Description

You hear the wind whistling past your building and you barely want to open your eyes knowing you have to walk to the subway in gale force winds. But wait, you remember you have the down comforter like warmth of The North Face Women's Metropolis Parka, and suddenly you can't wait to get your toast and coffee going. TNF wraps you in head to knee coziness with premium 600 fill down and lightweight, smooth fabric that wears well and slides on easily over sweaters. The light color options have a DWR finish that resists moisture so you can walk in a light drizzle or a heavy fog without worrying about getting damp. An insulated, adjustable hood helps retain body heat or you can snap it off and leave it at home when you wear this down parka with a cute hat instead.

Zip this long down jacket all the way up, the chinguard is lined with soft fabric to prevent chaffing. The zipper is backed by an outside flap that snaps closed for double protection from bone-chilling breezes and it zips in 2 directions for convenience and style options. Stash your iPod in the internal media pocket with head phone port so you can zone out on the train ride to work and tuck your hands into the 2 front zippered pockets to keep them toasty. Highly fashionable, The North Face Metropolis Parka for women will keep you warm and toasty in the big cold city while others cower under the covers.

My favorite winter coat
January 22, 2011

I live in cold winters and was looking for a down coat that was longer than a jacket, warm and comfortable without the bulk of down. This coat fit all my expectations. I like that the hood is removable for just running errands, movies, dinner out etc. The fit was true to size, I ordered the large and that is usually what I wear. I get lots of compliments on this coat. Well worth the extra money!!! Service from Altrec is always great.

new coat!
February 24, 2011

I have seen the Women's North Face Metropolis Parka worn by many women this winter. I really liked the way it looked. When the coat arrived at my house, I tried it on. I was not as happy with it as I expected. Since it is a puffy coat, I expected it to look a little big. I ordered an extra small. I am 5'3 and I weigh 110 lbs and I usually wear a small or extra small but it fits like a medium. The coat is thinner than i thought so it is not extremely warm. I like it but if I knew this before I bought it, I would not have spent as much!

Dress Up Parka
January 29, 2012

This parka is so lightweight and stylish I can easily travel with it without the bulk and weight of a typical winter coat. The best feature is that it is nice enough to take on business trips and look professional while staying warm. Great buy... it does run small however. I typically wear a Small (size 6) and got a Medium.... good move on my part as a Small would be too snug for my comfort.

I am a size 2-4 and the xs fits great. I would say if I got a small it would have been too big. Very stylish, warm and great quality! It is lightweight, but at the same time very warm. Definitely not bulky. Love it!

Got one for my mom, getting one for myself!
January 29, 2012

I love this jacket. It's light, super comfortable, and flattering to the body. I got one for my mom this winter, and she wears it everyday. I tried it on, too, and I loved it so much that I'm ordering one for myself! I got my mom a grey one, but I'm getting myself the purple color. I think it's a perfect jacket to wear it outdoors, and even to work! I definitely recommend this jacket!

Great coat
February 24, 2011

This is my first North Face and I am very pleased with the quality. It is lightweight, warm, water resistant. I like the twill tape that backs up the snaps to make them more stable. I also like the hood that stays snapped on and zip pocket inside. I am 6' tall and it comes to just below my knees. I wear a size 14 in jackets and this fits great--although it is none too big in an XL. The sleeves are plenty long for me. I can wear a light sweater or fleece under it, but haven't needed to layer too much, as this coat is very warm. I'm hoping it will last for a long time as it is pricey.

Great parka but not as warm as I expected.
July 19, 2012

This is a great parka--comfortable, flattering--I love it! I tried three other down parkas and this was by far the best design. That said, I thought I'd never be cold with it on and I do need to layer with it even in low 30s. I ordered my regular size and can easily fit a sweater under it. It is very lightweight and so comfortable that I could happily sleep in mine. It does leak a few feathers but it hasn't been a problem so far. All around, it's a really nice parka!

