Some people think that the widest powder skis are the best for floatation. In theory, they're correct--but this simple formula gets complicated the first time they try to nudge their way into a turn. That's why Volkl's easy-turning, high floatation Katana skis are one of the most popular designs this season. Volkl transformed their snowboard-oriented Powder Channel into Katana-friendly proportions, so you get the float without the camber for exceptionally easy turns in deep snow. This season Volkl tweaked their Power construction for a little more rigidity when you hit patches of hardpack. This gives you slightly better power transmission when you need to make turns in tight spots. Like other skis in the Volkl freeride series, the Katana ski has the same tip-to-tail Sensorwood core and wood sidewalls for excellent flex. Unlike some ski manufacturers who contract core work to third party companies, Volkl produces their own wood core to optimize quality and consistency in design with CNC precision. Volkl balanced this agile core profile with their slightly stiffer Power Construction design to keep you completely in control wherever you need to go. Keep in mind that this version of the Katana doesn't include bindings. If you're looking for ideas, Volkl pairs their skis with Marker bindings.
