Decent boot
March 14, 2011

I was looking for a light hiker, for when I am not carrying a backpack, and this boot looked like exactly what I needed. When they arrived in the mail I thought they were extremely comfortable. I ordered the same size as my sneakers, and they fit well with light wool hiking socks. They are comfortable for walking on moderate trails with little or no break-in period. They are 100% waterproof up to the top of the Gore-Tex liner in my testing (standing in a creek for about five minutes). No blisters, although I have not hiked more than six miles at a time in them yet. They are definitely light hikers, and I can feel rocks on the trail while hiking. I would not recommend hiking with these if you have a backpack on. That said, I will most likely always choose these for my day hiking excursions. The reason I gave them four stars instead of five is because the Gore-Tex liner is not fastened to the boot very well at the toes, and it comes down (much like a really thick, loose-fitting sock) while I am walking. My other Gore-Tex boots do not do this and it is more comfortable. Other than this, the fit is great and I will not be returning these for that drawback. I can't speak to the durability of these boots yet as I have only had them a month, but I have had Timberlands in the past and they have been extremely durable, so I expect the same from these. I would purchase these again if I needed another pair of light hikers, and I will recommend them to friends. As always, the service from Altrec was outstanding!

Pros: comfortable, no break-in period, lightweight, great traction

Men's hiking boot--excellent!
June 30, 2010

The boot fit as advertised. It is light weight yet very durable and comfortable. I will buy another pair when these wear out. I especially liked the tread pattern. It should provide excellent traction on bare rock and hard trail surfaces.

One of the best shoes I ever owned.
December 22, 2013

Took these boots on two hikes and they are awesome!! Great traction and the have a solid sole so not too much give at all when stepping on large protruding roots on fallen tree trunks. I got the wide version and it's a great amount of toe room. So if you think you have wide feet, get the wide. Also, remember to get proper socks with any boots. I wear regular socks and then hiking socks over those for a comfy hike.

March 03, 2010

I'm 21 and 200 pounds and subject my footwear to all kinds of Hell. These have been my only non-dress shoes for about a year and a half. I'm on my second pair of Dr. Scholl's inserts and they're no longer waterproof (WPness lasted me about a year of stupid-heavy use), but I'm still wearing them. Whoever said they're warm is incorrect. They breathe easily and are not good for cold weather. They afford me more traction than any other pair of footwear I've ever owned. So, I'm here to buy another pair.

Great Boot Great Price
February 25, 2010

Have them for a few weeks now and I think they are comfortable. My feet feel cool in them; if were to be in 20 degree weather I'd would be wearing some thick socks. I wear a 9.5 4E shoe , was looking for a good pair of hiking boots that may have that width, but for the price... went with the 9.5W Tims and they fit me well. I like Timberland and always have, durability is part of the Timberland name.

Best Hiking Boots
December 15, 2010

Great boots...best hiking boots I've ever had. Quite comfortable and the Gortex really makes them waterproof. The size seems a little large at first but allows for thick socks. The amazing thing is how lightweight the Chochoruas are yet heavy duty for most day hiking sojourns. I will be buying another pair! The only down side is the boot laces shredded after only a few wearings. So, be prepared to buy some heavy duty laces.

Pros: Great design, Build quality

After comparing boots and prices across the internet, Altrec was the cheapest for the quality boot that I wanted to purchase. Purchase was easy, and the product was shipped on time. The boot was exactly what I had hoped it would be. Most comfortable pair of hiking boots I have owned.

February 09, 2011

I initially bought Flume and it was 1/2 size too big because I purposely ordered 1/2 size bigger thinking that it will fit with thick hiking socks. Then I returned flume and ordered Chochorua in my true size because flume in my size was back order. Arrived today and tried it on. I like it; fit, style, great workmanship and very comfortable. Just need to test it out in rain and taking it to ABC in Nepal in April.

Shoe for Winter
January 13, 2011

Needed a shoe for wear in winter weather. The shoe is comfortable and has a gore tex liner to keep your feet dry. The liner only goes half way up the tongue, so is not good for deep water. It is a light shoe and only time will tell if it wears well, but should not weight down you feet. The sole gets good traction in the snow. I am satisfied with the product. It is my second pair of Timberland shoes.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Excellent fit and comfort
February 18, 2010

The fit was perfect out of the box. I have a wide foot which is difficult to find and fit. But the 10.5 W fit the bill. The boots have good support and are comfortable enough that I find I will wear these instead of my normal tennis shoes. I can't wait to try them on a trail. Shipping was easy and as promised.

