This North Face convertible pants is everything I expected. I have several pair of another North Face Paramount. But the zip off pants on this pair is a bit longer...and perfect! So perfect, that I ordered a second pair 10 days later!
Pros: Great design, Build qualityCool Convertibles
May 16, 2012
The WomenÂ’s North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pant exceeded my expectations for hiking/backpacking. I was concerned about the lower-set waistband but the pants stayed up by tightening the inside drawstring. The waist closed with two easy snap closures-thankfully no buttons. The size 12 long fit perfectly and felt very comfortable while hiking with no restriction or binding for my 5'4" 135# frame. There are 6 large mesh pockets for your stuff. Zipping the bottoms back on was easy with color-coded right/left zipper pulls. The pedal pushers stayed rolled-up well. The nylon faille fabric repelled moisture, shed grim and dirt, and kept the chill at bay. On a hot, humid August hike in the Mississippi Homochitta National Forest, when others had sweat-stained bottoms, the Paramount Peaks did not get damp. Sweat evaporated and was not absorbed. The Paramount Peaks have a UPF 30 rating and are not as soft as polyester, but at 15.5 ounces with double-stitched seams, they are tough and durable on the trail.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, lower waistband fits smooth under backpackGreat pait of pants

These pants feel good but I have reservations in terms of the fit. I'm 5'7" and 150 pounds. In order to get a good fit in the waist, I needed a size 14; the waist in the size 14 was just huge on me. The style is great, they feel comfortable. I like the idea that the pants can be converted into Capri and shorts, and I like the inseam and where the shorts would fall when you converted them. I am getting size 12. Perhaps a size smaller will fit better.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceGreat pants for outdoors
April 13, 2012
These pants are great so far. I've used them as pants and capris. Waiting for warmer weather to use as shorts. Great for biking and hiking. They don't bind or ride. The wicking properties work great. I typically wear size 4-6 and got the 6. They fit just right, definitely couldn't go smaller. I'm 5'10 and the tall is perfect. Would definitely recommend.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useNice Fit
April 12, 2012
I am 5'2", size 6 and ordered a 6 short. They fit perfect. They do shrink a bit after washing. I love the length of the short and the pants sit below the waist. I gave the pants 4 stars because the velcro on back two pockets come undone when stretching in any direction.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, cute fitLoved hiking in the Grand Canyon...
April 01, 2012
I am 5'4", 115 lbs and ordered the size 2 regular Northface Paramount Peak Convertible Pants for a spring break trip hiking in the Grand Canyon. I found that the fit was good for my body type though they could have been slightly smaller in the hip area. Still the pants served to be very comfortable and perfect for long hikes through the terrain. The pants were a little long but were perfect when worn with ankle supporting hiking boots. The zip off bottoms feature was a very welcome feature when the temperature started to rise in the middle of the day. Overall, these pants were a great investment and served their purpose and even more.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueRight size, comfortable pants
March 15, 2012
The size is just right for me for purchasing 'short'. Usually, I have to alter the length when I puchase pants, but this one is fine. It is also feel comfortable and easy to move. A good choice.
Pros: Great valueNot that great
March 06, 2012
I ordered these in a 2, but I definitely should have paid more attention to the other reviews -- they were too small. But, in addition to being a little smaller than I would've liked, they were not a comfortable cut. I also found the shorts (upon zip-off) to be a bit longer than I had expected in this style.
Pros: Build quality, Great valueMarch 05, 2012
Love these pants! This is the second pair I purchased for myself and I also bought a pair for my daughter. We do a lot of hiking and these are my favorite by far. They are great for a chilly morning start and also when things heat up in the afternoon.
Wish they came in bigger sizes
February 24, 2012
I got these to wear on vacation. Bought in size 16 in Beige, because that is the largest they had. I do like them, but they are a little tight in the stomach area. Wish I could have bought an 18, but I am hoping to lose some weight before we leave. I do plan to wear them because I like them a lot. I am also going to buy the Aspalt Grey. It will be nice to have pants on cool mornings, then shorts in the afternoon when it gets hot.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valuehiking pants
February 19, 2012
I am 5'10'' and these pants fit perfect. I love the comfort of the material for hiking. Zip off to shorts is big bonus!! The price was better on line than most stores I visited. More colors available too.
Not impressed
December 26, 2011
I was excited to find "long" North Face convertible pants. I have a pair and had been searching for more. I ordered 6 Long just like my other paramount pants. These were cut totally different. The legs were tight and the side pockets gapped open. I was very disappointed so I researched further to find out what the difference is. Come to find out my other North Face pants were Paramount Porter Convertible pants not Paramount Peak. The paramount peak is tigher in the thighs and the pockets are side slant pockets rather than front pockets. I personally like the old style much better and after reading numerous reviews it sounds like others may agree. Sizing up probably wont't make a difference because the waist is fine; the problem is the hlp and thighs. Fabric and weight is the same and is good quality. North Face please bring back the Paramount Porter Convertible Pants.
