I found the mid size to work best as they protect your ankles. They are true to size and light. I like them very much. I would reccomend these so far, however I have yet to try them in the mountains. Quality product!

I just received my second pair of North Face Ultra 105s. I like the higher model--it offers the kind of support I like being an older trail running. They handle mud and water well--it hot weather, they are a bit warm, but I've not been bothered by that. They dry quickly. I have a crooked lower leg from a long-ago ski racing accident, so I have specially-designed orthodics--they fit in the shoe with ease after removing the inner sole. I must run in shoes that are not worn, so I go through shoes quickly being a 5-times-a-week runner (about 45-60 minutes per session). These trail shoes have lasted longer than most. I also hike in these shoes... They're a bit pricey, but I'm sold on the shoe.

Shoes are very comfortable. No break in time. Waded creek, dry feet. Highly recomended. Order 1/2 size smaller than tennis shoe size. Excellent ankle support.
