Roll it up, stash it in your pack and forget it's even there – until an unexpected thunderstorm rolls in – and then you'll be stoked you brought The North Face Venture Jacket for men. Lightweight and ultra packable, this waterproof breathable jacket keeps your pack weight low and still protects you when conditions take a turn for the worse.
Made from an environmentally-friendly material that uses less petroleum in its make-up, this North Face rain shell should be treated carefully. While it is more durable than a poncho, it's not the best for everyday wear around town or out to your backyard to chop some wood. This is an unlined shell that leaves the superfluous extra features at home to shave off ounces. That being said, a few necessary features were built in, including an adjustable hood, a soft chin guard, Velcro cuffs to seal tight, pit zips to let out heat, and hand pockets for a place to stash gloves or a snack.
Treat it nicely and The North Face Men's Venture Jacket will be a favorite jacket in any season – and if you're lucky, it'll stay in your pack where it belongs.
Northface Venture rain jacket
February 24, 2011
This is my second Venture rain jacket from Northface and 6th jacket from their line up. I have been completely satisfied with all of their products and will always recommend them to anyone who wants a great quality jacket. I never spent over $50 for a jacket like this until one of my co workers told me about how he had his for over 5 years and it still looked great! You cannot go wrong with TheNorthFace...
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueJust what I was looking for.
March 14, 2011
I have been looking for a good light weight rain jacket. Ones I have had in the past have either leaked or trapped perspiration inside. Either way, I was miserable. This one uses good materials, has sealed seams, and pit zips. Perfect. My only minor complaint is the Velcro patches over the zipper can be annoying when they catch each other, or other clothes unexpectedly.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great valueBest in class performance
May 15, 2011
The waterproofing on this jacket is as good as the waterproofing on my fancy 30k waterproof ski jacket. It's very breathable, so I rarely have to open the pitzips even when I'm running or riding my bike - perfect for high aerobic activity during spring and summer downpours. One downside would be that the nylon material is the "tougher" kind that is not as soft to the touch as more expensive hardshells. I am a little peeved about the zipper pull tab on one of the pockets having fallen off only after its twice or third use, but this is a minor flaw that doesn't affect the overall performance of this jacket.

Nice Jacket!

I would strongly recommend this jacket to all my friend or family. This is my second one. My first one wore out after about 2 years. This purchase was worth my money.

Best Purchase
March 11, 2011
I bought this jacket to travel to southern Chile. I was in Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales. I combined it with a fleece. Excellent performance to wind and rain. It is a very light jacket. The black color was a excellent choice.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Great valueI finally got one...and what a bargain!
March 08, 2011
I considered getting this jacket about 10 years ago, when I saw what, I think, was the original version on sale on this very website. I deliberated and missed my opportunity, much to my dismay. Well, here I am again, and I nabbed one for about half the price of that earlier edition. This jacket has a laminate which prevents the inside from getting clammy, in lieu of the mesh lining in the previous one, which really simplifies things. I have been using a waterproof, but non-breathable, rain jacket for some time, which has suited me fine, but I've been wanting to upgrade to something more breathable and more durable. This fits the bill on both counts. While we're on the subject of fit, I think the sizing suits me better than similar jackets from, say, Marmot, which tends to run over-sized by my estimation—I'm 5'9, 150 lbs. This is big enough for additional layers, but not so much that it's sloppy. The problem with the aforementioned over-sized Marmot is that, if I size down, then it runs too short. Like Goldilocks said, "This is just right." This isn't a heavy-duty Gore-Tex jacket, but I suspect it's going to be more breathable and it seems to be plenty waterproof—it's seam-sealed. It feels durable enough for my needs—now, I wouldn't take it rock climbing. Mine's a nice monochrome navy blue, which will work well for both outdoor adventures and everyday use, and would not be too sporty for nicer occasions. It has the amenities of a quality piece of rain gear: a brim, which is nice for bespectacled folk like myself, and pit zips for venting. This jacket has, since, received an additional update, but the only differences I can see, are some changes in color options and the use of plant-based—instead of petroleum-based—products in the waterproof-breathable membrane. There is a favorable review of the updated model in the March 2011 issue of Backpacker, which seems to indicate that it and this previous edition are comparable in performance and quality. Happy camping!
quality purchase
March 23, 2011
I purchased this jacket for my husband to wear alone or over his North Face Denali Jacket. He is 6' tall and 200 pounds and the xlarge jacket works for him. He likes the fact that it zips under the arms for temp comfort and a little more room across his back for comfort when layering. I have ordered several items from Altrec and once again the have delivered great customer service.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valuePerfect for a rainy day
February 28, 2011
Runs a little bit larger than softshell jacket. I wear Large for North face softshell jackets, but the large size venture jacket is a little bit too big for me. I am 5 foot 10 inch tall. Medium fits better, but a little bit tight. The jacket only reaches to waist, I hop it is a little longer to cover my hips.

