Men's Redpoint Jacket
October 29, 2010

I'm 6'1" and weigh about 215 lbs. I usually don't order jackets on line due to the different size fittings. I took a chance and ordered the XL. As close to a custom fit as there is. The Primaloft material is as light as a feather. Wearing it outside today in 35 degree weather was as comfortable as I've been outdoors lately. The customer service was supurb and shipping very fast. I plan to order the North Face Boxster as a shell when really cold weather hits.

Great around town and on the mountain
April 20, 2011

This jacket has performed great on it's own when walking around in the city during the winter and is my go to insulating layer under a Gore-Tex shell when out on the mountain. I still cant believe how light it feels while wearing it. Definitely a solid alternative to down jackets and for a much lower cost.

Men Red Point Jacket
February 21, 2012

I bought this for my husband for his birthday this year. He has all kind of jackets, but none meets the so called "the jacket" for him, meaning a perfect jacket. I think this is it, the perfect jacket of all time in his opinion. We live in TX so we experience all kind of weather, sometimes extreme, so I think this jacket will do the trick. For my husband this is huge! It's a perfect fit for him, there's still room to wear a hoodie sweat shirt under if needed; what he loves most about the Red Point jacket is the weight, it's so light. Again, love the services at Altrec and love you North Face!

Good jacket, but ....
January 02, 2012

Jacket arrived promptly according to shipping timeframe. It was as promised: lightweight, good quality. The jacket was for my husband who is 6'5" and 190lbs... his sleeve length would be around 36/37. Unfortunately, this XL redpoint did not fit his lengthy frame (sleeves too short and billowed in the back). I am unable to comment further but would recommend and can attest to the jacket being as advertised on Altrec. Not to mention, North Face is well known to be a quality brand.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: sleeves on xl not long enough for large/tall fram

Fantastic Jacket
January 05, 2013

I bought this jacket a few years ago and intended to use it as a zip in liner on my coat. It does a really good job as a liner, but I have found that I end up using it a lot more often all by itself. It is really warm and comfortable. I really like that you can stuff it into one of its own pockets for storage since it makes it take up less space in my pack when I go into the back country. It has been pretty durable and I expect it to last for quite a while.

Redpoint Jacket
October 20, 2010

Excellent jacket...especially, for the discounted price at Altrec. Good warmth, light jacket, not too puffy, and fairly resistant to wind & water for a synthetic. North Face is always pretty true to fit. I would recommend to anyone looking for a light jacket to keep you warm in fall or early winter. Good under heavier layers too.

January 21, 2012

Its a great jacket!! I recently bought TNF Varius jacket and wanted to zip in something that will keep me warmer then the Varis itself and the Redpoint does exactly that. I didnt want a fleece zip-in like the Denali. I was looking at other "puffy" type jackets TNF offered but settled on this one. I didnt want a super puffy "Marshmallow Man" look, and jacket that I could wash. The Repoint has PrimaLoft insulation that will keep you warm, isn't too puffy or bulky looking. I'm 5'6' 165lbs and usually wear medium and the medium I ordered fits me well.

More useful by the day
June 04, 2012

The TNF Redpoint jacket is a jacket that becomes more versatile the more I wear it. It has a nylon outer shell is tougher than the more delicate , but lighter Summit series down jackets. It is warmer than most soft-shells due to it's primaloft insulation, but has less water resistance. It's not waterproof so the zippers are more standard issue-- ie, bigger and easier to use. The Redpoint can be zippered into the respective sized Triclimate jacket or shell. Most of the time, it can be worn alone and with it's standard fit, there is sufficient room to layer. With a base layer, it's useful in 30-50 deg F weather with non-aerobic activity. It's not a technical jacket so if your activities demand it, there are better ones out there. It's more a jack-of-all-trades type that can serve many purposes and the price offers great value.

Great Utility Jacket
November 14, 2010

Bought this jacket because there were times I needed more than a fleece vest under my shell jacket and needed more than my mountain hardwear down vest. Similar to a my soft shell it works better as a layering piece or extra jacket. I have been wearing it as a standalone in the fall and early winter in the northeast. It's compact and light, a great extra jacket when going skiing. I'll bring this with me outwest for the extra cold days under my shell or standalong in the spring days when a soft shell doesn't have enough breathability.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

Great jacket for the price
January 10, 2010

I wanted a winter jacket that wasn't as bulky as down, but light enough to work outside. This jacket does a great job at both. Plus, it's wind resistant. I only gave it 4 stars though because when pulling anything out of the left hand pocket, the stuff sack that is attached to the pocket comes out as well, which for me is really annoying. Great jacket for the price though.

