Vostok--good if you have thin ankle area
January 28, 2013
The vostok looks to be a well engineered and thought out boot. The problem is that the top is a straight tube, without any gusseting to allow an angle of entry. Unfortunately, the tapering tube of my leg has a bulge called the heel. If your feet are narrow in terms of the distance between your heel and the top of your foot, this boot could be the one for you. But I couldn't get them on, tried shoehorns, shoe-funnels (piece of slippery pvc to slide that heel in) to no avail. Liked them enough I even called North Face to find out if there was a special technique. No. So imagine the ski boot--but without much available in a front tongue movement. If that's no problem for you, go for these. If getting your foot into the average skiboot is a real chore for you, look at a pair with a different upper configuration. I've used Vasque, Raichle, Hi-Tech, standard size out-of-the-box no problem. I can point my foot so that from the knee to the toe it's a fairly straight line. Altrec people very helpful in the order, shipment was regular but came within a few days.Pros: designed for cold slushy winters, Cons: only for those with a small diameter ankle area

I bought this boot in fall with the anticipation of winter weather and was so excited to get it I had to put them on even though it was 50 degrees outside. Lets just say anything over 40 degrees your feet will sweat that is how warm these are. I live in buffalo NY so now it is winter they are more than adequate for the cold weather and snow. They slip on and off with ease and if you have had boots that take you ten minutes to tie up like me, are a real pain these are god sent. It takes me 30 seconds to put both on!! Tread is awesome and super tacky. I wasn't crazy about the top zip line so snow doesn't get in the boot. But now after using them I will never buy another boot with out the zip line on top. In short they are awesome so light you feel like they are shoes. Also they go perfect with a pair of jeans over them. Though the price might deter you, save up and get them. They are worth twice as much in my opinion.Pros: awesome, super tacky traction, fashionable, warm and will make you sweat, light weight, snow and ice eaters, comfortable, Cons: none

I received the boots quickly, which is always a plus, plus, especially considering I cut the order close to when I am about to leave for the German snow. The boots are great! They look great, they FEEL great, and they move great. I can't be happier. I've tried on about ten different pairs of boots... The most important thing is that I do not wear leather. These boots are 100% leatherless. In comparison with all the other non-animal skin snow boots I have tried and looked at, these come out on top - with price, looks, and so far seeming durability and warmth. The great test will come in a couple weeks in the German snow. I already recommend these for fellow vegans, or anyone who wants a good pair of boots.Pros: easy to lace up nice and tight, comfortable, 100% synthetic, warm, maneuverability, awesome looking