Northfacegal

February 25, 2011

Living in New England, warmth is important and this Northface coat provides just that. The length is perfect and fit is true to size. I wear x-small for tops and small for bottoms so I odered the size small coat and it fits perfect.... there is enough room for sweater for very cold days. The hood has adjustable elastic cord that allows hood "hug" face for windy days. There is also a two way zipper that can be unzipped at bottom for sitting, it would be nice if there were side zippers as well. The coat can be either casual or dressy. Overall, I love this coat and would recommend it! On side note, I had never ordered from Altrec before and was very happy with how quickly the coat was shipped. Would definitely order from Altrec again.

Comfy and Light
February 20, 2012

Atlhough the winter has been mild there have been a few cold and windy days. This parka is light enough to wear in mild temperatures and warm enough to stand up to chill winds and cold. The length is good- provides good cover but does not restrict movement. The color is dark enough to look sharp in-between laundering. The sleeves are long enough for those who want cover down past the wrists. The hood and collar are comfortable. The best feature is the warmth without being so heavy that the parka weighs you down. The light weight also makes it easy to move around while wearing. Overall a very good choice for a winter coat over sweaters and other winter attire.

I absolutely love this coat! I got it in eggplant and the color is gorgeous. It's also very warm... even wearing it in windy winter weather, I don't feel any cold come in through the coat. It's not big and bulky like most winter coats, which is also a big plus! I'm 5'6" tall and weigh 140 lbs. I bought a medium & it fits perfectly.

Amazing Investment
December 28, 2011

North Faces as you all know are quite the investment, however, by calling it an investment, it implies that it has a great outcome given North Face's extended durability to last years without ripping or such. It is an absolutely GREAT jacket perfect for areas where it snows heavily to keep you protected from both snow and the blistering cold. It is a great investment at a great price at altrec.com

North Face Metropolis Jacket
March 01, 2012

As a big North Face fan, I hesitate in providing an Average rating. The L coat I received was sized smaller than usual and must return - the one I tried on in a 'brick and mortar' store fit better - aha! For those considering the Graphite - it is a matte gray. Again, I have had good experience with North Face products in the past, maybe this one was just a fluke.

great purchase
December 12, 2011

I am very happy with this purchase. I went with this coat because I wanted a longer coat that wasn't too long. My other Northface coat has lasted for almost 9 years and I was looking for the same durability. I got the graphite gray color and it's very nice- not too dark at all. I have worn it it the rain and it is water proof so that I stayed dry and the jacket wasn't soaked either. I have seen a couple of the feathers come out but other than that it's of great quality. It does fit a bit large, but I like that so I can wear a sweater underneath if I want to. I am 5'2" and usually wear a small shirt and I got the small size in this coat. The arm length is fine and it's just roomy enough to wear a sweater. This is a great investment.

I love this coat. It's a little larger than I thought the medium would be, but I love it and there's room for sweaters if I want to wear them. I rode a bicycle in it the other day during a strong rain and it kept me warm and dry. I didn't expect it to be water proof, and it was!

Good coat
January 23, 2011

I've enjoyed this coat so far. I tried on a lot of different brands with a similar style and warmth and like this one the best. It is tailored enough so I don't feel like a marshmallow but its not too tight fitting either. I live in Minnesota so it's nice I can layer under the coat and still have the sleeves fit. I've also found it to be warm. I walked the dog when it was 0 and I was comfortable with a t-shirt and fleece under the coat. I would purchase this coat again and recommend it to friends.