Awesome coat!
January 05, 2011

I bought this for my husband who had insisted he did not need a new coat. He has been wearing it everyday since. We live in NC and my husband did not have a coat to wear out in the snow with the kids. At first I was worried it was too thin and lightweight to be warm, but he says it is incredibly warm. He was perfectly comfortable playing for 2 hours in the snow and 25 degree temps. Perfect coat...and looks good too! It is now his everyday coat to wear outside of his workday. Now I need one for me! Order a size up though...my husband usually takes a medium, but the large fit perfectly.

Can't miss jacket at any price
August 15, 2010

Bought my second redpoint jacket, this one in black. Great for layering, and surprisingly warm for its size. Best part is that this is zip-in compatible with a hard shell. It packs tight when not in use. One of my favorite pieces.

Warm and Comfortable Jacket
February 25, 2013

I am a woman, wanted to replace an older version of this jacket I have had for years. I am 5'8", 145 lbs. and bought the medium, the small would have been a slightly better fit as it is a bit boxy but it is super comfortable and the small was not available at the time (and I got an excellent deal on the medium). I find the women's version to be more fitted than I wanted. This jacket is very warm and cozy; I wear it every morning taking my dog on a walk in chilly Central Oregon in the winter. I think it will be an excellent jacket for camping and I look forward to using it for many years!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value

A great Jacket to Own
March 11, 2010

I have been wanting to have a North Face Jacket until I got this one and it really is a great jacket to own. So light and warm on your body. Perfect to wear in Washington where it is always cold and wet. A great buy!

Very disappointing for North Face
May 06, 2009

The Redpoint has so many flaws I don't know where to start. First off, it's not very warm. Yes, I know, 100 g PrimaLoft isn't supposed to be, but don't bother using this jacket when the temps fall below 50 F. The jacket feels very "fitted", almost as if it was meant to be used as an inner layer under a shell. When I zipped it into my Mountain Light jacket, the sleeve snaps kept coming undone as I pulled my arms out. Poor quality? Maybe. Even my neck felt cold as there is no fleece lining to keep it warm when zipped all the way up. There is no compression bungee along the neckline like Mountain Hard Wear has, so wind gets in there quickly. In the end I just grab my Denali and go, and not even bother with this wasted purchase.

Great jacket. I was looking for something that would shield me from the winds in the Midwest but also work as an under layer for my North Face shell when skiing. This jacket is perfect for both. Plus, unlike similar jackets from other manufacturers, this has a convenient Napolean pocket. I highly recommend this jacket for technical wear and for wearing around town.

The whole family now owns this jacket (it comes in a women's version also). Layer it for under 35 degrees, otherwise it's warm enough for windy and cold weather all by itself. Awesome Lightweight Jacket
December 16, 2010

Bought this because my Nuptse was too bulky on warmer days. Jacket wears and washes up great. Perfect jacket for Spring/Fall travel. I've rolled it up into my laptop bag before just in case my destination has rough weather. I bought the Bittersweet Brown color - which still looks the same as day one. No fade (typical of TNF). Zippered pockets are great for toting gloves, keys, and other small everyday items.

January 31, 2011

bought this jacket as an insert for my coat because my 550 bubble insert was stolen. by itself its super warm, light weight and stylish. it inserts in my my old coat perfectly and makes it even warmer. the only con is that is is a little pricey, but everything north face is expensive

Stylish, light, warm as a fleece, PLUS some windbreaking too!
March 11, 2010

Love LOVE this jacket! Been wanting it in New Taupe Green ever since I saw it over a year ago! Had some OT in my check so I justified buying it finally! (I didn't really NEED another jacket - I just WANTED it!) I put it to the test this past weekend on a late winter backpacking / hiking trip in the Dix Wilderness in the Adirondack Mountains. As I approached the summit on Macomb Mountain the wind started to get quite insane! I'd say it was about 30 degrees, but with the wind chill it probably felt like 10 or less. While hiking up the mountain I was getting by with a heavy weight base layer only. But that wasn't cutting it any more while standing still on the wind whipped summit overlook! I threw on my awesome trusty Redpoint jacket and all was well again! This jacket looks cool, is soft and comfortable, has the warmth of a standard fleece and some "windbreaking" you won't get from a fleece without a shell. (So maybe it's warmer than your standard fleece!) PERFECT! Especially when getting it on sale at Altrec! Now if I can only keep it from getting scarred up by camp stoves and camp fires etc.!

Primaloft, for when polyester just doesn't cut it.
February 16, 2011

Walking to work at 6:30am during winter in New England gets pretty cold. The jacket I wear needed more guts. Ordered this North Face Redpoint with Primaloft to replace my 3-in-1 flimsy polyester liner and it's great. Soft, light, and warm, maybe a little too warm on the mountain, but that's what vents are for. Great choice and it's zip-in compatible. Love it. 5'11" and 185 lbs with a perfect fitting size large.