This is my first North Face
March 26, 2011
I received this Jacket today, and i was very happy. This is first North face product for me. I have been ordered The North Face at other site but product delviered to me was not fit and colar was not that i wnated. So I returned. But this Jacket's shape is very nice and very easy to carry. 1. Hood is very nice and easy to adjust. 2. Blcak colar is very fashionable 3. Sleeve adjust is very nice and easy to adjust and good finising.

Great Quality
December 07, 2012
Purchased for my son. He loves the jacket--it looks great and came just when we had a very rainy day--came in handy. Great product and was on sale so the price was great too.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Great valueGreat lightweight shell!
March 04, 2011
I was looking for a lightweight shell that I could take with me backpacking, which means it needs to be easily packable and lightweight. This shell fits those 2 roles perfectly. It is also perfect for layering with a base layer and / or fleece. Wearing nothing other than a lightweight synthetic top, this jacket was also able to keep me very warm and in 45 degree f weather while on a walk around town. I would highly recommend this shell to anyone looking for a shell for their layering system, or just a lightweight wind / rain jacket. Only gripe is that I wish it was compatible with zip in liners, but really thats not a deal breaker for me.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueMen's NF Rain jacket

I bought the women's and love it. My husband liked mine so much that I got one for him as well. His is a perfect fit. I got him the XL, he's 6'3 and medium build. Will go great if he layers for the extra cool rainy days.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityFebruary 24, 2011
Solid jacket! It has a very boxy fit to it, but the draw strings help give it a more custom look. I am 6', 180 and the large fits me perfect. The sleeves are the perfect length - they are long enough with a little slack. Will buy another one soon!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, great fit!, very stylishGreat Jacket!
March 07, 2011
I've been looking for a lightweight rain jacket for quite some time now... The Venture Jacket by The North Face was the answer. The jacket fit true to size and I felt confident about not getting wet during this year's rain season. I especially like the draw string design of the hood and waist. A nice additional feature is the hood visor which kept the rain off my glasses! Another were the pit vents that kept me cool while running. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great quality rain jacket. A+

Nice Light Waterproof Jacket ever
February 25, 2011
I had this jacket at the perfect timing since rain comes all over the city of Seattle. 1.This product is light, but keep you dry very well. 2. There is extra a side-pocket with zip on both side.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGood rain proof jacket
November 27, 2012
If you're looking for a rain jacket, this one is for you! Completely water-proof and fairly wind-proof and very comfortable. I would not recommend using this during the winter (unless you layer) as it basically does not protect against the cold at all. Besides that, however, this is a great, comfortable jacket and well worth the price!
Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: no cold protectionNorth Face Venture Jacket

I received the order promptly and used it right away. It was pouring here in the Mid_Atlantic and the jacket was superb. It kepy me fully dry; it's extremely lightweight and durable. This is my third North Face Jacket, and like the others, it is superb quality product. I will always continue to pruchase North Face.

