nice but big

This jacket has a lot going for it and overall great style. The problem I ran into was that it runs big and and there are no shoulder seems which gives a bulky look. I returned it wishing it that it had a litle more structure. Love everything else though.
Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of useLove the weight, color and warmth!

Overall this is a great down sweater becasue of the 800 fill. Very light weight. If I would change two things it would be the length of the sleeves (too long) and perhaps make it a little looser around the hip area.

For once, a puffy jacket that isn't puffy! I bought XS, sizing was perfect. The black sheen, contoured fit and cinch cord adjustment all made jacket flattering. It is surprisingly light and is definitely a mid-layer; I get cold very easily and, if I don't have a lot of layers on underneath, would feel more comfortable wearing this jacket in 30 deg or above. It is a short jacket -- hits right at top of hips -- but it's practical, portable and attractive. A fun wear!

I bought this jacket for my wife and she absolutely loves it. I also have the men's version of this jacket. Extremely light and warm. Easy to pack and compressible. We have owned other down jackets none comes close to the comfort and warm. I would definitively recommend this jacket!

I love this jacket! It is so light you don't even realize you are wearing it, yet keeps you warm and toasty on those cold days. I would definitely recommend!

This jacket is light yet super warm. I live in Durango, CO and use it from day to night with fluctuating temp ranges and it is great. True to size fit. Loved it so much I bought the vest!

I got this jacket as a gift for Christmas. Less than one month later, I have 4 holes in it and the down is pouring out of it. All of this is due to a day of sledding in Maine with the kids. This is unacceptable to me in an active wear coat that is touted as "Built to endure extremes of weather and terrain, Summit Series® products deliver the highest level of performance from base camp to summit." This is my first and only North Face product. I will not spend money on their stuff again. Further, when I returned to the shop to discuss repair options, the shopkeep who helped me confessed that the same had happened to his daughter with her Thunder (again, less than a month after purchase). He stated that the coat is a piece of %$#@. For the prices they charge, Northface ought to be ashamed. Certainly, this coat would not withstand a summit of any mountain if it couldn't withstand a trip to the sledding hill with kiddies. Do not waste your money.

I love this jacket. I bought one for my husband for Christmas, and he loved his so much, I bought myself one in woman's. It is extremely warm and I plan to wear it on my upcoming ski vacation in Breckenridge, Colorado.

I bought one to wear under my shell to ski in bitter Vermont. I love it! The jacket is very light weight but extremely warm. My daughter has one too.

I wanted a down jacket and my husband bought me this jacket for xmas. I really love it because it is so light and very warm. Great for those cold days watching the boys Nordic racing!

Bought one jacket and enjoyed it so much I bought another one. It looks smart and is good for chilly weather but not for freezing temps. The fit is accurate not too small nor too large.

I tried one on at a local store early in the season and loved it. It's so lightweight and soft, you don't realize you have one on. Sadly though, I didn't buy it and when I got this one at Altrec, its a little tight. I'm not sure why but possibly one was the 08 version and this one the 09. It upset me to return it but would recommend it to anyone! If it fits you, it's an absolutely beautiful coat and from everything I read, its also warm.

I am always so cold, and I live in the South. This jacket is extraordinarily light, but keeps me so warm. It is also very fashionable. So many people give me positive feedback on it and ask where they can get one.

great jacket. incredibly light weight but very warm. the jacket is short - so if you're in the market for something that is longer, don't go this route. very sharp looking.

This jacket is great! It is very warm, light weight and goes great with everything (I bought it in black). I live in the midwest so are winters are bad, this jacket will definitely keep me nice and warm. Also, as soon as I received mine in the mail...my husband ordered the same one in mens! That's how nice this jacket is.

I bought one of these for my daughter last year and have wanted one ever since. We just got back from a trip to Antarctica where several women bought another brand on the ship costing $100 more and had a shorter waist length. Love love love this lightweight coat. Great for travel and warm as toast but never makes you hot.

This jacket is awesome!! Very lightweight,stylish,and very warm. I would probably recommend going up a size, feels kind of snug in the shoulder area and I'm pretty small. I usually wear a small in the fleeces and purchased a medium in this jacket and may have even ordered a large because of the shoulder room!! I don't think it is true to size. I'm 5"6 and 130lbs.

I tried the grey one but it has too much sheen. The length was good but the upper-arm area was too big & bulky and looked strange. I really wanted to like this jacket, but it just wasn't quite right for me. Many thanks to Altrec's customer service dept though!

outstanding feel, fit, warmth. I LOVE this jacket, own it in 4 colors and buy it whenever it's on sale. - silky feel - low static, low crinkle - drawstring at hip to stop aircirc - high zippable neck - very stuffable - goof length, good cut I wear this as my top 'suitcoat' layer indoors all winter, dress it up or down. It beats any down sweater competition, and I have tried ALL the other brands!

I ordered this jacket in the surf blue color. It had bright red binding on the inside seams, and you could dark pieces of down through out the jacket. I sent it back! Otherwise, in other colors, it would have been acceptable.

I've never purchased a North Face product before, and I couldn't be more thrilled!! Quality gear that is also fashionable - it doesn't get much better than that!! This jacket is lightweight, yet heavy duty and stunning to look at! I am now a North Face fan!!!

This jacket is very warm and soft and packs to a size of a softball. The material seems very delicate, so I would not use it as a primary, daily jacket. However, it's a perfect light layering option. I'm 5'4" and Small fits right at the hips. The powder blue color is just dreamy, and does not look 'metalic' like it seems in this picture.

This jacket packs down to a small pocket that can be stowed in hip pack. Great to have along skiing to layer under a shell with minimal bulk when the temp drops. The size small fits very comfortably and the sleeves are long enough for 5'9" height. Of the three 800 down-fill jackets I compared (Mtn.Hardware & Patagonia were the others)the North Face had the best features and fit. Now I'm looking at the TNF 800 vest.
