great value
March 07, 2012

this is a great jacket. it can definitely be worn 3 seasons and perhaps 4 (as a rain jacket in the summer.). It is a rain jacket as it is waterproof but also a ski shell with a powder skirt. If you want to use as a shell for skiing you may want to get a size up so you can layer underneath. Jacket has a slimmer fit with nice lines. Very happy with this purchase and price (bonus-i bought on sale) since it is so versatile.

Very Good Quality
July 17, 2012

I live in Stuttgart, Germany so it is very rainy here and this jacket keeps me my top half perfectly dry. It is made of a very good quality. I can even wash it and it still keeps the water proof coating. The only thing that bothers me is how short it is, but other than that it's a great buy. I am very pleased with my purchase.

This is what I was looking for
August 10, 2012

There are some other reliable names of good quality clothing that I tried first. It rains a lot here, and they just did not keep me dry. I decided to try the North face and for a real similar price of what I had paid for other top brands...guess what...I am dry! This jacket is absolutely wonderful. When they say it will keep you dry; they mean it. Don't mess around. This is what you want. It is a bit warm for 50 degree weather, but I wore it this morning at 46 degrees and it was very nice. Fits wonderfully. I am usually a medium, size 8...ordered the medium and it fits perfectly. I have some room to layer underneath when it gets cold out.

May 20, 2011

i purchase this jacket for my raniny day out, it was very comfortable, and very warm too, everything is good on this jacket, i can't fiind any issue on it, the shipping also fast, it came to my house just in time for the wet weather at that moment, the only thing that i can say is about the color , there is no red one available for my size (XS). great jacket. i very happy to have it.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value

LOVE the JACKET!
February 05, 2008

The jacket is warm, able to have a fleece zip in, and I love the length. My only complaint is I couldn't find a plastic loop to attach a ski ticket. Also, the zipper can get stuck. Minor things to put up with for an all around great jacket!!

Perfect jacket
February 03, 2011

Love this jacket- especially with the added classy houndstooth lining that sets it apart from plain black. It's not bulky or heavy and layers well .. lots of pockets and perfect length. lots of compliments already. a bit pricy but grabbed it on sale

Great Overall Coat
February 24, 2011

Great coat overall. Bought to wear layered with denali fleece, as well as, lighter weight fleece. I am usually a small and the jacket alone is perfect as a small; however, with the denali zipped in it was way too small. I returned for a medium and both fleeces seem to fit well when zipped in. Jacket is well built in general. The material is sturdy and not "loud" like some other shells can be. This is a coat I will have for a long time.

I really love this jacket, only downside is that it runs a little small. I have many North face jackets and this one runs small compared to the rest. If you can, I would go up one size.

Nice jacket
November 15, 2011

We like this and bought it to fit over the North Face fleece, which zips in. Everything is good except that it could be a little roomier to accommodate the fleece. Both pieces are size large.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Great value, Cons: a little small

Great jacket! Top quality and very warm. Can't go wrong with North Face. Excellent ski jacket when paired with NF fleece jacket!

Terrific
December 23, 2009

The jacket is nice and waterproof and perfect for layering. It's high quality as well. My experience with Altrec was outstanding. They were very helpful on the phone, the price was in line with other places(perhaps North Face controls that), and the shipping was very fast.

Great jacket
November 16, 2012

Just what I was looking for - a lightweight, completely waterproof rain jacket. Perfect for windy, rainy days. Perfect for weekends and fitted/nice enough to wear for "casual day" at work.

Pros: Build quality, Performance

Awesome item
September 01, 2004

The North Face products are of the best quality available. I buy a lot of NF items and this jacket lives up to its reputation. Apart from being stunning, it's comfortable, lightweight and fits a NF fleece perfectly. Some of the reviews said that this jacket runs small, but I don't find it does. I usually wear an XL in women's clothes, but I ordered a large for this jacket and it fits perfectly. A perfect jacket at an amazing price.

Good quality, bad fit
April 14, 2011

I got this jacket from Altrec for a steal in my opinion. I probably would never have paid full price for this item, but I needed a rain jacket badly (who knew there was so much rain in Boston?!). I was concerned that I would always make a swooshy noise when I moved, but the material is not like regular rain jackets and noise is definitely not a problem. The jacket definitely holds on to your body very securely with snaps, zippers, and velcro, so I'm sure it will be wonderful come the winter months on the mountain. My Khumbu jacket zips right in with no hassle at all, so not only do I have an awesome rain coat, I have an awesome winter coat as well! The only issues I have with this jacket are the zippers and the fit. Unfortunately, the zipper is a pain to get started and it often takes me a few minutes just to zipper it up. How embarrassing! It's also very stiff and makes moving around awkward, because I end up having a weird bulge where the zipper bends. Not flattering. Also, I was advised by many reviewers to size up since it was short. I'm 5'7, 145 lbs, have a fairly long torso and a large chest so I took their advice. Bad move. I'm swimming in the jacket and my Khumbu does not reach all the way up to the collar, since it is a medium. Even when the jacket is zipped in, I still have room for a very bulky sweatshirt. Perhaps if you are looking to use it as a shell rather than a rain jacket, size up, but otherwise trust TNF and get your actual size. Overall, I would recommend this jacket, but definitely size accordingly.