I purchased this jacket as my water-proof shell at one favorite price,I had to say that my initial decision was correct,it was lightweight and comfortable, and further the sizing will allow me to wear a fleece jacket to warm myself up
Good raincoat
March 14, 2012
This jacket is well made with excellent rain protection. However, I like to have a jacket with an inner pocket, which is missing, and I like to have a more comfortable inner shell. If I wear a short sleeve shirt inside, it is not really comfortable.
Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: Cost, add inner pocket, improve inner shellAlready own the The North Face Venture Jacket? Tell us your thoughts.
Good Quality, But Pricey For It's Name
June 30, 2011
It is just like any other rain jacket, except it has the "The North Face" logo on it which automatically makes it pricey. I won't lie, I bought it because it is North Face.. and so did others. It isn't worth the money because it is very thin.. but it gets the job done.. and it is "The North Face" which is always classy.
Great Jacket, Great Price!
November 20, 2011
This is a great jacket. My teenage son wore in on a three day and night excursion. We felt good about it being rainproof and reliable. It arrived quickly and has been used on several other hikes in various conditions. We would recommend this product and website to others.
Little Large
January 18, 2012
Nice for rainy conditions. Runs a little big. I am 5'11, 185 lbs, fit, with broad shoulders/chest. I got a large but was very roomy in the chest/belly area. I got a medium in the summit series and it fit perfectly. Getting a medium for this one as well. This definitely seems great in the rain. Too thin for winter months though.
Worth the Wait
September 30, 2011
I was having a hard time deciding on which rain jacket I would buy this year. I wanted one that would have underarm zips and a well fitting hood that the wind couldn't blow off. I eventually got this Venture jacket from the North Face and LOVE IT. The sad thing: so did my family so I had to buy two for my sons and one for my wife! Great jacket. VERY comfortable and doesn't feel stuffy/sticky: breaths well. Hood has adjustments in front AND back for the perfect fit. Highly recommended.

Better than Expected!
August 23, 2011
This jacket is better that I expected in terms of size and functionality. I'm 6'1, 200 pounds and the large size fit me perfectly. The rain protection it offers is incredible compared to other brands I've had in the past. I've taken this jacket on a 50 mile hike through Washington's wilderness and it kept me dry despite 3 days of constant rain. It breathes better than most rain jackets and is comfortable to wear. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys hiking or lives in a rainy state and wants to stay dry.
Great Light Weight Rain Jacket
January 15, 2012
Brought this for my older and younger brothers and they love it! My younger brother runs track and it keeps him dry during his cross-country meets and during his daily jogs. I also own one and would recommend it because it's the best rain jacket by far. The quality is up to par, but that's as expected from North Face.

Great jacket! I just throw it in the bag for the commute from the train station. I'm 6' and the L size fits nicely. Super fast shipping and a great deal. Customer service was very quick to answer my questions!

Good rain coat for the price
April 10, 2011
This is an excellent coat for the price. You can easily spend twice as much on a Patagonia or Columbia. This is just what I needed to replace my old rain jacket. This jacket is light and can be folded and stuffed into any bag. I keep mine in my Camelbak for biking and fishing. Also the underarm zippers are a nice addition on hot days.

Great raincoat
January 17, 2012
I bought this jacket to use as a raincoat, but ended up using it more as a windbreaker! Very stylish jacket, I even wear it to work in cool weather along with my khakis and button-down shirts. The jacket is super light and totally water-proof.

I got this jacket to use on rainy days and it works perfectly! It is lightweight, compact, and provides ultimate protection. The design of the jacket makes it light enough to wear in thewarmer weather as well.
Pros: Ease of use, Great valueGreat Waterproof Jacket
February 27, 2011
Great jacket, seems pretty waterproof for now. I took it in the shower for about 15 minutes and it kept me dry. However, this jacket is pretty chilly in the cold. I was out steelhead fishing the other day and the wind didn't actually cut through the jacket, but rather made the material of the jacket very cold. Its kind of hard to explain. I would say its a great jacket for temperatures above 40F. Anything below that would probably be better suited by softshell jacket.

There isn't much to be said after all the other reviews but I would like to address a few things. The cost for this jacket is very normal for a jacket of this caliber. The technology used isn't something you'd find in a lower priced competitor's jacket, such as the lining matrix being imprinted within the shell. And the fitting for this seems to be just right. When purchasing a rain jacket, I usually go for a standard fit since you'll want it to fit over your other layers in colder weather. As for warmer weather, the fit will leave space for better ventilation. A win-win situation. The only somewhat negative aspect is the packing into its own pocket. The bundle gets a bit stiff but nothing a little compression won't fix. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. It's a great hard shell and versatile enough for all 4 seasons and environments. Also, at first glance the Venture and Resolve jackets look very similar and have similar technologies. In a nutshell, Venture is more for technical use and is lighter, whereas the Resolve is more for urban lifestyle, heavier, and has a removable hood. Hope this helps in your decision.

