Sizing ChartThe North Face Slingshot Backpack
At a glance the Slingshot doesn't look any wider or longer than the similarly sized Jester, Sweeper and Vault day packs from The North Face--and it isn't. The reason that the Slingshot offers more space is that it has over two inches of extra expandable width along the sides, giving it a carrying capacity of 2,000 cubic inches instead of the standard 1,850. The North Face also attached side compression straps to the front trampoline system so you can cinch down that extra width when you don't need it. All that extra load potential and control adds an additional five ounces to this pack compared to the slightly smaller designs, but you're not going to notice a difference when you're hauling around eighteen credits worth of reading material. If you're staying late at the office or library, the Slingshot also has plenty of reflective elements, so you have a better chance of being seen by passing motorists (or your workaholic boss).

I had a hard time figuring what Northface backpack I wanted for College, I found this to be the best backpack for its price and is not to big, I love it and will never get another.

I bought this backpack for college. I'm very impressed with the amount of space it has. I can fit two huge biology books and five 1" binders in my backpack without a problem. The straps are also very comfortable. The great padding keeps the straps from digging into my shoulders. I definitely recommend this backpack.

This backpack is spacious and roomy. It has enough compartments to make organization easy. The straps and back portion are well padded, which adds to the comfort.

This has been a really great pack! I use it for school and can get a lot in there! My first one had a defect in it, and the altrec customer service department was awesome! I received a new one in just a few days and the return of the old one was prepaid(mail)! Overall, this has been my favorite backpack that I have owned, and I strongly recommed it!

If you want a small bag that is durable and has a lot of carrying potential the slingshot is the bag for you. Its is not bulky but yet has a lot of space to store things in it. I am hapy with my purchase

Don - 2006-10-28Spacious pack for work, school, and trails
I used to be a big fan of the LL Bean backpacks, but I'm slowly becoming a North Face pack fan. The water bottle holders (2) are great for daytime. The pockets are huge to carry books, gear, etc. If I had one issue it's that this pack doesn't have a bottom pocket for shoes, workout gear, but then again that's not what I primarily bought it for. Excellent back support and solid weight distribution, I don't feel any wear or pain from lugging a full pack around. I haven't had a chance to use this during rain or snow conditions, so I can't comment on weatherproof-ness of this, but I hope it stands up. Bottom line, good pack for everyday use, and for the price compared to the other North Face packs, probably the best overall value.

this is a great backpack overall. it has a generous main pocket for plenty of books and binders, and has a large second compartment with an underrated organization pocket. the water bottle holders are convenient, and the back padding is great. the bungee system is overrated, but still comes in handy to hold a sweatshirt, raincoat, etc. i would recommend buying it and altrec did a wonderful job getting it to me.

Plenty of room for books, the front compartment makes it easy to organize everything too. At first it felt a little bulky and stiff, but i got used to it. I like it a lot.

The North Face Slingshot is great. This is my first time owning a North Face product and now I can see why they are one of the top companies in the Outdoor product market. North Face has put a lot of effort to ensure the slingshot can handle extreme wear and tear along with comfort and functionality. I would definitely buy a North Face product again.

I bought this pack to haul my books around campus, it seams to be of pretty goood quality and is a very nice pack for this purpose. I'm not an avid hiker, yet, so I can't comment on its use for that purpose, but if your looking for a nice daypack, I think this pack is very nice for that purpose. It has a second pouch for a calculator, pens, and etc. It could use a few more compartments but the main compartment is very roomy and the second compartment goes the length of the pack allowing room many small items.

This is the largest bookbag style daypack, and it holds a ton of stuff. The 33 litre capacity should get you through the day with room to spare.

I got this backpack when I got tired enough of my Jansport single-strap backpack, because I ride my bike to school and my Jansport had a habit of sliding around to one side and throwing me off balance. Well, deciding not to let my backpack cause an unfortunate accident, I looked for a good backpack that could also hold my helmet and lo and behold I found the Slingshot. This is my first experience with The North Face, although I've heard of them for many years, and I don't think this'll be the last time I buy their products. Primo good!

I've had this backpack for about two years and used it both for hiking in Peru and on campus. It has held up well and is nice and roomy. I have two problems with it though, first that you can't unhook one shoulder and swing it around to access things in the smaller compartment (like keys or a wallet). You have to take the whole thing off and then awkwardly hold it while you search for whatever you need. Which brings me to my second complaint, which is that things tend to fall out of the smaller compartments into the depths of the front pocket.

I love my black slingshot... it's really roomy, and fits all of my school stuff, even my lunchbox, sweatshirt, etc. Plus, it has a really low profile so I don't look like a dork when I'm walking around between classes. The only problem is that sometimes when I'm walking really close to an open door or something, the elastic string thing gets caught on it and I fall over. But that's probably my fault anyway. ;)

The Slingshot Daypack is all it was advertised as: roomy, light, good reflective accents, heavy zippers and other closures. The only thing I found wrong with it was it's lack of good waterproofing/repellancy. It collected about an eighth of an inch of water in the main compartment and the smaller compartment also showed signs of water entry in a hard, driving rain. I'm proceeding to do additional waterproofing with Nikwax products ordered from Altrec.com.

This pack is great for a days worth of school books or a weekend getaway. I would not take it on a day hike as the shoulder straps need more cushioning as does the back panel. For day hikes, I would recommend the Borealis.

Very nice back pack. Good and roomy for books and will be perfect for me at college. It got a 4 because the zippers don't seem to be great. It might just need to be broken in. I would reccommend to purchase this backpack.

So, I purchased the north face slingshot backpack to replace my $150.00 Oakley Icon that wasn't worth a $1.50 but it looked cool. Any way I put the sling shot through the paces and it passed every test I had for it. So why a 9 out of 10 and not a 10, well it's because I wish there was a little more length on the straps. You see I lift weights and my arms and shoulders are a little bulky but the sligshot still fits even over my plushest winter coat (Nike ACG Urban Survival Snorkel). Looking for a daypack? you will be hard pressed to find one better than the North Face sling Shot.

The bag is very roomy. The small pocket is a little too big I think and the zipper is a little stiff but overall it's a great bag and I would buy again.

this pack was great for the first year, being in school and all but the down side is that i have had for 2 years and the handle is already breaking off, and there is not enough pockets to help me stay organized. It was great while it lasted and it would be great for a person that was a tailor and very organized
