Nice Coat, but...
August 16, 2013

This is a really nice coat but for the price, I expected higher quality fabric. I have several TNF coats and this is probably the cheapest feeling one I have. It's warm and comfortable but the material is thin and the down fill is rather light. I'm still planning on keeping it but now I know, future reference.

Pros: Ease of use, comfortable, soft, warm, Cons: Low performance, poor material choice, price vs. quality

good buy
January 14, 2011

I purchased this coat for my daughter. She wanted something light and warm. She is usually a size 0 and we ordered up to a size small which is perfect. There is plenty of room for a sweater with the size small. It is not a bulky coat and is comfortable when she dirves and is warm for New England winters. We tried the xsmall in the store and it fit her well but decided to go a size larger, so glad we did and it doesn't look oversized at all. If she went with the xs, it would probably be too tight or not as comfortable with a sweater underneath. She's 5'4" and is 100 lbs. Hope this helps

Warmest investment ever!
February 09, 2012

I've been eyeballing sales and colors of the thunder jacket since 2010! i finally stumbled on a good deal through altrec.com in my size and a desirable color w/ their famous online deals; live in Beaverton so i make a midnight purchase and get it the day after, SO fast. This jacket is versatile, fits flattering, you can layer a short/long sleeve tee, or an athletic zip up long sleeve jacket and the thunder jacket still doesn't look tight on. i'm a down fan b/c i love it's layering techniques where the down always moves accordingly when your layering but still evenly warms you. now i must admit i'm not the slimmest medium out there, 170lbs and 5ft8 and have LONGER than normal arms, and this medium seems to curve me really well and doesn't look tight at all-feels roomy but not baggy; sleeve length measurement starting from the underneath of the arm by the armpit is 23in, so it goes midway down my hand yay! it's so soft i tend to want to be so careful of things snagging b/c of it's true silky feeling, but i'm playfully rough with my dog, hiking, backpacking, biking, kayaking, and running around everywhere and this jacket is solid. the idea of packing itself into its hand pocket is a great touch! love that the left pocket inside has like a tnf logo loop string so that once packed in it can be clipped to a bag of some sort so long as you have like a carabiner. i ordered the kokomo green and was just stressing out that it was going to be too bright for me as i waited for it in the mail, lol. but once i received it i was so pleased that it's actually a beautiful DARK emerald kinda green. still much like the green shown in this pix but like a deeper shade darker. if you have a balance ball, the Giam 65cm ball set they offer as a green ball, is actually identical to the kokomo color. i always wear black so that's why i was hesitant.

North Face women's thunder jacket
July 17, 2011

I've had this north face's thunder jacket for some time now and in my opinion it's great. It's comfortable and is lightweight and because of that is easy to carry. It has a beautiful design and it's elegant and feminine. Acording to the size chart, I chose size S acording to it's measures and it suits me perfectly. I'm about 1.63 m height and my weight near the 56 kg. I LOVE THIS JACKET! The only negative thing that I noticed is that some feathers from the jacket went out. But that's the only detail. Great product.

Great Jacket but too big - had to send it back
March 27, 2013

I was so excited to get this jacket in silver but unfortunately medium was too big. I'm 5"4 145lbs. I have broad shoulders, reasonable chest and skinny waist but unless i put two layers on underneath it was huge. Arms were too long by itself. I guess it is up to the individual how many layers you will be wearing but if you just want to wear it by itself and get a nice shape beware of the size.

Thin But Nice
November 16, 2012

When we received this coat, it seemed very flimsy and light. However, my daughter loves it. It's not too puffy and keeps the chill off...and it's stylish to boot. It's not as warm as my Nuptse jacket, but it can easily be worn under another coat if it gets frigid.

Scored points with my wife
November 06, 2011

I bought this down jacket as a gift for my wife. She loves it. She loves the light weight, almost wearing no jacket at all feel--yet is very warm. She is small and gets cold easily--so she wears this jacket anytime the temperature drops below 55 degrees. She also loves the look of the jacket--she can wear it with almost anything casual. It does not look or feel bulky--yet still keeps her warm even in the very cold. She has had it now for almost a year and it still looks great. I scored some serious points with this purchase!

Now, if it would just get cold!
January 02, 2012

I'd been eying the Thunder jacket for quite a while and decided to go for it. It's very lightweight, yet warm. The fit is good...I'm 5'4, 105 lbs. and ordered the extra small. The blue color is exceptional. I can't really comment on the durability because I've only had it for a few weeks. I love it most for travel because it can be scrunched into a tiny space and not add weight at the airport. Our weather has been very mild this winter, so the jacket has been perfect for the 40-50 degrees we've had.

A must-have mid-layer. This is the lightest, most comfortable jacket I have ever owned. I even wear it inside instead of a fleece. It is warm and I wear it alot on its own. But once it gets below mid-20s....you'll need to use it as a mid-layer. I wear it underneath my ski jacket when I ski, and most of the time I am roasting. I'm 5'4'' usually a size 4, and the small fits great.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, figure-flattering

Great for travel and warm as toast but never makes you hot.

For once, a puffy jacket that isn't puffy! I bought XS, sizing was perfect. The black sheen, contoured fit and cinch cord adjustment all made jacket flattering. It is surprisingly light and is definitely a mid-layer; I get cold very easily and, if I don't have a lot of layers on underneath, would feel more comfortable wearing this jacket in 30 deg or above. It is a short jacket -- hits right at top of hips -- but it's practical, portable and attractive. A fun wear!

Lovely jacket, but not warm.