Pros: Build qualityTo tight
December 05, 2011
Order a 14 long as previous reviews showed that the sizing was off I usually take a 12 long. Disappointed when I received them that they were still to small. Quality of pants very good. Will reorder to see if a 16 long is a better fit.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityParamount Peak Women's Convertible pants
November 22, 2011
I love the quality of the Paramount series - I own 2 Paramount Valley pairs of pants in 12 Short. However, the fit of the Paramount Peak runs smaller around the middle and just won't work on my 5'4" 145 lb body.
Great purchase
November 12, 2011
I researched a lot of pants before purchasing these. I think they are very good quality and very well made. I am 5'4" and 117 lbs. Most walking pants are too long for me. I ordered these in a size 6, short and it is the right size and length. They are loose, but that is good for walking, plus they have the tie at the waist to tighten them. If they were about an inch longer, it would be perfect, but the regular length would be too long for me. They are fairly attractive on, as some of the other reviews mentioned. I wear them for walking pants or shorts and I particularly like the fact that they have enough pockets to put my keys, phone, and i.d. info. The fact that they are convertible is a big bonus. I wore them the other day and decided it was warm enough to wear shorts -- so I just unzipped the bottoms and off I went. As the other viewers said, these zippers are color coded so it is easier to put back together than the earlier styles. I got 2 pairs and am glad that I did!!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, very versatilePoor fit
August 23, 2011
I ordered a size up on these pants but they were still too small. I love the versatility the pants offer , if only they were sized better. I like the pants so much I am re-ordering another two sizes large than my normal fit.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceAugust 18, 2011
I recently returned from a hiking trip and was extremely happy with these pants. They are super comfortable but unlike some other pants I have tried on they also look really good - flattering and stylish. For me the size was slightly big, not drastically so, but I am often between 4 and 6 so I ended up with the smaller one. I got a long and a regular would have been fine - I think the long is quite long. My only reason for giving them 4 stars and not 5 is that the front pockets, and the leg pockets, could be bigger. I had a hard time stuffing a folded-up map in the leg pocket. Not a deal breaker, though.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityas always....
August 12, 2011
looking for fit my size(5ft tall) but i can't find one. so i ordered one size bigger one but it worked. i love this style because when i wear it moving and running, even walking isn't bother anymore. as always wear this one...need to another one. you must try this one. this is the answer!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value3 in 1

My hubby and I have recently been doing more hiking and backpacking and are planning a multi-day trip. I bought these pants because they are so versatile: pants, capris, or shorts. They zip to shorts easily with an extra small cord at the belt loops to hold them. The legs are color coded at the zipper for easy on and off. Plenty of easy to use pockets. I like the velcro pockets on the rear. There is also an internal drawstring at the waist, which I found helpful. I am between sizes in The North Face. A 10 is too tight in the thighs and a 12 is a bit loose in the waist. (Normally I am a size 10 in most pants.) Overall the 12 is the better choice for me. I gave the quality 4 out of 5 because the seams at the waist where it buttons scratch just the tiniest bit. Otherwise a perfect pant and I'll continue to enjoy using.
Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great valueJuly 04, 2011
These pants are great and also protects against UV. The design is great, you just need one pair of pants for all of your activities throughout the day no matter how the weather changes. Fits small to size, i am usually a 4 but had to get a pair of 6s.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityVery convenient pants!
June 17, 2011
I bought these pants because I found their design is great. You have 3 pants in 1, you have several pockets with different sizes, so that make these pants very convenient for different activities (for outdoor activities because there are very comfortable and to travel when you need to carry many things in your pockets and also maybe you start your day early when is cold and later get hot, etc.). I have several The North Face products and I found that all of them have a very good quality and durability. I usually use size 0/xs, but I fit them before to buy on line in some store and I realized I need size 2.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGreat Pants!!!
June 14, 2011
These are great, versatile pants. I have yet to take the legs off to wear them as shorts. They are SO comfortable. I will most likely be buying them in another color. I have received lots of compliments on them as well. However, just like 99 percent of the reviews said - buy one size larger -- totally true so that is what I did and am happy b/c they fit great. Strange though that such a popular pair of pants & brand would run so small
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueFits Small
May 28, 2011
I usually wear a size 2 and sometimes a size 4. I had to go up to a size 6 in these. Tried them on first at the store then ordered the color I wanted off of here. Still, very excited to get out and test these in the field. The 6 fit great and look great, I'm sure they will perform even better.
Pros: Performance, Ease of useEven I like them
May 09, 2011
I am not one to wear outdoor clothes. I'm more of a fashion kind of girl. However, due to a trip to Asia, I needed to stock up on some more practical attire. I was resistant to buying pants that zip off into shorts and have lots of pockets. I was pleasantly surprised at how well these fit. They are cute and are really comfy. I don't think I will be wearing them on any hot dates, but I am not embarrassed to be seem in them. Quite the contrary, I think they are pretty cool! Who knew practical could look goo too?!
Pros: Great design, Performance, comfy, cuteNice pants but not for me
April 28, 2011
I was excited to get these pants but the fit just didn't work out for me. Other reviews did say that the sizing was off so I ordered a size larger but to no avail. The fabric and construction of the pants felt nice and the transition from pants to shorts is easy. It's too bad I had to return them.