Outstanding Hiking Boot
November 30, 2009

As a hiking enthusiast of nearly 40 years' standing, I am pleased to report that these Timberland boots are among the best that I have ever worn. I can also assure the reader that when these wear out, I will quickly replace them. However, because of their superb construction, I fully expect that these boots will last for years to come.

Very Resistant Boots
January 23, 2010

I am very happy for buying these shoes as they are very comfortable and seems to be extremely resistant. I just worn it twice, so I cannot be totally sure of its durability but it's definitely cozy and looks perfect.

Great boots, very comfortable.
January 28, 2010

I love these boots and wear them at least 3 times a week. They're rugged and comfortable. The last pair I owned went everywhere, from climbing around inside of air planes in Florida to hiking in the mountains in Utah. I will give them a -1 for the cheap strings that come on the boots. The original strings on the last pair lasted less than 9 months. After 1 week of wear, these are already showing signs of fraying. It is a very cheap repair, but I wish they'd get it right from the factory.

March 04, 2010

Got my first pair in December. The more I wear them, the better I like them. Trudging through snow, slush, and puddles since then has been fun with these dandy treads. Dry, warm, comfortable and nice enough to wear to my office job too. I loved them so much I ordered a second pair to extend the enjoyment well into my 50s!

Great boots - metal not as sturdy
January 21, 2010

I really like the boots, they are ok in comfort, very warm and look great. However the metal pin with "gore-tex" on it fell off on the second day of use. I can also see how the lace rings can damage the lace after much tying (I can see some initial wear after 1 week of use).

good boots, better price
March 05, 2010

these are good boots for the price. they are comfortable and lightweight. i thought they'd be a tad warmer, there isn't much insulation in the foot bed area, only around the ankles. the entire boot (brown/green) is a bit darker than it appears in the photos. fits true to size, i wear a 9 new balance sneaker and a 9 wide fits my foot perfectly. good traction on outdoor surfaces as well. if u plan on wearing these as winter boots, order size up so you can wear good thick socks.

Great Boots
December 15, 2009

These boots are great! It has rained all week and my feet are BONE dry! Lighter weight than I expected and great support. They look so good that I am wearing them to work. I had an old pair of Timberland's that lasted about 5 years - I expect that these will too!

very comfortable!
November 25, 2009

I live in North Carolina. I've been wearing them every day of the North Carolina fall/winter because they are so comfortable and waterproof and look classy. They are good on warm days as well. Definitely seems to be a great shoe for high-activity in mild climates.

Very comfortable, warm and an outstanding price.
February 01, 2010

I have had these boots 1 week and they are great. wore them in the rain and the snow, no wetness inside whatsoever. Also, the gore-tex gives some insulation and allows your feet to breath.

Great Boots
April 06, 2011

I bought these boots for my husband. He wears them to work everyday and absolutely loves them. From the first day that he put them on they have been comfortable, no break in time. And since the spring weather can be so variable, they keep his feet dry and warm. They also come in wide sizes which fit his foot perfectly. They look great and are reasonably priced. He is very hard on all shoes and these have outlasted many of his more expensive brands. These are the second pair that we have ordered and will continue to purchase these boots in the future.

Great Shoes and great service!
April 19, 2011

This is my second pair of the Timberland Chochorua hiking boots. Wasn't sure I was going to find them or if they still made them, but luckily they do and I ordered my second pair from Altrec. I have never had a more comfortable pair of shoes in my life. These guys need minimal break in time. With my first pair purchased at a random boot shop in Montana 3 years ago I took them out of the box broke them in for one day and did a 50 mile backpacking trip in Glacier National park. Had no problems what so ever and fell in love with these boots. They kept my feet comfortable and dry. I still wear my old ones from time to time. I have also done desert hiking in these boots. They are well insulated but breath well enough to do dry hot hiking. The only negative comment would be that the tip of the soul started to seperate from the toe of the boot about a year into them. Just get some shoe glue and fill it up. Good all around boot for any type of hiking. You will not be disappointed! Also, altrec had the best price and very fast pick and ship time :)

Pros: comfortable, affordable, versitile hiking, kept feet dry, kept feet ventialted, long lasting, cosmetically apealing, Cons: tip of soul at toe slightly seperated

Really nice medium duty boot
March 24, 2010

I bought a pair of Chochorua hiking boots and a pair of the Zamberlain Baffin boots. I find that the lightweight Chochoruas work best when the load and terrain are average. The Baffins are best for heavy loads because of the superior stability.

