The contoured shoulder straps and the back panel are padded, while the large zippered main compartment will let them load up their books, binders and folders. Great backpack! Seems to be very durable. Pics look like it's black and green but it's navy and green. My 2nd grader loves it for a school backpack! Hope to keep it nice long enough to pass along the the next child. Northface backpacks last forever!

My little boy loves the backpack! It's the perfect size for a kindergartner, not too big, not too small, has a couple of pockets inside for carrying little things (crayons, pencils, etc...). I recommend it 100%.

it's a great little backpack. My 5 year old loves it. It's perfect for kindergarten. But it's a little bit too small for my 7 year old in 2nd grade. Great design and beautiful colors.

Great Kindergarten Backpack

This was the 2nd backpack we purchased for our daughter to start kindergarten. The first was one she picked out online from the cute designs on it, but it was too large, stiff, uncomfortable, and poorly constructed. I was concerned that the Squash Recon might be too small for the folders and books and other things she brings to and from school, but infact it is very spacious inside. The frame is just the right size for her 5 year old body, the straps are padded, not too wide, and the sternem strap is a big hit! Not to mention the colors are great, bright and cute. No one else in her school has the same backpack, as most have licensed characters or other more trendy packs. The quality is clear, we are happy that we chose a "real" backpack for her first school backpack. We have always loved Northface for ourselves and now for the kids. Would recommend and purchase again!
