric and construction are sturdier than the competition.

Awesome pants!
July 22, 2010
I bought a pair for my husband. In our recent trip to Europe, this pant ended up to be the only pant he used. We washed it at night couple of times and hanged it in our shower, it was bone dry in the morning. I am getting another one for him for the future trips.
Great all around pants with one significant flaw
October 08, 2009
I wear these daily no matter the weather. They are an excellent weight for use in all four seasons (not too heavy in summer, not too light in winter), and the [con-vert]ible feature is a must. However, I have had eight pair and every one needed the butt seam reinforced (no, I am not overweight).
Great Pants
March 02, 2010
As a travel guide these pants are perfect, the only exceptions is that I find that when they are converted into shorts they are too short for me.
Incredibly rugged
March 21, 2010
I already owned three pairs of these pants and just bought a fourth. The zip-off feature is terrific as are the pockets. I came to appreciate the ruggedness when a boulder came loose while hiking and crashed into my shin. My shin was bloody and bruised and the 3 inch gash needed a couple of stitches, but the material came through just fine with no rips or abrasions!
Great pants for golf
February 28, 2010
Great pants for golf. Can handle the cool mornings and the hot afternoons
good pants
May 18, 2009
These pants are awesome- except for the seam in the seat- Ive had sew in a strip of cloth on the seam to re-enforce the butt area. They fit true to size & are very durable- the only pants I own.
Easy to Pack
July 08, 2009
I wear convertible pants when on hiking trips or on the golf course. North Face pants are easy to pack and are lightweight. Easy to remove bottoms. Deep side pockets are a plus. Altrec shipped quickly. No problems with order.
GREAT product!
January 11, 2009
I have been wearing Paramount [con-vert]ibles for at least 4 years now and currently own about 7 pair, along with 2 pair of another style of North Face pants. Yes, they are all I wear. I used to be a T-shirt & jeans guy. Now I am a T-shirt & North Face pants guy. One of my original pair finally had to be retired because the zipper broke. They aged well & the fabric is very durable. The retired pair had no signs of wear/tears besides the broken zipper. This newest pair is my favorite version. The fabric feels slightly lighter. Here are the reasons I love these pants: EXCELLENT stain resistance, any wrinkles come out just by wearing them, cell phone pocket on side holds phone and writing pens, deep front pockets, and the cargo pockets (one for MP3 player and other for wallet. This alone helped improve my back problems caused by sitting on a wallet all day.) Last but definitely not least, the fabric does not hold on to smells (camp fires or sweat) like cotton does. I usually wait until I have worn them at least 2 times before I wash them, and could easily go longer if I need to. Also, I machine wash and line dry ALL of my synthetic fabrics. Turn a fan on them and they're dry in no time. It will be a sad day for me if The North Face ever stops producing these pants. Make sure you get the appropriate length.
Great pants for everyday use!
December 08, 2010
Hi, i use almost daily this model, i love them. I recomend them for any sport activity or just a casual day. They dry before any other pants i have. The size is real so buy with confidence. You don't be dissapointed by the quality of these pants.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueGreat pants, fast shipping to APO
November 14, 2009
My Med/Long pants in 2 colors came asap to overseas APO. They fit great on me at 5'11" and 185lbs. The grey and green are awesome colors. I've had these pants before in Khaki and grey and wore them out. Thx!!!
great pair of pants
February 10, 2009
I have a hard time finding a pair of pants that fit my size properly...The North Face Paramount Convertible pants came through for me..I look forward to ordering several more pair. The quality is superb.
Very Satisfied
May 22, 2009
The pants fit well and the pocket space is especially handy. Order and shipping notification was very professional. I received the order in less than a week even though I live across the country.
Great pants at an excellent value.
August 18, 2008
I purchased these pants for my husband, who is deployed in Iraq. The are very light weight and they are very soft to the touch. They also work great in extreme heat keeping you cool and the size is true to fit. The service I received from Altrec was excellent.
May 14, 2011
An excellent purchase. I'd tried the garment at a "brick & mortar" store, so I knew which size I needed, then it came down to pricing. Altrec had the best price. Do your homework, investigate what you want, THEN go to Altrec - I have always found great deals here. Happy Hiking!

BEST FIT, WELL-DESIGNED, DURABLE PANTS EVER!!!
December 03, 2009
I have never had a better, more versatile pair of pants in my 63 years!!! They have lasted with heavy use for a very long time. I am a contractor and an outdoorsman. The pants I'm wearing today have done the John Muir Trail and been in top of Mt Whitney 3 times!!! Please don't stop making them...
My favorite pants
January 17, 2010
If I could wear these pants all day every day, I would. They are comfortable, indestructible, plenty of pockets in the right places, great to travel in, wind resistent and they dry quick. My only two complaints are that the two front pockets are so deep, anything you store in them rubs against the top part of your knees when you walk and when converting them to shorts they are a little too short for me. I have three pairs and I plan on buying another pair for our back packing trip to Europe.
Good, light-weight travel pants.
October 26, 2009
These are good travel pants as they are light-weight and have a lot of pockets. They are not as rugged as the North Face Paramount convertible pants but good for general travel use - not good for cutting brush, etc.