Very comfortable shoes & great service

Best hiking boots I've owned
January 14, 2010

I bought the Chochorua boots after extensively researching similar choices on the web. Cost was a consideration in my attempt to secure the best product for the money I wanted to spend--extremely pleased with my choice. Am in the process of building up my hiking miles for an eight-day backpackin trip in May. Have found the boots are, indeed, waterproof, fairly light and true to size, important for me because of a long-time problem with one toe on my right foot. Turns out, too, the price was the best available after a careful check of the web. Thoroughly delighted with my decision.

comfortable and lightweight
April 18, 2011

These boots fit true to size and fit very comfortably. I wear a 9.5 sneaker shoe and the 9.5m boots fit perfect. They are lightweight without feeling cheap. The gore-tex works excellent in repelling water. As for style they look good. No complaints. I gave 4 stars because I have only been on one hike with them and I have not had time to judge their durability. Looking forward to putting them to the test this summer.

GREAT PRODUCT GOOD VALUE GOOD SERVICE

THE BOOT IS GREAT URBAN WALKER, VERY WARM AND DURABLE. THE BOOT DOES A GREAT JOB OF WICKING UP SWEAT. PRICE IS VERY AGRESSIVE.

Good boots overall
April 12, 2010

Have worn these hiking a few times and like them a lot. The only thing I don't like is that if I tighten the strings tightly to the top, it will "eat" into my ankle after about a half hour of hiking. The top of the boot could thus use some sort of stiffener so that the strings don't eat into your ankle.

Good for sidewalks, not sides of mountains
March 20, 2011

These are handsome boots. The fit is excellent (mine are size 10 Wide) with ample room in the toe box. The leather is soft and needs no break-in period. Beneath the foot is a cushiony soft construction that is resilient and kind to the foot. However, there is very little arch support. The soft construction provides almost no ankle support, which is critical for rough terrain and heavy pack loads. I am a male, 5 foot 11 inches tall, 190 pounds, with flat feet. It is not unusual for me to carry 50 pound packs. The soft leather was scuffed and frayed after a 2 mile walk on level terrain. I'm sure these boots are waterproof but I have no intention of testing them on a stormy day in the hills. These are urban boots, designed for walking on sidewalks and looking good. Although they might be used for dayhikes, I would be afraid to use them for such. If you are a serious hiker or backpacker who needs support and values your feet (the most important part of your gear!), you may want to look elsewhere for boots.

Pros: soft comfortable, Cons: no stiffness support

Great Boot
January 05, 2012

Lightweight, comfortable, good traction, and waterproof. Would definitely recommend. These boots are comfortable and true to size. The hooks at the top make it a quick on and off.

Nice boot and reliable mail order business
February 03, 2010

The local Timberland company store was out of stock in almost everything in my size, plus the salespeople were ridiculous: ``We don't have your size 9, but we have a size 10''...as if being close helped. I was hesitant to buy boots online without trying them on, but after I destroyed my junky HiTec boots in 6 months on Manhattan concrete, I searched extensively for the best boot at the best price. I tried the usual suspects, like Zappos. Finding Gore-Tex boots for the same price as generic waterproof boots was the clincher. Altrec's shipping was fast and customer service responsive when my order was sent without a street address (thanks PayPal). Meanwhile, the shoes fit great and the traction is fine on snow. My toes feel a bit coolish in subfreezing temps (let better socks do the warming), but the trade-off is that the good ventilation will be invaluable in hot weather.

Very Comfortable Boot
November 10, 2009

I wear this boot for work and play. Very comfortable from day 1. I have purchased and worn out about 6 pair of this boot and will be buying more. I hiked 60 miles at Philmont Scout Ranch in this boot and use it as my primary hunting boot at the lease as well as casual wear. I wear them so much my son makes fun of me and I don't care!

