While other ski shops go as far as to label the Volkl Kiku as a "woman's Gotama" this sort of generalization doesn't do the ski justice. The Kiku is a lightweight twin-tip that's ideal for women who prefer ripping powder in the backcountry, but it's female-specific to the core--an agile balance of Sensorwood made from vertically laminated poplar and beech wood and integrated with strips of balsa. This gives the Kiku a dramatically lighter weight than the Gotama (at least 20% depending on which length you choose). The Kiku also has a lower and shorter tip profile than the Gotama, which slightly reduces the overall swing weight and makes the Kiku easier to turn (both on and above the snow). As with other manufacturer's female-specific skis, Volkl moved the bindings on the Kiku closer to the ski tip than other unisex designs, so the effortless turn initiation feels almost instinctive. If you're looking for a powder-ready twin that turns easily in untracked and broken crud, the Volkl Kiku takes you there with better performance than all unisex powder planks.