Great purchase
February 01, 2011

I bought this jacket to go with my hooded north face Denali fleece, and together they are so warm that I could stand outside for hours and not feel a thing! It's great! I would definitely recommend this product. My only complaint is that I wish the sleeves were longer. I am 5'11" and weigh 150lbs, so I usually need to buy a large in order for the sleeves to fit me. In this case, the sleeves fit me just right with no extra room. Otherwise it's a great purchase! Thank you altrec!!!

great for all weather
October 13, 2004

this jacket is great for rain, wind, or snow. it keeps you warm when it's cold outside, yet, when the air heats up, the vents cool you down. i definitely recommend this jacket for any snowboarder. goes great with the north face salathe fleece jacket.

Great Jacket
March 08, 2010

Just got this jacket and so far I love it! I found it on sale, which was great! 50% off of what the North Face site had it listed as!!! The shipping was nice and quick as well!

Great rain jacket
April 05, 2011

Love this jacket for cool, rainy days in the spring. It zips in a couple of my fleeces, so when it's really cold, I can have an extra layer. It's definitely waterproof, rain beads right up. The hood is a little floppy, getting in my eyes, not really staying back far enough, but I haven't really had too many opportunities to mess with the cords, so it might be a matter of adjustment. Only downside is that this fabric could double as the world's greatest pet hair magnet. I definitely need to lint roller it once per wear.

Destination42

Good coat against the wind, rain and snow
January 27, 2009

Very warm with the Denali lining and very functional for outdoor activities. Stiff at first but becomes more flexible with wear. My only complaint is the velcro which is an annoyance. Why North Face would use velcro instead of snaps on a $190 jacket diminishes the quality. Snaps are better because they don't catch and snag everything they touch, especially on the wrists.

great all around jacket
March 09, 2006

I bought a jacket for my brother, then I decided that I needed one for myself. Definitely wind proof and water proof. However, you need a fleece underneath to keep the cold out. Looks fantastic for every day wear!

great jacket!
July 13, 2011

i have used this jacket for snowboarding last winter and it stood up well in the snow. I have also used this outside for a couple of times under the rain and the waterproofing works well too. You need to wear a fleece jacket underneath however, for much colder weather conditions. i am 5'1'' and 110 lbs, and xs fits just fine. All in all a great jacket for rain and snow!

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

great jacket
April 14, 2004

This is a cool jacket. I normally would have ordered a large but one of the previous reviews commented on the sizing so I ordered an XL which I'm glad I did as it fits a fleece under it nicely. I wore it skiing right after I got it and it was comfortable and easy to move in.

Perfect for my needs!
March 09, 2010

Ordered it last Thursday and it was delivered on Monday. Great jacket - it has everything that I need, waterproof, warm, and you can zip a liner into it. I bought it in black, and on the inside there is a design that adds a little flare. Overall awesome.

Women's Varius Guide jacket
December 29, 2010

I purchased the jacket as a Christmas present for my wife. I was so impressed that I plan to order one for myself. The quality and fit are excellent. I truly believe that this will be the last utility type jacket that she will ever need. Be aware though that the jacket w/Denali fleece liner may fit on the small side. I originally ordered size Small (S/P) for my wife to go along with her S/P Denali fleece liner. Although the fleece liner fits great by itself, once zipped into the Varius Guide jacket the jacket fit tight and limited movement. I returned the S/P and ordered the Medium, which fits great.

March 24, 2011

This jacket is well-designed. The quality looks really good, and it fits me very well. Haven't tried to wear it in rain yet, but I can tell from the fibric materials, it will be excellent in terms of waterproof. I am very happy with my purchase.

March 15, 2012

This is a great jacket, especially on sale. The fit is a little more tailored looking, not big and baggy. My only complaint is that the jacket could be a little longer. That would make it just about perfect!

Nice color, very bright. The jacket fits well, although the sleeves are a bit longer. The quality is excellent and it is very comfortable to wear in rainy days. I also very happy with the short shipping time.

All over a great jacket for out door activities
May 21, 2009

A great jacket for skiing in harsh weather, really well made and stylish as well. It was too bulky on me so I had to return it, but I am tall and skinny so if you are you might have to try an other model that has a more trim fit.