Good Boot
April 24, 2011

I needed a GoreTex boot for the mild DC area winters and for wet weather hikes and this is perfect for my needs. Did not take a lot of breaking in time. Walked around the house for a couple of weeks to get my ankles used to a high shoe and went out for a 4+ mile hike along and above the Potomac this weekend. Totally comfortable. No blisters. Kept my feet warm and dry.

This is my second pair of Timberland Chochorua Boots. The first pair is finally showing some wear on the treads after 2 years of hard use, and waterproofing is still holding up. Took them on a grueling 10 day fishing trip to Alaska and never got cold or wet. Highly recommend them and price is right at Altrec.

Wearing Timberland's since 1993
March 02, 2010

I've been wearing Timberland's since the early 90's and have always been extremely satisfied with them over the years. They've always provided comfort and durability with every pair. As a landscaper, this is a necessity with your boots. I recieved a pair of these for a couple of months ago for Christmas and have been rather disgruntled about them. Although they provide comfortable support and seem durable, they have leaked and allow moisture to get in since day 1. They are also not near as warm as previous Gore-Tex boots they've offered from the past. This pair has been rather a "let down".

November 27, 2011

I had a previous iteration of this boot and wore it all around the world. This is a great, comfortable boot. Only drawback is the same as others have noted, the lack of tie in of the tongue all the way to the top. Definitely not a deal breaker though. Definitely buy it.

Pros: comfortable, durable, supportive, Cons: tongue not fully connected

Comfortable
December 16, 2009

I previously wore Hi-Tec (police style) boots. These boots have a much better fit and finish. The support along the sole is much better for hiking than the Hi-Tec's.

I have worn this pair of boots on various day hikes near my home in Arizona. They have preformed very well in the harsh and often rocky desert, as well as on pine needle and creek riddled trails of nearby mountains. impressive performance
December 05, 2010

These are great like hiking boots. I've only put about 20 miles on them, but I'm very pleased with them so far. I was skeptical that these were true "waterproof" boots, especially since there is a soft section on the sides of the boots (which allows great venting btw), but i gave them a thorough test and i am very impressed at their performance. I dipped my feet in a small stream (3" - 4" deep) for a 20 count and there was no water penetration. I was so impressed that I gave one foot a good quick dunk (6" - 8") and still no seepage. These have enough waterproof capability that I'll ever need. They look great also, I've worn them with jeans and they don't look to clunky. The only drawback I've found is after an 8-10 mile hike there was a little foot pain, so I'm going to replace the insoles.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

February 17, 2010

These boot fit great! Feels like they are already broken in right out of the box. Leather develops a nice weathered look. I normally wear size 10.5 but an 11 in this boot fits perfect. Saved a bunch compared to my local store. Was so happy with them that I bought the same boots in gray.

January 15, 2011

just opened my new shoes, and since I bought online for the first time, I was slightly nervous. Well, they fit great. I take an 11 sneaker, so I ordered an 11. Very happy with purchase.

February 13, 2012

After several other people told how good these boots were I had to try for myself. They offer excellent support but are not as heavy as others I have worn. I can wear these to the office and then come home and go for a short hike. These boots are often worn for 12 to 14 hours at a time and they are very comfortable. I don't know about how waterproof they are as I have kept them dry so far. Having wide feet makes it difficult for me to find shoes that fit. I ordered a wide and they fit just right. These boots are excellent and it was a breeze doing bussiness with Altrec. Thanks

Fabulous boots! Fast shipping.

These are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. Am on my feet all day at work and these provide the best support. It is like slipping my foot into a glove. This is actually a second pair I purchased because I was afraid of wearing out my first pair, but that hasn't happened yet! The first pair just keeps going and going and going....

Excellent so far

I require wide sizes in boots and shoes and rarely find anything that is comfortable right out of the box, but these boots "broke in" in less than a day and have been perfect ever since. We also got a record snowfall a few days after I received them and they have performed admirably while shoveling and slogging around for two weeks in 18-24" of snow, slush and ice. My feet have stayed warm and my socks haven't even been damp. Considering the 40% I saved compared to the manufacturer's website, I coudn't be happier.

These boots are awesome!

After reading many reviews my expectations were pretty high. But I was still surprised with the incredible comfort of these quality built boots. I am a large size -14R so this is no easy feat(no pun intended). The value is spectacular and the service exceptional.