The jacket is very comfortable and warm. I own 3 redpoint vest and 1 2007 Redpoint jacket. The fabric on the 2012 Redpoint jacket is the same as the one I purchased in 2007 but its a lot rougher than the redpoint vest. The quality haven't changed since 2007. I feel that the chances of having a tear on the jacket is very slim because of the rougher fabric used on this jacket. One thing that I don't like about this jacket is that the north face logo is not sewn on, in fact it is actually printed on. People claim that the logo does not wear off but if north face sewed on the logo, the logo will be permanently on the jacket forever. FIT OF THE JACKET: I am 5ft 7in and 165 pounds and i purchased a medium. It felt a bit to big but once i start layer it will be perfect. I suggest that if you want to layer with this jacket, get your normal size but if you just want to wear this jacket alone, get a size smaller.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Wears quickly, north face logo not sewed on

Great Purchase!
February 15, 2011

I have never wrote a review or even purchased a North Face jacket before, but I had to share my experience this time. I purchased this North Face Redpoint jacket for my husband as a Valentine's Day gift and he loved it. I had some concerns with the size but after reading a couple of reviews I purchased a Medium jacket and it fit him just perfect (he is 5'7 and weights around 185). The quality and style of North Face jackets are very superior. I purchased the black color since it looks better and matches with everything.

February 27, 2012

Got this jacket as an insulating layer for wet weather. Loving it - fit is great, and it is warmer than expected. The jacket is lighter than heavyweight fleece and easier to layer with - Great layer under a hard shell for cold weather or alone for cooler dry weather. I am 6'-0" 185 lbs and have a medium. I would recommend this jacket. Also looked at the Patagonia Micropuff/NanoPuff series, but chose this on price and fit.

Warm Redpoint jacket
January 12, 2011

I've used my Redpoint jacket in wind chills down to almost 20 below. It's an extremely light (in weight) jacket, and very comfortable. It's not the very warmest jacket you can find, but perfectly good for all but very cold temperatures. The quality is fantastic (zipper, stitching, etc.). It will be great for traveling since it's so light. I'm often between a medium and a large, and the medium jacket fits me perfectly. I'm looking forward to many years of use.

Men's Redpoint Jacket review
December 27, 2010

I bought a North Face jacket in Spring this year and was looking for a layering piece that I could attach to inside of the jacket I have. I asked the customer service and she suggested me several options. Redpoint jacket was one of them. I am glad that I selected this one. It fits very well inside of my jacket and I now have a complete winter jacket to keep me warm during the winter season. Redpoint jacket is very warm and good quality. I really love the combination. Moreover I can use both my Redpoint jacket and the other jacket on their own. It's a good price although I wish I had a coupon that I could have used.

I like this jacket, it's nice and lightweight but still very warm. The fit is a nice standard cut, not huge but not too tight either. To me, it's a perfect combination of warmth and puffiness between the Nuptse and the Denali jackets!

Northface #2
December 20, 2010

I love the Northface Redpoint jacket. I would recommend this jacket to anyone. This jacket is relatively light for a winter coat, but still provides a substantial amount of warmth. It is also somewhat water-proof so being outside in the snow will not cause your jacket to be soaking wet. The only issue I have with this jacket -- an extremely minor issue -- is that the teeth on the zipper are plastic. One day during my morning rush, I jumped into my car however, I accidentally sat on and scrapped some of the zipper teeth with my jeans (I am not a heavy person) and several of the teeth broke off. However because of Altrec's extraordinary return policy, I was able to get another Northface Redpoint Jacket.

Great for teen!
November 07, 2010

I purchased this coat for a young man. He needed a coat that he could grow into and would provide him with warmth and style for the future. He wears the coat and seems to enjoy it.

My Son Likes It
January 03, 2011

North Face is where it's at for teenagers. My son is delighted with the gift, and we at least know he will wear the coat because it has the cool factor!

Very Happy

This jacket is light weight yet warm. My son took it with him to Barcelona and says it is working out great. It is easy to pack and it serves a purpose.

Perfect
December 20, 2011

Ordered this coat for my husband for Christmas. He always gets hot so easily, that he rarely wore a winter coat. This one is perfect, it's not too bulky or too light. It keeps him warm, but not too warm where he's not willing to wear it. I even got him a matching hat!

It's a mini down jacket.
March 15, 2011

I love the design and how it keeps me warm even though it's not as thick as a down jacket, it still gets the job done. The only thing that bothers me is the sizes. I normally wear medium, but it feels a bit fitted and the large feels too big. But I kind of have broad shoulders for my build, so it could just be me. Other than that, North Face never disappoints in quality.

