Description

Contrary to first impressions, The North Face Redpoint Optimus Jacket isn't just for mountain climbing. This streamlined, helmet-compatible insulated jacket is also great for hiking, skiing, camping, backpacking and snowboarding--especially if you're an outdoor enthusiast who prefers technical outerwear with uncluttered simplicity. The nylon exterior of the Redpoint Optimus Jacket features a DWR (Durable Water Repellant) finish, but it's not entirely waterproof. That's because this lighter fabric is the key reason why the Redpoint Optimus Jacket is an amazingly lightweight, completely compressible and highly breathable outdoor outerwear design. This entire jacket rolls up and folds down to fit inside the internal zippered chest pocket, allowing for easy portability on the trail, road and rails. It's also ideal as a middle layer beneath a waterproof climbing or backpacking shell. The North Face utilized a seamless shoulder construction that eliminates potential pressure points beneath a backpack. The hood on the Redpoint Optimus Jacket doesn't detach, but it does have peripheral adjustment so you can tweak the fit with or without a climbing or skiing helmet.

Men's Redpoint Optimus Jacket 4.4 5 11 11
Amazing! It keeps me pretty warm for such a light jacket, it stays amazingly warm and comfortable. I bought this jacket for my trips to the mountain -- this jacket is great. I would highly recommend. Overall, I am more satisfied with this purchase December 31, 2011
Redpoint Optimus Exactly as advertised, athletic fit, compact and light-weight. The zipper isn't the best quality but everything else is pure Northface. This won't keep you warm on a cold February Chicago night but is exactly what you need while making your next alpine approach with the proper layering. March 15, 2011
A nice and light jacket The first thing I noticed was how lightweight this jacket was. It was so light that I was skeptical that it could be very warm and durable. However, having just come back from a ski trip, I can say that the jacket holds up very well. I wore it through heavy rain and snow, and the jacket has proven to be very durable and entirely water resistant. For such a light jacket, it stays amazingly warm. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. My only complaint is that the zipper is difficult to align just right, so sometimes it may be difficult to zip up. February 26, 2011
Great Jacket Warm, comforatble, and great range of motion. Got this jacket to replace another old jacket -- this jacket is great. I would highly recommend and buy again. February 14, 2011
Great coat but zipper is difficult I purchased this as a gift for my father-in-law. He is a small man, around 5'2". It was hard to find a coat to fit his small size and this one seems to fit perfectly except it's a little tight if he wears a sweater underneath it. Since the coat is so warm, he can get away with just wearing a shirt under it. The only negative comment I will make about the coat is the zipper. He has a difficult time zipping it up since he has to get it through 2 zippers perfectly before he can pull it up. January 20, 2011
On my second one... thanks to an certain airline's luggage handling - and after shopping around for a replacement, I went back and like the updated one even more than my original (from several years ago). Very light, yet very warm. I can use this as my primary winter jacket, yet find myself wearing it on the couch for hours after I forgot to take it off (it's so cozy). The insulated hood is cut to fit nice and close around the face, making it act warmer than even the PrimaLoft is probably rated for. Super light weight for adding to a bag when traveling or if you want to take it off to carry. Somewhat water resistent, but I add a hard shell over it when planning to be in the rain - which brings me to probably my favorite aspect, and the one that made me go back to this instead of a certain puffy jacket from another brand - the fit is slimmer and fits like it was custom made for me, without the hood being too tight when used or even when just zipped all the way up (which is another issue I had with you-know-who's puffy options). I am 6' 170 a large fits my athletic frame perfectly, but if you much taller or have abnormally long arms, the sleeves may be a tad short for your liking. I never had any problems with ripping or tearing, though I wouldn't pick this as my primary shell to hike through forests either. Exterior Napoleon pocket is endlessly useful. January 15, 2011
Great Jacket, Lightweight, Comfy Fits true to size. It's warm for how light it is. I climb so mobility and light weight are important. This is the second Redpoint Optimus I have bought if that tells you anything. Would recommend to anyone looking for a packable warm alternative to down. The hood is a nice feature. January 13, 2011
Great, but a bit short! This jacket is light but soft and VERY warm. I'm a 6'3", 135lb. male. The size medium jacket is a little shorter than I might like, but otherwise the fit is great (the sleeves were even long enough for me) and has gotten me many compliments. January 6, 2011
Zipper poor quality The coat is very light, but the zipper does not function properly. From the first time taking out of the bag, it has been catching at the bottom edge of the zipper start. It should work smoothly, considering the light weight of the jacket, and there is nothing to really snag the zipper. It is simply hard to start and undo the zipper. too bad, nice jacket otherwise. December 28, 2010
Great cold autumn jacket Bought this jacket looking for a warm jacket for a colder fall, mild spring without adding too much bulk to my outfit. Definitely accomplished this but if you are looking for something with more warmth for a cold cold chicago type winter might not be for you. December 20, 2010
Great jacket. Perfect for when the temp is to cold for a hoodie but a parka would be to much. Comfortable fit, sleevs are long enough for taller people (I'm 6'2"), and the hood fits comfortably around the face without chafing. Water resistant, and if the PrimaLoft One gets damp it stays warm and drys quick. Ive had mine for two years, I wear it all the time and its held up great. Its lost a little bit of warmth from the "down" being compressed from shoving it in my backpack over and over, but its still awesom. November 10, 2010
