Use besides camping
February 17, 2011
I use this thermarest for regular sleeping. i travel & move a good amount, so hauling around a proper bed isn't really an option. The large is a good size, but seems like it would be pretty bulky for actual backpacking camping. Car camping, it would be great. And of course, for sleeping on the floor in your house, it works great too. Also, Altrec was super fast in getting this item shipped to me. I live in Oregon, so I was glad to buy it from a company here in the state. I'm completely satisfied with their service and the option to return it w/no hassles.
Pros: Great design, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of useWrite a review for the Thermarest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad here.

Get a LARGE base camp!

I (female, 5'5" tall) have had a LARGE base camp for 6-7 yrs and love it. I just purchased one for my husband who's 5'10" and has used an old 3/4 pad that barely hold air. I accidentally ordered the Regular Base Camp first, and it is much narrower (see size dimensions link). For the extra $, the LARGE is definitely worth it. It is wide enough to roll from side to side without adjusting too much while in a sleeping bag. Altrec is the best, super friendly service on the exchange, even offering to upgrade to 2-day air for no charge.

After getting a little older in life, my old 3 segment foam/air pad just wasn't comfortable any more. I didn't sleep well and woke up sore. So, after researching new sleeping pads, I chose this one...the XL size. All I can say is that I slept like a queen. The 30 inch wide pad was wonderful and I never felt like I was falling off the side of the pad. The extra length was great as well. At 5'5" I had plenty of room for me and my pillow. The rest of my family wants one of their own now! Definitely a little pricey but it was worth it!
