Description

Great as a middle layer or as outerwear on calm, cold days, The North Face Scythe Jacket for men is an excellent choice for camping, hiking, climbing and mountaineering. The Polartec® Thermal Pro® Sherpa Fleece insulation is exceptionally lightweight and easy to pack. The only caveat to this plush fleece is that you'll need to verify that you have the space to accommodate this jacket in your backpack or travel bag. The North Face added stretch side panels to their Men's Scythe Jacket to help optimize your range of motion while skiing or climbing. While the Polartec® Thermal Pro® Sherpa Fleece fabric won't repel much water, the Scythe Jacket layers and insulates well beneath a waterproof and windproof shell. Unlike some jackets made by The North Face, the Men's Scythe Jacket is not Zip-in compatible, but it remains one of the most versatile and lightweight middle layers available on the market today.

I'm a very tall guy, so the first thing I appreciate about this jacket are the longer than normal sleeves. Fits great. Very warm and comfortable to wear.

Nice warm fleece
November 23, 2012

I was looking for a mid layer which provided warmth and wasn't too bulky. After researching this jacket and reading the reviews I decided to purchase it and take advantage of the free shipping to Afghanistan, where the winter was setting in. The jacket arrived in good time, Altrec were great at communication prior to delivering the jacket too, which made the transaction a pleasant and hassle free experience. The jacket is what I expected. Not really wind proof (hence the pragmatic description: "great...on clam days") but really warm and well fitted. As a reference, I am just over 6' tall with a medium build. I bought the Medium sized jacket and it is almost too perfect a fit, but the sleeves run long so I didn't want to overdo the size. The jacket fits nicely under my Gore Tex hard-shell and I am happy with the fit. The price was the cheapest I could find too so overall I am extremely pleased with this purchase from Altrec.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value

Nice lightweight jacket
December 15, 2009

Love this Polar Tech Thermal fleece. Probably would be a 5-star, however, the collar doesn't want to lay flat - ever. But, the super-soft fleece more than makes up for the collar issue.

Great jacket!

I got this jacket for my boyfriend for Christmas-looks great! Can't wait for him to open it!!!

looks good
March 10, 2010

but it lets all the warm air our under the arms and the side. It is a different material on those spots you cant see. I understand why they did it because it allows the the jacket to stretch. Very fitted, looks a little girly.

returned this item
November 14, 2012

the material and quality seemed very good, but size and fit were on the small/snug side. it would be great as a layer under something warmer, or alone for cool [not cold] weather. i had hoped to wear it as a fall/winter leisure/work jacket, but it was too snug to wear anything under it. i prefer looser fitting jackets.

Pros: Build quality, Cons: too snug for leisure wear

Great insulation
November 07, 2009

Good for using as a midlayer in winter conditions. It performs best with an outer layer shell. Lightweight and breathable. Sizing is not fit like other summit series products. Stretch side panels gives free mobility.

Returned it - it seemed to feminine for my son.
November 04, 2010

I bought this for my 17 yr old son. It was hard to tell from the photo - but it is furry...kind of plush. I knew there was no way my son would wear it. I'm sure it is warm and durable. But I returned it.

Exactly What I Wanted
November 05, 2012

6' 213 lbs. Average build. N. Texas climate. Hiking, Mountain Biking, and Camping are my activities. This Jacket / Fleece fits great. Plenty of room thanks to design but not bulky or baggy like some fleece. I have tried the Denali Fleece and The Pumori both from North Face This jacket is a perfect in between. It is lightweight enought to pack, and wear running around town on cool days. It also works well as a layering piece under a shell or larger jacket. Great Multi purpose fleece.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

Nice Feel
October 11, 2012

This jacket runs a bit on the large side and the sleeves are a bit long. The Green was a great color for me and it does a nice job of keeping you warm on a 30 degree day with little wind. I did have a slight problem with the zipper but am sending it back for the same jacket.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Cons: zipper sticky

Functional and stylish, all around great jacket
December 23, 2009

I bought this jacket for my husband and he and I both LOVE IT! The cut is very stylish with a slim fit and is very versatile. It looks great with shorts or pants. The fabric is soft and durable and warm enough for San Diego winters or Aspen spring/summers. An all around excellent buy, especially at this price!

excellent jacket
January 24, 2011

Very comfortable, well-made jacket. Wear around the house, without overheating, or out in the open. Good-sized chest pocket. Layers well. Fits nicely under my North Face Denali jacket. I particularly like the drawstrings around the hips, a useful feature.

Average, not worth the cost, no warmer than a 50 dollar jacket or hoodie. Money is going to brand not quality.

Another great North Face product
January 23, 2011

This lightweight jacket was purchased for "milder" west coast weather and/or insulation layer for skiing. The jacket is GREAT and comfortable and does the job when "breath-ability" is critical.

Great Purchase
December 12, 2011

It started out with my daughter getting a Northface. Before long every family member that saw her jacket wanted one too. Now my son, daughter in law, grandaughers, and even my 4 month old grandson has a Northface now.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Great fitting, warn and functional three-season garment.
February 23, 2010

On its maiden voyage to Maine's Saddleback Mountain, the Scythe performed fantastically. I wore it to and from the mountain with only a base-layer! When skiing, it fit perfectly under a Gore-tex shell and provided ample warmth. The fit was perfect. I really liked the collar, which allowed just enough room to bury my face behind on those slow double chair rides. The arms and body were roomy enough to acomodate a base-layer or shirt, but athletic enough to slide easily under a shell.

Excellent gift
October 18, 2011

This was a gift I received and it has been one of my most favorite gifts ever. I wear it for everyday use along with layering for colder weather. It's a very popular name brand that is backed up by even better quality. If you need a great gift item this is just that enjoy.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance

Husband did not like the fuzzy look of the jacket
March 17, 2010

I believe it looked less fuzzy in the picture but when it came, I knew immediately that it would not be a good match for my husband. The fuzzy look of the jacket actually lessened the rich look of the North Face jacket. We ended up returning it as a result. The quality was at the upper end but the look of the jacket is unique and a man would have to be involved in that decision to purchase, I believe.

Love this jacket!
January 21, 2010

I just received this jacket and I love it. My daughter already has this one, she wears it constantly, so I thought I would give it a try. Perfect lightweight jacket with great warmth. Arms run a little long, but that helps to keep hands warm.

Best Fleece Around
October 12, 2010

This has a great athletic fit and is very warm. Warmer than any fleece I own, although the TNF Flux Power Stretch I am almost has happy with. There is no wind protection, but this is one of the best layering pieces you can buy. It's not bulky at all. Very warm for it's weight. Works perfect under my North Face Kishtwar Jacket. Let me mention, the shipping was outstanding! VERY Fast. Highly recommend.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value, very warm, sharp looking, great for layering, Cons: none for the sale price

Very warm good for cold sking days under your goretex shell. North face products are the most durable for active wear. I like the pockets on the Scythe jacket.

Men's Scythe Jacket
September 16, 2012

I saw this jacket on sale at Altrec.com and they were way less expensive than anyone else, so I nabed it quick, the jacket is very well made and the sleeve length is long enough to accommodate a long sleeve shirt underneath. You can spend less for a fleece jacket, but Northface has the quality.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use
