Men's Plasma Thermal Jacket 4.6 5 25 25
Best Jacket I've Bought This jacket keeps you so warm and the pit zips are awesome. I would recommend this jacket for anyone who spends a lot of time in the snow wether its skiing, snow boarding or just being out side in the snow. If you start getting to warm well doing these things just use your pit zips and you stat to cool off. The North Face Plasma Thermal is the best and the pit zips are an amazing extra. February 5, 2012
Awesome Jacket So, I had some doubts because of the other summit series jackets out there and wondered if this would be warm enough for those cold/mitery mix days in Manhattan, as well as dense snow/wind days outside. I am glad that I was wrong here. Overall, this jacket is stylish, lightweight, warm, and really fun to wear. It was windy and 15 degrees out on my first weekend witht his jacket and I was totally warm on my upper body. The hood/zip up gave me plenty of protection and the wind could not penetration even at some really windy spots (87th and 3rd ave is one). Overall, I really recommend this jacket and even bought one for my wife based on the great reviews. Yes, our friends did give us hard time but they all saw the value in the jackets on that day and she also loves it! On a side note: The zippers really seem cheap compared to the non-summit North Face Jackets and get easily caught. I can see this being an issue in the future so I hope that they are not. Only time will tell. The women's verson of this jacket has the nice double sided/better quality zippers so that is my only complaint. Again, we'll see if this is a major issue later on. Lastly, the fit is a bit large. Yes, I know it's made for layering, but the large is a bit long on the sleeves for me and a bit bulky. However, it is by far less bulky than the other jackets I have tried. I am 5'11, 185 lbs, 43" Jacket, 34 waist, 16.5" neck, 34/35 sleeve, broad shoulders/chest and got a large. Perhaps I should try a medium? Another Note: I am usually an in-between size on most items and need some items tailored. So considering all that, a Large seems pretty fine but I will go and try out a medium at a local store here. Hope that helps. January 17, 2012
One of the Best on the Block truly one of the best items on the block - you can't go wrong with this selection. I've live in New England for 30 years and one thing I've learn always be prepare for the winter. having a great jacket that meets style and quality is my #1 appeal. January 17, 2012
BEST JACKET YET ! THIS JACKET NOT ONLY FITS PERFECTLY BUT IS LIGHTER , AND WARMER THAN I EXPECTED. IF THIS EVER WEARS OUT I'M GETTING ANOTHER ONE. I'VE USED IT ON THE SLOPES AND WORKING OUT IN THE SNOW AND IT PERFORMED BEAUTIFULLY. December 27, 2011
Great Jacket for Cold Weather This is a great jacket for the cold. It's lightweight while very warm. Perfect for an active lifestyle. I recommend this jacket for anyone who's living in extreme cold weather. November 13, 2011
Good jacket I have had this jacket for a couple months now. Have worn it snowshoeing a few times. It's a good jacket, lots of ventilation, and just the right amount of insulation to keep you warm when you need it. It is sized differently than some of my other jackets. I usually wear a large- but I had tried one on at a local store and found that the medium fit the best. March 3, 2011
Outstanding Jacket Overall, this is the best winter coat I have ever purchased. It is very lightweight, comfortable, and warm. The size I purchased is an XL, and it fits perfect (I'm 6'2", 230#, athletic build). I like the hood and how it folds up and down, and it holds its shape so my hair doesn't get messed up too much. My biggest complaint is that the zipper doesn't move up and down freely all the time. It has a tendency to get slow/stuck sometimes, especially at the bend by the neckline. You just have to straighten the zipper before moving it through the bend. I really like this coat! February 20, 2011
Great Jacket I live in Chicago where the winter is cold, windy and full of snow and rain. This Jacket is great. Warm but really light. So light you won't believe it will keep you warm....but it does. Very warm with just a t-shirt on. Great Coat. You won't regret it. January 17, 2011
Men's Plasma Thermal Jacket for Canadian Winter I am using this jacket in Toronto, Canada. I use this mainly in the city for regular activities like commuting to work, shopping, etc... It is very light and comfortable jacket for driving around doing your regular activities. But when I had to stay over 20 minutes waiting for a bus in -10C weather I felt really cold even when I layered with a thermal wear and a fleece. This is a great jacket but not for staying out in very cold weather (under -10C) without doing any activities. May be more layering may help but you have to buy next size up for that and that is not comfortable when you don't do layering. I am thinking of buying another down jacket for those really cold days. Probably the Galaxy. January 12, 2011
All around great coat. This is the perfect all around coat. Not too heavy, not too light. It fits very nice and is the first coat I grab when going outside for anything. If you are going to be outside for an extended period you'll want a little more underneath to keep warm. I don't think they intended this coat to be the one you wear trekking for long times through the snow but it is perfect for casual outings, quick shoveling, and driving. I love it....and the hood has a little bit of insulation too. I have only one concern and that was the zipper on mine was a little sticky. If it persists I am sure they will repair or replace. December 27, 2010