Overall great jacket!
November 29, 2006

Love this jacket, certainly the quality you expect from North Face. Very warm with fleece zipped in and even without (but perhaps not for very cold weather). I ordered a medium but could have probably used a small.

Great but a little short
March 22, 2011

Overall I love this jacket. I'm 5'8 145lbs and I wish it could be a couple inches longer. Great for a nice day of skiing. On a nice day of the mountain all I needed was a long underwear shirt, fleece and this awesome shell to be totally warm, comfortable and DRY! Only con is that one of the zippers handles on one of the pockets pulled off on the first day. Just threw a safety pin on the zipper and it was good as new. Overall I'm totally stoked on this new buy!!!!

Great Jacket for the price
April 02, 2004

The North Face Varius Jacket is great for all weather and activities. It keeps you super warm with the zip in fleece and you don't get overheated. The bottom is a bit snug on the hips, but you have a double zipper for added adjustment.

Pretty Jacket
February 12, 2011

Love this ski jacket - get lots of compliments on it. I will need to buy a vest or jacket insert to make it a little warmer for the cold months. Only complaint is that the zipper is a little troublesome to get started at times.

Great Jacket for any weather!
January 15, 2010

Perfect jacket coupled with the denali lining, kept the person it was intended for warm and dry in a recent blizzard. Fit is good, not too tight and will allow for more layers underneath.

Awesome!
April 11, 2010

I love this jacket. I was considering several other jackets and I am SO glad I went with this one. I am 5'5" and 130lbs, and I bought a Small. It fits me perfectly, and looks flattering. I also bought a North Face Denali fleece to zip into it, and together they are toasty warm! Its exactly what I had hoped for!

Excellent quality, true fit, love the dreamy seafoam color!
January 01, 2008

Wore the jacket skiing. It was quite comfortable, looked great, worked well with the wooly liner I had purchased previously (Denali Thermal-Summit Series). Love the color, very warm and cozy, feels like a blanket surrounding me. I am a loyal North Face fan!

Warm and Cute
January 05, 2009

My husband bought me this jacket as a Christmas gift before we went to see his family in New England for New Year's. As a southern girl, I'm not used to the snow, ice and freezing cold, but combined with my Denali Fleece, this jacket kept me warm all weekend. No complaints of being cold the whole trip-- We'd definitely buy this jacket again!!!

I gave this to my daughter to compliment her Denali and she is thrilled with the performance of it. Living in South Carolina it has given her nice flexibility and it has kept her dry too!

Fabulous!
January 03, 2005

I have a denali North Face jacket and love how well these two pieces fit together. I wore them skiing and stayed very warm! All the pockets are strategically placed. My only complaint is that the main pockets in the front aren't that big (my ski gloves barely fit). All in all it's a great buy.

GREAT COAT, LITTLE SHORT
February 15, 2010

The coat looks great and fits rather well. My wife is 5'9" says it doesn't seem long enough. Other than that, she loves how warm it keeps her without zipping in her Denali fleece. Great coat for any element.

Love the shell!
March 14, 2008

It is so warm and cozy all by itself. It blocks the wind really great. I love the soft fabric on the interior of the collar - my previous jacket didn't have this so it was something I noticed right away. Pair it with my Pumori fleece and you have an extra cozy match made in heaven! Super snuggly and warm.

AMAZING!
February 17, 2009

The perfect jack for skiing. I just got back from Colorado and I have no complaints in regards to this jacket. It is completely waterproof and the jacket itself left plenty of room for layering underneath. Also, the velcro around the opening of the sleeves allowed for a tight seal, therefore neither cold nor snow could get inside! This jacket is a definite must have!

Great Jacket
January 12, 2011

After buying this jacket I am prepared for rain or snow. The best thing about the jacket is that it is attractive and not overly bulky. The fleece can be zipped in to add warmth in the winter and taken out to be worn as a rain jacket in any season. It is so versatile I just wish I would have bought the fleece with the jacket.

Love this Jacket!
November 07, 2010

Bought this jacket and TNF Inlux Insulated jacket. They both appeared to be very similar, although after recieving them there was no question as to which one I'd keep. The Varius Guide Jacket is great! One benefit of the jacket was the ability to zip in another layer for added warmth, either the Denali or Khumbu Fleece work great...plus the hood is removable!!! Water stands no chance against this jacket...soooo happy I bought it! It fits and looks great too!!!!!!! I'm 5'3" and 115 lbs...the SMALL is fitted with enough room to zip in a fleece layer without feeling stuffed in.