Great Pants
September 29, 2011
I love them, very light weight, comfortable, and easy to clean! I love the fact you can turn them into shorts very easily. I use these pants for every day wear and I'd say the fabric is pretty tough.
Pros: Build quality, Cons: CostFirst order from Altrec, not the last!
August 09, 2008
Great pair of pants, going to order a pair of gray, the service was great also.
Great casual and hiking pants
May 11, 2010
These are great pants for hiking or for just all around casual. True fit to size, comfortable and good pocket storage for the trail. Convertible to shorts as a bonus!!
Great
March 01, 2010
Fit great, lots of pockets, a little long but may be ok with hiking boots, roomy, would buy again
Very comfy in any weather.
August 17, 2009
I love these pants. They breath well, wear well, are comfy, and if it get's hot you just zip the legs off.
Great fit!
October 21, 2009
It's tough to find good length in a durable pant: The Paramount does both!
Great fit for a skinny log-legged guy

Not many pants around where you can find a 30 waist and 34 length. These fit the bill. Comfortable and plenty of pocket space too.

Ideal Hiking Pants
April 15, 2010
This is my fourth pair of Paramounts. I wear them on every hiking trip, as they fit perfectly, breath well, and move with me whatever my position. They also keep me dry when when it's wet. I've worn them without thermal underwear with temps as low as the upper 20's. The removable legs are just the icing on the cake when the temp gets above 80. I would never hike without my Paramounts.

Almost a 100% winner
September 23, 2011
North Face is known for its quality and craftsmanship and on this the pants do not disappoint. However, it would be a huge plus if these pants offered a roll-up cuff. Individual inseam lengths vary from person to person and with zippered lower pant legs alterations, if needed, are difficult and costly. Other than that, I was very happy with the fit. I am 5'5", 135 lbs., athletic build and have a 27" inseam. I chose size small as it was the closest possible fit. This is my fourth pair of convertible pants but the first from North Face.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: lacks pant leg adjustmentGreat fit, fast drying, very comfortable.
July 07, 2009
Bought these to wear under armored motorcycle riding pants. Comfortable for all day wear. Easy to pack and wash.
Great pants
August 04, 2009
I basically wear these pants about 5 days a week. I have 4 pairs that I actively wear now and have had two pairs in the past that I worn out. I am 6'2" tall with long legs and the tall size fits perfectly. They are not perfect and don't last forever; but they are lightweight, very packable, plenty of pockets, breathable, quick drying, and nice looking. Need I say more?
Built-in Problem
May 03, 2010
I'd give a 5-star rating like so many other people except I have had to replace the fly zipper on each of my three pairs. Bummer!
Good pants , belt needs work
June 02, 2009
Pants are good. As is belt wont allow you to hang anyting on it since it is enclosed in the pants waste. To get the belt out you have to cut off the end then thread it through the external belt loops. Does not make sense to me.
awesome
April 27, 2010
great [con-vert]ible pants. light weight, water resistant, and built in spf. only caveat is that the shorts are short. standing the shorts are above my knee, sitting they are on my low thigh. i wear 30x30 jeans and these are great (small short).
Well Designed, Constructed and Durable
April 21, 2009
Super flexible by design. Quickdrying, lots of pockets to stow gear and the detachable legs keep you cool. Stitching and zippers seem to be holding up well fr. scrambles off trail to knees on the ground when firemaking.

Great buy & Great Product
January 13, 2011
I purchased these for fishing and they work great. Fishing in Canada in the spring can be a gamble, either freezing cold or blazing hot and that can be in the same day. Wearing these under shell pants works great for when it is cold and rainy and if it gets hot, zip off the legs and you have your shorts. I love the lightweight yet durable material, the many pockets for pliers etc.., and how fast they dry if they get wet. Nice! Thanks TNF!

February 20, 2009
I live in south Louisiana where we have mild winters. I wore these pants playing golf the other day. We teed off in the morning when temps were a little chilly and by the 11th hole I had to remove the leggings. Perfect. The extra pockets, the moisture wicking material, the fit and comfort of these pants made paying the full price well worth every penny. Also. You won't find better service or prices from any other outfitter than Altrec. I placed my order and went the free shipping route, and still had my package within 5 days. The prices at Altrec beat ANY I've found to date. As long as Altrec keeps up this outstanding service, I will be a customer for life.

Pros: Build quality, PerformanceGood pants

Very durable. Would like to order the green ones when they are available. Although I agree with some of the other comments that the earlier versions seem to be better quality.
So far so good

Lots of pockets, efficient zip design. I've had a couple pairs of these versatile North Face pants for several years and hope that these serve me just as reliably.
Great fit, comfortable, awesome

I don't like wearing long legged pants but these are so comfortable I had to purchase more. Pockets are great, they dry quickly. I thought they were a little pricey but quickly realized I would actually pay more for the fit and comfort.