Best Winter Jacket
October 16, 2011

I have had this jacket for a few seasons now and it is my favorite thing to wear in the winter. It's extremely light-weight yet very warm. I wear it under my boarding jacket and it keeps me the perfect temp. And I wear it alone throughout the winter. It's also a really flattering fit- and the arms are long! I bought a small, and I'm 5'8". Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

I got this jacket for my girlfriend for valentines day. I have a small mailbox and I laughed that the mailman was able to deliver it by shoving it into the small box. Jacket is perfect for fall and spring. Very compact. Ecellent purple color especially since she is a huge ravens fan! Excellent price and shipping. 50 dollars cheaper than sug retail.

This jacket has a lot going for it and overall great style. The problem I ran into was that it runs big and and there are no shoulder seems which gives a bulky look. I returned it wishing it that it had a litle more structure. Love everything else though.

Love My Jacket!
September 11, 2011

I love my jacket! It's so warm, soft, and it does not make me look like a football player! You would never believe that a jacket so light and thin would be so warm, no wonder athletes wear it all the time. I totally recommend this jacket!

Women's thunder jacket

Bought this coat for my wife as a Christmas gift. Due to her working outside in the Chicago cold she needs a warm coat. She loves the light weight and warmth of the northface thunder jacket.

Jacket is nice and warm. Thinner than the NF Nuptse jackets, but feels warmer. Not too bulky. These jackets last a really long time, wash mine often and still looks new.

Excellent Choice

I am always so cold, and I live in the South. This jacket is extraordinarily light, but keeps me so warm. It is also very fashionable. So many people give me positive feedback on it and ask where they can get one.

Love it!
January 20, 2010

I tried one on at a local store early in the season and loved it. It's so lightweight and soft, you don't realize you have one on. Sadly though, I didn't buy it and when I got this one at Altrec, its a little tight. I'm not sure why but possibly one was the 08 version and this one the 09. It upset me to return it but would recommend it to anyone! If it fits you, it's an absolutely beautiful coat and from everything I read, its also warm.

Great Jacket
January 14, 2010

Beautifully crafted and just the right weight to wear under a shell when hiking, snow shoeing, skiing on a cold day or alone on a warmer one

Beautiful...functional

This jacket is so light weight I didn't think it was included in the shipping package! LOVE it. It is warm, comfortable, and stylish with no bulk.

Love the weight, color and warmth!
March 14, 2010

Overall this is a great down sweater becasue of the 800 fill. Very light weight. If I would change two things it would be the length of the sleeves (too long) and perhaps make it a little looser around the hip area.

GREAT PURCHASE!!!
December 26, 2009

This jacket is great! It is very warm, light weight and goes great with everything (I bought it in black). I live in the midwest so are winters are bad, this jacket will definitely keep me nice and warm. Also, as soon as I received mine in the mail...my husband ordered the same one in mens! That's how nice this jacket is.

Women's Thunder Down Jacket by The North Face
January 02, 2013

Absolutely worth the Money. I bought this for my wife, after I was told she "needed" it. She was all set to order the exact same jacket at a mall store for 100$ more!. Ordered it from Altrec, it arrived 2 days later, at no extra cost, and it looks fantastic. Size small fit is perfect for a small lady. Jacket fits like a petite. The black color is a really deep black with a shine to it that looks amazing.

Pros: Great value

Northface Thunder
February 07, 2010

I got this jacket as a gift for Christmas. Less than one month later, I have 4 holes in it and the down is pouring out of it. All of this is due to a day of sledding in Maine with the kids. This is unacceptable to me in an active wear coat that is touted as "Built to endure extremes of weather and terrain, Summit Series® products deliver the highest level of performance from base camp to summit." This is my first and only North Face product. I will not spend money on their stuff again. Further, when I returned to the shop to discuss repair options, the shopkeep who helped me confessed that the same had happened to his daughter with her Thunder (again, less than a month after purchase). He stated that the coat is a piece of %$#@. For the prices they charge, Northface ought to be ashamed. Certainly, this coat would not withstand a summit of any mountain if it couldn't withstand a trip to the sledding hill with kiddies. Do not waste your money.

Great Women's Jacket!

Great Down Jacket
December 21, 2011

My Girlfriend is tall (5'8 and thin) and she has a hard time finding clothes that are long enough for her legs and arms. I have found that climbing gear- pants, shirts and jackets- fit her best and this jacket is perfect. All of the Summit Series gear is "Alpine Fit" and has a slim fit and long cut in the arms for climbing and moving. This really is a beautiful jacket- and it is warm. Very warm. My girlfriend wears this every day to work, the pub, skiing and it packs down small (in its own pocket) so she takes it with us to the gym or snowshoeing to put on after a workout. On more thing I would like to mention is that I wear all the summit series gear also. The durability and performance of this clothing collection is amazing. Top of the line gear from north face- and because of the alpine fit it looks amazing also.

A great travel jacket
March 07, 2011

This super feather weight jacket is amazingly warm for its class. It is very easy to travel with as it can be easily rolled up and thrown in a bag or purse--taking up relatively little space. Also, the weight is virtually undetectable on the body or around the waist and won't weight you down while you are on the go. The sporty bright navy color is plus.

December 19, 2012

This jacket is excellent quality, super lightweight and extremely warm. I bought a Medium (5'7", 130 lbs) and it fits perfectly, with just enough room for a couple base layers. The downward "stripes" of the stiching allows for a flattering fit. I chose this down because it was an amazing sale price, and I wanted a down jacket that didn't look too fluffy. This fit the bill! The black goes with everything and packs down into the pocket. Staple for my pacific northwest wardrobe.

Amazing
June 11, 2011

I can't stress how much I loved this jacket through the cold winters in Colorado. It was super lightweight, extremely comfortable and very warm! I didn't believe it would be possible that something so thin and light would really keep me so cozy warm. The fit is attractive and it seemed true to size to me. I am 5'8", thin and purchased a large. I have no complaints about this jacket and I would highly recommend!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