Light and warm
May 15, 2010

Light and warm North Face jacket perfect for layering. Zippered hand pockets and chest pocket are very useful for stowing light gloves and a hat.

Awesome Jacket
March 14, 2011

My wife insisted I get this jacket. Bittersweet Brown is a very cool color that looks great on and feels so soft and comfortable. The lining in the jacket keeps me very warm and it is also super lightweight. I love North Face stuff!

Everlasting Redpoint Jacket
March 06, 2012

I'd love this jacket. I bought myself one a couple years ago. Now, I'm buying two more for my family members. They are light, soft, warm, a bit waterproof and windproof but last forever. You can pack this in your handbag or small bag. Bring it out when you feel chilly and wear it. It's so versatile! I washed mine pretty often in the washer and dryer for the last two years and still looks like new.

Pros: Ease of use, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: Cost

Great looking jacket but not quite what I was looking for.
December 17, 2009

Only giving this 4 stars just because it was not quite what I was looking for. Was going to give this to my husband for Christmas but I think that now that I have received it in the mail I will return it and get The North Face Men's Down Aconcagua Jacket instead just because I am worried that it will not be warm enough. It is compact and light, so much so that when he felt the package the jacket was delivered in he thought it was a shirt that I was ordering him for Christmas.

warm lightweight and comfy
January 31, 2011

This jacket is very warm and extremely lightweight. it provides comfort for wearing during mild activities as it also breathes. The nice thing about this is, you can put this in a small stuff sack and bring it skiing with you in the backcountry as am extra layer.

Great jacket for fall/winter/spring
October 20, 2010

This jacket is light enough to wear on a 50 degree day with just a T-shirt underneath, yet heavy enough to wear on a 15 degree day with a hoodie. I'm 5'10, 165 pounds, and a Medium fit me perfectly. I really like the fact there is no elastic around the waste so it hangs freely and doesn't bunch up. I have yet to see anyone else with this jacket on my campus. Price was great and delivery was fast.

North Face - great jacket
November 10, 2010

This is the second North Face jacket that I have purchased in 2 years. The quality of the jackets are far superior to other brands. This jacket was purchased to be used during the fall/winter season. My concern was the jacket might not protect me from the cold and wind. On the second day of wearing the jacket, it was 40 degrees and 30 mph wind. I must admit this jacket kept me far warmer than my leather coat and provide significant wind protection. Good work North Face!

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Excellent
August 05, 2010

This jacket is surprisingly warm. I had traditionally thought the thicker the jacket, the warmer. This jacket is relatively thin, but provides excellent warmth and wind protection. I currently use it as a mid-layer zip in with utmost confidence in warmth this winter.

First use
March 12, 2011

I wore the jacket today for the first time in 55 degree weather. It was so thin and light, I underestimated the effectiveness of the Primaloft lining--I'm allergic to feathers so it's been strictly polartec for me til now. It was too warm, which means it will be great alone in colder weather and a terrific (and not too bulky) inner layer when it's really cold. The medium size was snug and comfortable; I'm 5' 10" and 165. By North Face's reputation and appearance, I'm sure it's well-made, but obviously I haven't put it to the test yet. The only negative I noticed was the absence of pit zips.

Great jacket for the $$$
December 10, 2010

I needed a warm/insulation layer and was thinking of either one of those TNF puffy coats or something that could work with a TNF shell I already had. So when I saw this I thought it would be a great solution to my problem. It was/is cheaper than TNF puffy coats, and much more versatile. It fits perfectly with TNF shell which is awesome and it's pretty damned good by itself. I live in Wisconsin, it gets cold, it snows etc. So as soon as I got this coat I decided to see what it could do. First I took the dog for a morning walk/hike. It was 10-15 outside with no sun and the dog (chow/lab mix) wanted out of the cold before I did, and that's a rarity. Next I went out to shovel with it, and after 15 min or so I had to take off my gloves and hat cause I was getting too warm. To sum up, it's a great jacket that will fit in your other TNF coats (if applicable) and is pretty awesome all by itself. I highly recommend it.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

great coat

perfect for late fall/early spring. very warm and great under a shell.

My Son Loves It!
January 24, 2010

I bought this jacket for my son ~ the king of I don't need a coat. He loves it and has gotten some compliments on it from his friends. I'm happy because I know he is warm dry and he is happy because he looks good! The style is classic - seems true to size and deceptivly lightweight.

Great lightweight coat
December 17, 2009

This is a great lightweight coat for the Fall. It does a great job keeping me warm on the cold and windy streets of New York City. I also like that it can snap and zip into my North Face Gore-Tex winter jacket.

I like this jacket, it's nice and lightweight but still very warm. I like how long the sleeves are and how high the soft-lined collar comes up. I would recommend this to a friend
