Surprisingly Light, Go-To Piece
May 15, 2011

I bought this piece as a running jacket, but it's quickly becoming a staple for all my outdoor adventures. The first plus: it's surprisingly light and compact. It fits nicely into a very small running pack for long trail runs, and doesn't add much weight if you end up stashing it. On that note, I can't believe how warm the jacket is, despite the weight (or lack of). The waterproofing lives up to its promises, although I wouldn't say this jacket is windproof. It is vented, so don't expect to block out every gust. A few minor details that would make the piece perfect: I wish it had a larger pocket in the back to stash dry gloves or a lightweight hat. It would also be nice if the jacket could fold into itself for transportation, but it does not. Just some minor details to consider if those things are important to you. Otherwise, great color, nice fit, good design. I would recommend it if you want a versatile, lightweight piece that will keep you warm.

Pros: Great design, Performance, great colors

It is a gift for my wife...
November 23, 2010

I haven't given it to her yet, but since no one else has seen one, here goes. It is REALLY light. I couldn't believe it when I felt it. I have other North Face winter jackets, but nothing like this guy. It is VERY waterproof. That is what "Hyvent" means when you are talking about North Face jackets. This was the only "Running" jacket I could find for her rainy/winter training coming up. It will likely require some insulation layer, like an Under Armour's Cold Gear shirt when it is really cold (below 38F). It looks like it will hold in much more heat than the North Face Swift Jacket. The material on the collar is very soft, and shouldn't irritate her face at all. It is very wind resistant, much more than the Swift. I bought that at first, because it is water resistant. This jacket is waterPROOF. I wanted to find, something that can handle a medium to heavy rain and medium to high winds. The swift looks like the wind will blow through the arms as it wicks the moisture away and freezes the runner in low temps (<38F). I would guess that jacket is better for temps between 48-55 degrees F. If it had a hood, I would 5/5 for water resistance, but It doesn't and I didn't want it to have one. Overall, I'm kind of jealous of this jacket. I am her running partner, and she now has much better cold weather running gear than I do. I will try and update the review when she gets it, so people know if it fits well, and wears well.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: don't know yet