A wonderful jacket with certain limitations After lots of research i bought the Plasma thermal. My first purchase of a "real winter coat". The primaloft insulation is great...and the jacket is quite warm, as well as completely waterproof. It's restrictions in my opinion are, that it isn't as warm as one might need. I was wearing it in 20 degree weather, and without layering, would have been cold. I suspect that in the single digits or below, you would need several layers to remain warm. It is a technical shell designed for those being active at high climate...(skiing, snowboarding) i needed more of an arctic tundra jacket that would keep me toasty in below zero for extended periods of time So, am going with a Marmot Parka. Should you buy the Plasma thermal, you won't be disappointed, but know it does have some limitations and restrictions. Overall, i would recommend it. December 19, 2010
Great Coat This coat is warmer than it looks/feels. No one would believe the lightest coat would provide this warmth. December 19, 2010
warm and comfortable, lightweight very comfortable jacket. and warm so far this winter. haven't used it in wet weather yet, but it seems like it would be good. the jacket is really lightweight and moves well. really comfortable. the materials don't seem very durable, but its a great jacket for around town. The Perfect Winter Jacket I live in Chicago. So, I'll leave it at that. The wind can cut right through you and when mixed with rain, sleet, or snow, it can be brutal. This jackets pima loft one filling is incredibly light and easily compressible and just as warm as down if not more so. The Alpha Hyvent waterproofing is breathable and water-tight all at once. The zippers are water-proof as well. The real greatness of this jacket is in it's incredible warmth without the heft. Nothing is worse in the city or on the slopes than a big puffy jacket. This plasma jacket weighs next to nothing. I was truly astonished at its toastiness, and if i get too hot, I drop the pit zips. I will say that the zippers are a little sticky. Though I think this is a small sacrifice in North Faces' attempt to make stonger zippers (a past problem.) I've spent more and less, and I have to say that this jacket is the best i've ever put on. Extremely pleased. I am very happy with my recent purchase of a ski jacket (Plasma Thermal - black) made by The North Face. I bought the jacket because of the fluctuating weather and I'm glad I did. Already I've gotten a lot of use out of this jacket in varied weather conditions. For a jacket that weighs so little, and is not bulky by any means, it is extremely warm. In fact, if you typically give off a lot of body heat make sure to wear this jacket only in cold weather because it retains heat very well. All in all the jacket is great and the ordering/purchasing process was absolutely seamless. This was my first time shopping at altrec.com and I will definitely shop here again - especially considering that I was particularly impressed with their wide selection. October 19, 2010
Warm, waterproof and light-weight I have a North Face flight series light jacket (300gr) with 900 down which is amazing, but not waterproof. I looked for one to feature the same light weight and warmth but also to be waterproof (not just resistant). This Plasma Thermal is just great. While it is slightly heavier, it's only marginally so, and the insulation is also in the hood - nothing like keeping your ears toasty as well. Highly recommended. I was also very surprised from the quick shipping and delivery of Altrec. It took only two days from ordering to actually get it. March 14, 2010
Amazing Jacket! I got it for Christmas and the first place I wore it was in Vermont. All I can say is WOW! It kept me quite warm and is great during rain. It is not as big as I expected, but that's what I love about it. It's still very warm without the bulk. Highly recommended! January 24, 2010
Functional, warm and light-weight A very functional jacket. Warm and light-weight. Windproof and waterproof. December 27, 2009
Very functional jacket for all conditions This jacket is multi functional for all winter conditions, rain, snow or wind. The zipper could be better..... November 11, 2009
A keeper A very functional jacket. Warm and windproof without bulk. Lightweight and waterproof. January 6, 2009
Fantastic I've had this coat for 2 winters here in Arkansas. Here it is windy and cold during the winter. This coat keeps you warm while keeping the wind out. I've been rained on once in this coat and it kept me dry and warm the whole time. This coat is also very stylish. I wear it into work every day in the winter over my dress clothes. I highly recommend this coat to anyone who wants to stay dry, warm without having to wear an oversized / heavy parka. October 27, 2008
Holds up to the elements Great jacket. I've had this for two winters now in central PA. Keeps me warm and is lightweight so it does not feel heavy. The Primaloft insulation is toasty and comfortable. This was my first TNF jacket and it is worth the price. I have not been to the mountains hiking in this, but I would expect that it would still keep me warm. May 25, 2008
Really warm, but cool! This jacket rocks! Not only does it keep you really warm, but it looks amazing. Just the right amount of pockets and the hood comes off when you don't need it. Did I mention who amazing I look in it? I would definately recommend this jacket to friends, 'cause I know they notice that I got it and want it too. I picked a great jacket that's sure worth the money and it perfect for any winter activity. January 20, 2008
do not buy I bought this jacket and the ling started to fall out after the second week of usage. The zipper is terrible and it is not warm enough. November 20, 2007
Lightweight warmth This jacket is fantastic for active cold weather adventures or spending a cool night under the stars up in the mountains. Comfortable and incredibly warm for it's weight. August 19, 2007