Pros: Build quality, Ease of useApril 28, 2011
Great cutting, looks slim and cool in it. The pant surface seems "waterproof". Accidentally poured some water onto the pants and when I quickly brush it off, the pant stays dry. Very comfortable.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useNice Pants
April 26, 2011
I wore these pants during a recent trip to Machu Picchu and Iguazu Falls and they were very comfortable and held up very well! I love how you can wear these pants three different ways: capri's, shorts and pants.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceNice pants but get a size larger
April 13, 2011
I really love the convertible feature of these pants - long and short pants all in one - and the different colored zippers so that you can quickly reassemble zipped off legs. They are really wonderful pants except that the sizing is off. Be sure and order one size larger and you should be okay.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of usegreat product, runs small
April 10, 2011
usually i find that reputable brand hiking pants fit larger than what size i normally wear, but these are an exception. i'm usually a 4/5 pant size and had to get a 6 in this brand. i fit into a 4 but the material these pants are made of isn't very stretchy, so i would recommend going a size up if you're looking to use these for serious outdoor adventure and not just casual pants.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valueHigh Quality Purchase
April 02, 2011
I bought these pants for a hike in the Smoky Mountains, and they were great! They are of stellar quality - they kept moisture out and kept me warm. These pants are great for hiking up mountains or on flat ground, because they are flexible and durable. One con of these pants was that I could not put anything in the front pockets without the items rubbing uncomfortably against my legs. I had read some other reviews stating that the pants are tight in the hips, but mine were actually loose. I am only 5' tall, but I have longer legs and a short torso for my height. I thought a size 2 regular would work, since my hips are wide, but the size 2 regular actually hung low on my hips and was about 2 inches too long. I wish I would have gotten a size 0. I step on the bottom of the size 2 pants, even in hiking boots, but the good thing is that they are very durable and can withstand it. Although they are a little big on me, I wouldn't return them, because I love them!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great valuecomfortable
February 21, 2011
These pants were for my daughter, and she especially pointed out that the zipper seams were sewed in a way that feels very comfortable on the skin, unlike often the contrary on other products. She was very happy about the product overall.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGreat Convertible Pants!
February 14, 2011
After years of searching for the perfect convertible pants, I think I’ve finally found them! I am 5’4’’ and have been struggling to find zip-off pants that weren’t too long. These are the perfect length for wear with hiking shoes, or flip flops. The shorts fall about 1’’ above my knee, and the roll-up ¾ length option is great too. I have a slight build, and these pants also fit just right on my waist and hips. The material is relatively thick, so they may not be perfect in very hot and humid conditions, but overall, just what I’ve been looking for!
Comfortable and durable pants!
January 19, 2011
These pants are so comfortable and durable. I purchased a pair 3 months ago, and I just recently ordered one from Altrec in a different color. I went hiking with them last month and they kept me warm. The pants are constructed well and good material was used. The seams remain well intact. I agree with others regarding the sizing. I usually wear a 10/12, but I had to purchase a 14 because the waist/abdominal area was too small in a size 12. I am 5'5", and I ordered a short length and this was perfect for me. I hope this review helps!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueNovember 05, 2010
This pant is perfect for hiking. It is comfortable and durable. Worth the money!
Pros: Great design, PerformancePerfect backpack pant
October 16, 2010
Love all the options these pants provide with choices in leg length. Fabric is tough and durable yet dries quickly if you need to wash 'em out on a multi-day trip. They are that new low -waist style that feels a little funny at first, and they run a size small. I've gotten used to the fit and actually like it now. Getting another pair in a different color.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGreat pants
October 06, 2010
I was very pleased with the pant. The construction is of the highest quality. I am took advantage of the live chat session and the person I talked with helped me select this particular pant. They seemed to be well educated and assisted me finding the right pant for my upcoming mountain hike.I definitely would order the same pant again.
Pros: Build qualityGreat fit and very well made
October 01, 2010
I love the fact that the pants come in various lengths! Being 5'6'' and being cursed with a long torso and short legs, I always have to get my pants tailored. These pants fit very well, but the size seems to run a little small - I generally wear a 6 or 8 in pants and I had to buy 10. The material is a little scratchy and I would have liked just a little more stretch. Looking forward to winter camping and hiking in these!
Great fit hiking pants !
September 29, 2010
I have been looking for that great pair of hiking pants for a long time and finally found them ! Nice thick material and great fit. I have wide hips and these pants are a great cut for my body shape. The grey color is awesome !
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of useGreat quality!
August 17, 2010
Great pant, nice thick material (but not hot) -- seems like it will last a long time! They were slightly tight so I need to get a size bigger (wear size 8) but the length for a shortie like me was perfect. Most pants like these are not built with this strong of a material.
run v.v. small, cut straight from waist to thigh.
August 07, 2010
I wear a 12/14 in most pants. Ordered these in an 18 and they were still too small in hip/thigh area. Returned.