Best rain jacket i have ever purchased! Great for spring showers and anything else in between. Put a layer on underneath it and it keeps your pretty warm. If you're looking for a solid rain jacket, look no further.

I purchased this jacket for rain protection on the trail; however, recently I needed a good jacket to protect me from 32° weather during a recent 5K race. This jacket exceeded my expectations. It not only protected me from the wind, but the pit vents prevented me from getting too hot during my run -- a very nice feature. If the need arose, I would buy this jacket again. Great jacket!

7.5 ft tall I am. Medium size was fit perfectly. It is so useful when I ride bike and hiking. It is so light and small so I just put this jacket in my back pack. It is useful for wind protection and rainy day, but it could not keep warm and it is chilly.
Exactly what I was looking for
August 18, 2011
This jacket fits and wears just like I was hoping it would. It is a very light jacket so it is great for the summer and mine has a little extra foom so I can easily wear a light fleece during the upcoming fall months. The North Face makes great products and this holds true doing what it was designed to do at a great price from Altrec.com.

This rain jacket packs up very small and is perfect for packing in small daypacks. The bill keeps it shape and works great in heavy rainfall. The adjustable cuffs and long length of the jacket are also great features. Really Solid Jacket
April 25, 2013
The Men's Venture Jacket fit the bill for what I was looking for - a lightweight rain-proof outer shell that I would wear a sweater or jacket under without being confined. So, that said, its fit runs a little large compared to a standard jacket. I'm 5'8" and 145lbs, and the Small fits pretty perfectly. It held up for about 45 minutes in a very constant light rain, and I ran through a heavy downpour for about 5 minutes. Both times, I was perfectly dry on the torso and surprised at how wet my legs were by comparison. I will say that I've had to fight with the hood a little. The adjusting elastic cord was finicky, causing the hood to loosen and become too big the first time I wore it out, which just covered by eyes and was obnoxious. I had to hold the hood in place by hand. I think I've gotten it sorted out by rearranging how it sat in its pocket, but I won't trust it completely for awhile. I do like the adjustable hood. It fits over my helmet with no problem, and aside from the first issue, it fits my non-helmet'd head fine. My girlfriend has the previous version of this jacket, and after about 5 years, the lining on the inside is coming off near the shoulders, which has affected the waterproofing somewhat, but there have been no tears due to snags or anything else. The jacket also blocks wind nicely, so even with a light layer on underneath, it feels noticeably warmer on windy days. And the pit zips help a ton when it's warmer out. It's also not audibly "swishy" if you know what I mean. It's not silent like a softshell, but not loud.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: weird hood adjustmentLove this jacket!

These jackets are definately the top of the line! They are the most comfortable wind/rain jacket that I have ever worn. I plan on purchasing an additional one as well. You will be 100% satisfied with this jacket!

If you are looking for a new rain coat that looks great but protects you from the rain look no further. The hood is one of the best features of this coat, it keeps all wind and rain out of your face. It fits a little short, I wish it was a bit longer in length. But water literally bounces off the material. You can dry the coat in 5 second just by shaking it. Pretty cool. I am a college student in Seattle and this is perfect for my daily commutes.

February 14, 2011
This is my second time I've purchased this shell.. First one got lost in a drunken stupor. Fits great, completely cuts wind and rain, and retains heat when worn with a second layer (sweater or hoodie), My only gripe about the last one I had was that about a year and a half into the jacket the inside lining of the hood flaked off.. We'll see what happens this time around. Very happy with my purchase overall.

I finally upgraded from my old plastic-y raincoat to this jacket and it's a huge difference. The inside surface stays nice and dry and I don't feel sticky, even when active in this jacket. Pit zips also help if youre heatimg up under it. It runs a little large, but that's intended so that you can layer under this. I'm 6' 3", 180 lbs and I picked a large, which is necessary for the right arm length, in particular. I believe my arm length in dress shirts is usually 34.5" or so. I got it in the dark blue and it's suitable for work or play.

