Super shoes, super companies

A hiking friend read about these shoes winning the Backpacker Editor's Choice for 2011 knowing I have had severe knee problems and wondering if the unique shoe design might help. After reading the info on their site I searched for a retailer. Altrec was the winner with good price and selection. I ordered the women's in my size and the shoes were a pretty tight fit. Since Altrec has such an easy no nonsense return policy I ordered a pair in a corresponding men's size. They were perfect, much roomier and I liked the color better. They've been on my feet ever since. I'll list the sizing issue as a con only to alert wide footed women of the other options. I was so happy I ordered a second pair, the gortex version, and wanted a third pair as backup...but it was already out of stock on this site. I wrote to Treksta and they had glowing things to say about Altrec and suggested I try a special order. Altrec emailed me right away, super nice customer service and a personal recommendation for the Trekstas cinched the deal. All three pairs are here in my studio and I'm a huge fan of Altrec and Treksta as a result. And my knees feel great !Pros: light as a feather

Just received these shoes today and wore them around the house all day. They seem to be a great fit in every spot but around the fourth and fifth toes on both feet. They are quite snug around those toes. I had carefully measured my feet before purchasing these and I have been told by shoe store personnel that I have an average foot so I bought a Women's size 9. I called Treksta and the gal I talked to recommended a women's 9.5 or Men's 8. I guess I'll order both and return the two pairs that don't fit, once I completely figure that out. I weigh about 125 pounds. At least Altrec seems to make it easy to return items, especially if you're a local. The lacing system makes it easy to get a custom, no pressure point fit when tying the shoe.Pros: great fit except around fourth and fifth toes, Cons: too snug around fourth and fifth toes