Great Coat
February 15, 2011

After enduring two snowy and very cold winters in DC, I finally caved in and bought this coat based on the positive reviews I read. I was looking for something that I could wear daily, that fit me well, kept me warm, and could endure precipitation. All in all, I am satisfied but I wish I would have gone to a store to check out this coat first before buying it online. I am 5'3 and weigh 115lbs, and the Small in swamp green was HUGE. Two of me could have fit in there and there still would have been some room. I exchanged it for a bittersweet brown in an X-small, and love it. It fits perfect. I can wear my north face fleece and another sweater under it and not look bulky at all. The wind whips right through it, so these extra layers are still needed unfortunately. But it's very comfortable, flattering, with a hood that doesn't quite stay on your head. It falls right before my knees which is a perfect length for walking to and from work daily. I was very surprised by how light it was when I took it out of the box, feels like a light rain parka. It's great that it's not bulky but I wish it were a bit thicker. The feathers are starting to poke out, but hopefully that won't be an issue. All in all, great coat and I look forward to having it in my possession.

I love this coat. Can wear with just a t-shirt in below freezing Michigan temps and stay toasty warm. Only negative is that b/c the coat is long, the zipper can be hard to line up just perfectly in order to zip smoothly. I considered returning it but seem to have gotten the knack.

Long arms!
March 19, 2011

I am 5'11" and have trouble finding coats long enough for my arms. I bought this in a large, and the sleeves are perfect. It's a little big in the body for me, but it's worth it to have my arms fully covered. For that reason I wish there was a cinch waist, but I am still very happy with the coat without.

Great product. Best to insulate with an under-layer in addition to the parka for added warmth against the satin-like inside layer. Good length to protect from the wind as well as slightly overside hood. Only draw back is the arm length seems a bit short...

Warm, but lightweight parka!
March 04, 2013

I purchased this parka and the Arctic down Parka by TNF because I wasn't sure which one to get. They both were great, but in the end I chose the Metropolis. It is so lightweight, but keeps me very warm! I use this for errands, shoveling and being outside with my boys. The Arctic down parka was also very warm (probably better for subzero climates) but felt heavier. The only downside is the zipper can be a bit of a pain because it sticks. It hasn't made much of a difference though.

I received this parka for Christmas and love it. I was ready to finally own a quality, warm jacket for winter. I received the eggplant color and it is a really nice shade of purple. By far this parka by North Face is the most comfortable, warm and well-fitting "coat" for the winter weather. It must be the the #1 coat/parka of the year. Warm even in single digit temperatures
February 06, 2011

Just purchased this coat and am very pleased. I just moved to a wintery locale in Indiana where there is a ton of snow and weather in the single digits for what appears to be months at a time. I was reluctant to spend so much and kept hoping to find something as warm, lightweight, and attractive for less money. I couldn't. The blue color is very pretty and a nice change for all the black coats I see all around me.

heavenly fit, tricky zipper start
April 24, 2012

This coat is fabulously warm, incredibly light and fits beautifully. Sometimes mediums are a little tight in chest for me. This one is fine. Only problem is zipper; doesn't always want to connect. Easier to connect while coat is on the hanger than when on self, which is a bit of a disappointment. For comfort, would wear it 24 hrs/day and sleep in it. (The fit, warmth and water-protectcion sliders would not work for me. I would rate this as very, very warm, yet breathable.)

Easier to connect while coat is on the hanger than when on self, which is a bit of a disappointment. For comfort, would wear it 24 hrs/day and sleep in it. (The fit, warmth and water-protectcion sliders would not work for me. I would rate this as very, very warm, yet breathable.)

Pros: incredibly comfortable, Cons: zipper

Great Jacket
January 26, 2011

Really love my North Face Metropolis jacket. Fits true to size. I ordered a size small and I'm 5'7", 120 lbs. Fits perfect and I am able to layer underneath, if necessary. Like having the option of the detachable hood. Color is moonlight ivory, which I expected to be whiter. It has a hint of silver to it. I do think the North Face products are a bit overpriced. Since this is my first North Face product, the performance remains to be seen.

i recently purchased the Northface metropolis and I couldnt be happier. The fit and length were perfect. I do a lot of driving so I really needed a light weight coat while sitting for an extended period of time and this was perfect. This coat is a great length. I feel comfortable wearing this coat both in a professional environment as well as for everyday errands. Though the coat is very warm, the material is thin and doesn't feel bulky. I can comfortable wear the coat in the car while driving for long periods of time and it doesn't feel bulky. North face products are expensive, but the quality is wonderful. I will buy this winter coat many times over.