Great Rain/Wind Jacket
October 21, 2011
I'm 5'9" with a slim build. I ordered the Deep Blue color Venture Jacket. I ordered a Small and I think it fits perfectly for my build. So far, I've loved the design and fit of the jacket. Wore it in a light storm already and loved how it protected me from the rain. I'm looking forward to wearing for the autumn here in the Northeast. I would recommend this jacket for anyone who wants some kind of light rain jacket and wind breaker.

This is a great rain jacket! Very lightweight and cool. Nice size pockets and a billed hood. Fits a little big but not way off size. I have the black one and like it.
Awesome

This jacket is great. The water just beads off like a freshly waxed car. It doesn't get wet. You can shake it off like an umbrella and then it is dry. Nice looking and comfy. Add a fleece underneath if it is cold, just wear it as is if it isn't cold out.
Great Coat
February 16, 2011
I purchased this coat for my fiance for Valentines day and he absolutely loves it! He fishes in alot of bass tournaments and he said that it would be perfect for cool mornings or rainy days. It so lightweight and comfortable, anyone would enjoy!

Nice jacket.. not long though
May 12, 2011
This is truly a JACKET. It's not very long. Otherwise it does a great job... just not going to wear it over my sportcoat for work any time soon. As a jacket, it's quite waterproof and fits well.

Most Impressive
September 30, 2011
I took this jacket to Russia for a lot of wandering around and also for working outside in all sorts of weather conditions. It kept me totally, utterly, completely dry during some remarkably heavy Russian rain storms, it offered a good layer of protection from urban wind, and whenever I'd pop inside, a quick unzip of the vents kept my body temperature just right. It can also fold up and get quite compact for stuffing in your backpack. At 5'7" and thin, I often get 'small' and still find it a bit roomy, however I think this jacket fits true to size. I was really impressed with how this jacket held up, having had rain gear from other manufacturers, I found this jacket exceeded my expectations.

Typical North Face quality, can't go wrong with any of their products! Broke it in this weekend hiking in northern NH. Cool and rainy but was totally comfortable, highly recomended. Bribed my wife with one so she would hike with me, it worked!
Great Rain Jacket
October 11, 2011
I'm 5'11 160lbs and a Large fits with enough room for a sweatshirt underneath but it's great. I've stood in pouring rain for over an hour and when I take the jacket off I'm completely dry. It doesn't breath well but it's understandable for a hard shell. Overall it's a must have rain jacket. Highly recommended.
Best in class performance
Pros: Great value, Cons: zipper puller fell offWrite a review for the The North Face Venture Jacket here.

I bought this when it was on sale and it was a great purchase. It is hurricane proof. I would definitely purchase another North Face product. I always thought they were overpriced but the quality speaks for itself.

Great bang for your buck

just purchased in time for many rainy Colorado hikes. bush-whacked through branches and thorns with no signs of wear. very durable. shell is a stiff material but I'm sure it will loosen over time. i love that it retains no warmth. great for layering or warm weather. it also packs very small.

Great Rainjacket
March 11, 2011
I already owned one of these jackets, but I saw the low price advertised on Altrec's website and I picked up another one. I plan to use exclusively for camping/backpacking trips and the other for everyday use when it rains. The older version does not have the pit-zips, which is a great feature of the newer jacket I purchased. This jacket has worked well thus far at keeping the water out. I have not used it extensively in the backcountry, but I am sure it will perform admirably based on my previous use of North Face products. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase and it was at a great price!

I love this jacket! It rained here in maryland for 3 days straight. I wore this jacket and never got wet once. I ordered the jacket and was here in 4 days, just in time for the bad weather. Thank you north face for another great product and altrec for great customer service! The jacket is true to size and fits great, it was 80 degrees and rainy and the breathabke material kept me cool and dry. Thanks again!

My husband owns a similar rain jacket from North Face and has used it for many years. I ordered this one as a Christmas present, but the color bolt blue is more of a purple than a blue. May have to exchange it for another color.
Pros: Great designMarch 18, 2012
great jacket haven't experienced a hurricane yet but should keep you dry in all rain conditions, wish it came in a tall size and a little snug in the shoulders for me too .