Made a great Christmas gift!
March 17, 2010

Got this jacket for my daughter Katie. She's been wearing it ever since she loves it. Good quality,Good service. Thanks! Santa

Love it!
March 10, 2010

I bought a medium Varius jacket and zipped in a small Pumori fleece. The jacket is big enough to comfortably wear both layers, but it doesn't look bulky at all. After I tried on an XS--very tight through the shoulders and short at my wrists--in a store, the Altrec associate with whom I spoke said that the S would have about an extra inch in length and around and the M about 2". This was pretty helpful advice.

AMAZING JACKET!

March 01, 2004

Just used this jacket for a week skiing and found it to be completely water and windproof. Fit was very good although the large is definitely a good fit for a size 10 (with room underneath for layers). Lots of great pockets with room for everything.

Great Choice
April 05, 2011

This jacket is very comfortable and fits true to size. It is also waterproof great for rainy days. I wore it when there was tremendous down pour, and the jacket kept me dry. It doesn't take long to dry off either, so you won't have to worry about carrying around a soaked jacket.

would buy it all over again
January 03, 2007

I love this jacket b/c it allows me to zip-in the fleece I already owned, giving me an extra warm jacket. I am happy with its performance so far and have had several comments about the beautiful color (captiva pink). I know I made the perfect choice.

too tall for varius guide...
February 28, 2011

I'm 5'9" 140 lbs. I originally started out with the perilune jacket in a small to go with my small denali hoodie (LOVE IT). But I didn't like the color so I ordered the black varius guide. For many reasons I'm going back to the perilune! The varius guide was way too short for my height. It fit perfectly through the waist all by itself but my denali didn't fit inside it! It bunched up when zipped in even though they are the same size. Others have recommended going up a size to fix this problem but I doubt it will solve both the fit and length issues. The zipper also snags often. The material collects lint worse than fleece! The neck is also very long even on the small. I did appreciate the detachable hood and extra pockets which is why I originally switched from the perilune. It also had me sweating in the snow, something I've never experienced. If you are short this is the jacket for you! Just order a size up if you want to layer. For tall girls like me I recommend moving on to a different style that fits a bit longer.

great fit, even better price

This jacket was exactly what I expected. I found that the sizing was true to form. I can't wait for winter to roll around so I can put it to good use.

Great Jacket!
April 28, 2011

This jacket was a great purchase. I bought it late in the winter season so I have not needed to purchase the zip-in fleece yet. I am 5'8" and 120 lbs, however have long arms, so the sleeve fit is a little short with the small size. The jacket tends to bulks up around the waist and the zipper proves to be of some difficulty for every use. Otherwise, this jacket has been great for the spring and I am sure will be used most of the time during the winter months as well.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value

Well Worth the Money
September 26, 2006

This is a great jacket for layering. It creates a thick barrier from the wind and an attached hood is always a great idea. Be sure to order a size larger than normal to accomodate layers underneath.

Good

When I got it, I was a little bit disappointed, because the material and color tone is not the same to what I expected. Also, even if I saw the video, I felt it is shorter than it was shown. It would be better if it has a pocket to put hood in. I can take if off, but no pocket. But after few days I put on, I am pretty satisfied with this. It is comfortable and good enough.

A Classic.

Got one last year for the wife, but had to get another this year for my daughter. There were just too many disputes over who was going to wear it. A little disappointed that they went from a soft fleece lining in places too all nylon, but still a great jacket. Light enough to where in the spring and fall but also beefy enough to get you through the winter. Cut to flatter a women's figure also.

Nice Jacket!

What a great price for this jacket. I received it in a timely manner. This is the first Hyvent material jacket that I've purchased and it seems heavy-duty. I wore it in the rain and it really wicks away moisture so I stayed really dry and warm. The fit wasn't the greatest as I was anticipating the jacket to be longer. It hits right at the lower back and doesn't cover all of my rear but overall it is a nice jacket.

Great jacket, very comfortable. Only minor issue is that this jacket is pretty short.

Great water protection
March 09, 2011

It is really great for water and snow protection. But I felt cold when I wear this jacket during this season. It fits very well. I got xs size. There is zip-in, so I can wear it with the North Face Daniel jacket. I like this jacket very much.

Incredibly comfortable and stylish

The Varius Jacket surpassed my expectations. In addition to loving the color, it is light weight but warm enough for most days. With the zip in vest it is exceptionally versatile.

AWESOME!!!

This shell has it all. Zip-in feature for your favorite fleece, pit zips for a quick cool down and a wind skirt to keep the cold winter wind from sneaking up on you. TNF does it right!!

I'm 5'2", 135lbs and ordered a small. It fits me perfectly. It is fitting and the quality of the jacket is great. I ordered it in retro pink and the color is more red than I expected but overall a great jacket!

Freestyle fit without being bulky.
October 22, 2003

A nice free style fit without being bulky. Slightly heavy but good and warm for the ski hill. Good visibility with the hood on. The lined collar is nice on the chin when it is zipped all the way up.