This is one of the best coats I have ever owned. Being in ice rinks most of the time watching my son play I stay warm and comfy! When traveling this coat is lightweight and not bulky. great parka
March 14, 2011

This is a very nice parka. It is stylish and doesn't look puffy. I'm a size 6 and ordered both a small and a medium to see the better fit. The small fit and the arms were long enough, but I felt like my pear shape was a little snug on the bottom half of the coat. The medium is definitely more roomy on my thighs. I like the way the hood can be removed and you can completely hide the connecting snaps. It gives the coat a sleeker look. The interior pocket is nice if I just want to run out with my ID and cash and leave my purse behind. I also think the artic blue color is really pretty.

Great Jacket
February 02, 2011

I love this jacket. The only thing to be careful about is the sizing. I am usually a medium or even large (I'm tall and lanky) but I needed a small for this jacket. I am 5'9" if that helps you size yourself. The jacket is comfortable, looks cute, and definitely keeps me warm. Worth the money!

Great Jacket!
January 28, 2011

This jacket is incredibly comfortable and warm. I am from Minnesota and it is the perfect cold-weather coat. It keeps me nice and dry. I really like the zipper pockets for your hands and the super soft fleece lining helps warm up numb fingers quickly. The zipper pocket on the inside of the coat is a great spot for an ipod or a wallet. Unlike some other down jackets, the lining of this one does not leak feathers. It has a very slim fit for a down jacket and does not look puffy and is not a bulky jacket at all. The quality is superb (typical of items from The North Face)! I would definitely recommend it!

Works for Me
February 04, 2011

This is my first Metropolis Parka. Living in the Midwest we need warm coats! I wore it in the recent blizzard and it protected me well. Having said that, please note that layering under the parka is essential. I wear a size 8 dress and although the medium has plenty of room for me, I do layer. I don't feel like a puff-ball, just warm and comfortable. My daughter has worn one for years and swears by it.

Like the coat very much, as I had to purchase the XXL it is great around shoulders but a tad tight in hips when zipped. The black has a slimming effect which I like.

It feels like a blanket is wrapped around you even in a blizzard! I purchased this jacket in an xs. I'm 5'2" 105 lbs and it fits very well. love this coat...it hits me right at mid thigh, I can still run in it and sit in it without getting choked and it is very warm!!! The hood is also great. It's small enough that it doesn't blow off on a windy day and you can see peripherally. The only down side to the hood is the noise level, you do hear the swish against it as your walking but it's not so bad that you wouldn't hear someone talking to you.

North Faces as you all know are quite the investment, however, by calling it an investment, it implies that it has a great outcome given North Face's extended durability to last years without ripping or such. I thought this jacket was nice, but I was really looking for something longer (to my calves) and a little warmer for my commute. I traded this for the Triple C jacket, which is perfect for me. Light and Warm
November 19, 2011

I ordered this parka because it looked warm and comfy. I especially like the length -- it falls just above the knee and keeps my seat thighs warm. The fabric is soft, the parka is very light and comfortable, and best of all -- the cut of this particular parka allows for freedom of movement while being flattering and non-bulky. I was concerned that the sleeves lack an inner cuff, but the sleeves are tapered well and a little longer than those of most parkas I own; this keeps my wrists warm and reduces cold air flow up the sleeve. I haven't had a chance to wear this parka in extreme cold or wet conditions, but I suspect it will be very warm with a light to mid-weight layer underneath. The sizing seems true. I normally wear size S but ordered a M to allow for extra layering. The M is a bit large (as expected), but it still looks great despite the extra roominess. There was a light drizzle today, and the water droplets beaded up on the nylon surface. I don't expect this parka to stay dry in a downpour, but it would be fine for misty rain or light snow. On the other hand, I might be surprised!
